disappointed that it's me that has to post about this

Any time you transition to a new platform, there is the opportunity to look at things with a new perspective. For us at 343 Industries, the launch of the Xbox One was an opportunity to think about what stories we wanted to tell, how to tell them, and how best to push the “Halo” franchise to showcase the platform. And, most importantly, combining our passion for “Halo” with the vocal and informative input from our fans.

“Halo” isn’t simply a perennial game franchise, it’s a part of the Xbox platform itself. In terms of innovation and ideation, it’s sometimes important to people who might not even play “Halo.” And of course it’s a passion and an essential experience for two generations of gamers. So we asked ourselves, how do we begin and where do we go with “Halo” on Xbox One?

In the past, “Halo” games have pushed the Xbox forward, showcasing the console and its ecosystem in entertaining and innovative ways. Making a “Halo” game that runs at 60 frames per second, on dedicated servers, with the scope, features and scale we’ve been dreaming of for more than a decade, is non-trivial. It’s a task that we, at 343 Industries, are taking very seriously to ensure we deliver the “Halo” game that fans deserve, and a game that is built from the ground up for Xbox One.

I’m happy to reveal that “Halo 5: Guardians,” the next installment in the legendary saga of the Master Chief, will launch on Xbox One in fall of 2015. In the tradition of every “Halo” game since its debut in 2001, it is a massive and exciting project.

“Halo 5: Guardians” is a bigger effort than “Halo 4.” That applies to the content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what’s now a brand new and more powerful engine. Certainly there are some core elements carried over from prior games, but we’ve invested a huge effort in retooling our tech to take full advantage of the Xbox One’s hardware and ecosystem to create worlds and experiences worthy of next-gen.

It’s a game that will hopefully demonstrate the talent, learnings and abilities of the 343 Industries team. A game that will incorporate the things we learned from “Halo 4” about technology, aesthetics, performance and scale – and perhaps more importantly, understanding and embracing a community of gamers who love what lies at the heart of this game, and the limitless potential of the “Halo” universe.

And 2015 won’t simply be the year of “Halo 5: Guardians,” it will also be a year that offers us a unique opportunity. The opportunity to invite old friends and new audiences into that universe through the “Halo” television series, launched as a unique collaboration with Steven Spielberg and some of the finest creative minds in the business. A series that will stand alone, as well as complement and enrich the game experience. We’ll have more to share on the “Halo” television series as we near its projected fall 2015 release.

Your Journey Begins in 2014

Many fans noted that I was very deliberate with my phrasing on stage at E3 last year. I spoke about a “journey,” rather than a destination – and that journey definitely begins in 2014 with a giant leap, rather than one small step. We’ll give you much more information about our plans for this year at the Xbox E3 2014 Media Briefing on June 9, and we’re confident that “Halo” fans will be pretty excited about the special plans we have in store.

So until E3, I’d like to express my gratitude to our massive and varied Halo community, whose energy, enthusiasm, criticism and kindness are the driving force behind what we do and what we hope to achieve in “Halo 5: Guardians.”

“Halo” isn’t simply a perennial game franchise.

and yet the flogging of the dying horse continues...

does this mean we can look forward to even more tenuously shoehorned in vehicle sections?

and perhaps more importantly, understanding and embracing a community of gamers who love what lies at the heart of this game, and the limitless potential of the “Halo” universe.

you mean you're going to make it even more like Call of duty?

disappointed that it's me that has to post about this

I was just on my way to post it up as Appy Gamer just pushed the news to my phone. It is kind of amusing that you posted up this news. :P

Anyways, If Microsoft keeps showing off it's games before E3 their conference will be pretty boring, unless the have bigger games then Halo and Sunset Overdrive hiding in the wings. I'm assuming by this pattern Quantum Break will be shown off next Friday??

Looking at the logo I get a Metroid Prime 2 & 3 vibe with Master Chief (Samus) in his bulky armor and orange visor on the bottom and a sleek armored Master Chief ( Dark Samus) up top with a blue visor on.

So with this announcement Xbox One has two check in the "pro" column on my pro's and con's list.

I have no idea what happened in Halo 4 but I've already seen a few posts saying that blue visored figure is Cortana.... yeah, means nothing to me either.

right, well, end of the previous halo, Masterchief wasn't even in it, so we spin back to Halo 3.

Right at the end, after Masterchief saved everything, he popped himself into a stasis pod, right after dropping the badass line "wake me when you need me"

so he floats through space, and courtana develops hips, a larger bottom and a shiny new nudy space shape, sadly she also has developed a case of the mentals, because she's only supposed to be on for 10 years, and it been like 12 or something. no idea why she can't spool down into hibernate mode or something.

anyways, after all the bad dudes got killed, there's no one left to muck things up, so we're all good.

but wait! dearth maul ultimate baddy space yeti is here and he's messing up everyone's junk, so it's time to wake up the chief, cue 6 hours of fighting with courtana going mental and have arguments with herself (you can tell when she's cross because she goes red instead of blue), materchief is all like .. hmmm... can't see of having a corrupted AI could possibly go wrong..

after your 6 hours of fighting, you finally catch up to dearth maul ultimate baddy space yeti where you have an epic showdown, and a tense battle where literally the outcome of the battle with decide if the universe will be safe again, up against insurmountable odds, the chief persists and battle on to win throw one grenade and he falls into the sarlacc pit a hole.

courtana is fine, materchief is fine, universe is probably alright too.

masterchief plots a course for home?

cut to halo 5 teaser trailer, materchief is now in the film dune, he is more badass, because he has a cape and seems to be carrying courtanta's little magic wizzer-card around his neck, oh looks, he's fighting a beastie in the sand <_<

cut to halo 5 poster, coutanta is now a robot lady

I can think of worse ways to spend Christmas...

Microsoft's planned Halo 5: Guardians beta will begin December 27 and run for three weeks, ending on January 17, 343 Industries Studio Head Bonnie Ross tells Joystiq.

Beta access will be available via 343's upcoming Halo: The Master Chief Collection, launching on November 11 for the Xbox One. The collection – revealed during Microsoft's E3 media briefing yesterday – includes each game in the Halo series which features Master Chief as its protagonist: Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition, a new anniversary update of Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4.

The Master Chief Collection is up for pre-order at ShopTo for £48.85... that's bloody good value for money.

It's a full priced $59USD/$69CAD here

$59 is about £35, so you're not doing too bad there (although you have to add sales tax onto that, right?)

The sales tax will be about 5 bucks on top of the price.

They're giving you a hell of a lot of game for your money even for a full retail price point. I think the last time we got that much game in one package was The Orange Box.

Although I don't enjoy Halo very much (outside of 4 player co-op), I admire how much they pack into them. The amount of customisation available in Halo 3 multiplayer was mindblowing.

Theres a lot of value in that collection, for sure.

A lot of them will come naturally just by playing from what I can see.

On a side note, in that link Nag posted where the guy shows you the rally style thing where you can race with points. It took me fucking ages to do that level on solo Legendary. I've fond memories of shouting at that part of the game for being a unfair shitbag.

EDIT: Some might not come at all upon closer inspection. Still fun to try though, these look like well designed achievements, rewarding you for playing games within the game.

How Pedestrian
Halo CE: Complete Halo without entering a vehicle.

That sounds fun. Doing the last section where you normally use the warthog, except this time you're have to chase after the escape vehicle like a complete lunatic.
