mfnick Posted January 20 Posted January 20 It’s a Switch with PS4/PS4 Pro power which is exactly what I’ve wanted from them for years so I’ll be getting one.

Maryokutai Posted January 21 Posted January 21 The main thing that interests me, a bit like mfnick, is just seeing how much their games will improve on a technical level. We've talked a lot about diminishing returns on Playstation and Xbox hardware, but this is the first genuine leap for Nintendo hardware in over a decade. And on the plus side they're not even going to break the bank because at the end of the day they're still an entire generation behind despite all that. The short MK9 teaser might be a bit disappointing in that sense, but it's also just a short, not-fullscreen clip and outside of Super Mario Kart and MK8 the series was never really know for its visual prowess anyway. 1
mmmark Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Everything is an Xbox Quote Microsoft’s gaming CEO has praised Nintendo Switch 2, and said it plans to support the upcoming platform with ports of Xbox games. Nintendo finally announced the new Switch earlier this month, and although no games have been officially announced for the platform, Xbox’s teams are said to be prepping multiple releases, including Diablo 4, Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Microsoft Flight Simulator. Microsoft’s newly-acquired Activision has also committed to releasing Call of Duty games on Switch 2, via its agreement with the FTC. Speaking in a new interview with Gamertag Radiopublished on Friday, Spencer confirmed Xbox would be supporting the platform, and said he’d exchanged messages with Nintendo’s president following Switch 2’s reveal. “I was exchanging emails with Furukawa-san, the CEO of Nintendo. I gave him a big congrats and said my old eyes appreciate the larger screen,” he said.
Maf Posted March 30 Posted March 30 I was thinking about this today and seemingly it’s going to be a very predictable console. As it’s Nintendo the games will be generally predictable in terms of titles, but as the Switch 2 is just a (presumably) better version of the last Switch, even the experience will be predictable as well. Without the console having a gimmick to force the games to try something new, it really will be up to the software to do the hard sell purely on their design. Sure some of them will have motion enabled controls and such, but these games are really going to have to be inventive to catch the eye, I think Thankfully Nintendo has been on kind of a hot streak with this last gen. Some games got complete reinventions like Zelda or Mario and some games just got really good spins like Kirby 3D and Metroid Dread. But the changes in their sequels historically not that radical and with a very samey system I hope that doesn’t reflect the ambition with the games as well Sort of prompted by the Hot Topic question today, I wonder what the game will be to make people want the system Mario Kart will be big for mainstream and casuals but what are they going to do with their games to get more core audiences excited. I’m really hoping the Switch 2 doesn’t launch with a BotW HD. I think that will be extremely unfortunate I also don’t think 4K and achievements will be particularly exciting upgrades, either (on some level I hope it doesn’t have achievements at all) I dunno. Just some random thought and I guess we’ll find out a in a few days. But with the Switch 2 being extremely similar to the original, I wonder how that will impact on the games as well and what will be the big draw

But that’s basically the same as OG Switch surely? The Switches gimmick was only that it could play the same games handheld. That wasn’t something that led to any gameplay innovations. It was just a Wii U without being tethered to the box under the TV.
one-armed dwarf Posted March 30 Author Posted March 30 Wonder if it will even run at 4k, I guess it will have DLSS so it might be that slightly smudgy looking 4k that aggressive DLSS gives you. I don't know I'm the target audience anyway, like the main reason I'm interested is in seeing a technical improvement on Bayonetta 3. Metroid 4 looks boring to me and I never cared about Mario.
DANGERMAN Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Hopefully the reveal makes it look interesting, because I do get what people are saying. I don't really play my Switch, and I'm not sure about Nintendo being on a hot streak, at least in terms of stuff I want to play over the 8 years or whatever, but that's personal preference Still, hopefully we'll know and be excited in a couple of days
Pikman Posted April 1 Posted April 1 I'm going all in. Took the day off tomorrow so I can't get booked at the same time 😂 I'll also take the chance to do useful things, like go rowing and paint the dining room ceiling.
Maryokutai Posted April 1 Posted April 1 That's cool, the antithesis to the usual 'you just get a cinematic trailer upon announcement'. We'll likely get a precise lineup/schedule for these after the presentation tomorrow. –– Bit unrelated to the shows, but I also just read that according to one insider, Nintendo flat out refused to provide Embracer with dev kits because they deem them 'too chaotic' and are afraid that those kits would just float around wherever in case yet another studio gets closed: https://www.resetera.com/threads/john-linneman-digital-foundry-many-many-many-many-developers-still-dont-have-switch-2-dev-kits.1149939/ (comments n° 6 and 55) That's arguably a very Nintendo way of seeing things but damn, shots fired.
DANGERMAN Posted April 1 Posted April 1 I know a ton of stuff got leaked, basically everything about the console. But I'm surprised that nothing about tomorrow has really leaked. It feels like by now we'd usually have a list of what's in the presentation
Maf Posted April 2 Posted April 2 OH SO MARIO KART IS FUCKING CRAZY ALL RIGHT COOL TOTALLY KEEPING CALM THEY REINVENTED THE WHEEL
Pikman Posted April 2 Posted April 2 I'm all in so far I don't really need chat functions I don't think. Maybe... They are showing a lot of Switch 1 games too, which I guess is a good thing as it means they'll work fine?
Pikman Posted April 2 Posted April 2 What I would like are analogue shoulder buttons, always seems like a dumb miss
one-armed dwarf Posted April 2 Author Posted April 2 HDR, but on an LCD screen. I've used HDR on LCD and it looks worse than SDR almost all of the time so I wonder how it works here 2
