Quote

Action-adventure game God of War has won the sought-after Best Game prize at the 15th annual Bafta Games Awards.

The game is rooted in ancient mythology and stars Kratos, the former Greek god of war, and his son Atreus.

Fortnite, released in 2017, was named best evolving game.

Despite receiving six nominations, UK-made western adventure Red Dead Redemption 2 walked away empty-handed at the glitzy ceremony in central London.

The first God of War game was released in 2005. This eighth instalment in the series, developed by Santa Monica Studio, sees its iconic lead character Kratos - son of Zeus - as a struggling single parent.

Cory Barlog, director of God of War, told the BBC winning the awards was "amazing, overwhelming, and scary".

He said the win showed that story-led games could be as "relevant" as the presently popular Battle Royale style titles.

Nintendo's Labo won two awards, one for best family game and the other for innovation.

It is the cardboard toolkit that lets players explore the interactivity of the firm's Switch console, for example by creating a piano.

Very happy to see A Way Out get the multiplayer award. Instantly better than the Golden Joysticks!

Happy for Yoku's Island Express too

What about Anthem?

You made a joke but actually I think it’s release was too soon to be nominated for anything this time. Maybe they’ll turn it around to win evolving game next year 😬

@Nag You can’t be the God of Boats unless you actually spend all your time in a boat, that’s just obvious

RDR 2 should have won narrative IMO. Very happy it didn’t win the overall award though!

Think I prefer GoW narrative to be honest, RDR2 boils down to "I have a plan Arthur!"... as much as I wanted to like the game it's probably the second most boring game I've played, the first being Ass Creed 3.

I didn’t get on with GoW at all. It was ok but I wasn’t grabbed by it. Seemed like a bunch of set pieces you had no say over before having to mash buttons.

I did only only play a couple of hours though.

Seriously I'm not having a go here but can you really pass judgment on a 15 hour experience after only playing for a couple of hours?... from what I recall the game changes dramatically after the prologue.

I know and agree. I should have said I don’t own a PS4 and had fleeting access to playing it. I think if I sat down and played it I’d get into its cinematics.

Maybe it was more than 2 hours.. There was a troll.. 😅
