Think I'm on chapter 7, and I'm going more for an RPG playthru this time, rather than trying to power thru with minimal attention to move sets and materia. I do enjoy going back to a previously beaten game and getting into the nitty gritty - even learning a bit from YouTube about set ups and combos - for instance the ability to cancel Tifa's uppercut into her dive kick ability, or even something as simple as pressing the pad on the PS5 controller to bring up assess data on a previously scanned enemy. I reckon I got thru the entire game last time without knowing that. I'm mourning for all those wasted ability points😞.

By far the weakest part of the game.

I'd be surprised if this was true. My last playthru wasn't that long ago and is reported a few posts up on this very page, where my main complaint is how archaic the gameplay feels, especially the combat - which is truly awful in the original. I've played Shadows. If it feels anything like that it will be a huge improvement.

Got myself to the slums after the big action opening sequence. I remember when I played this it not liking all the linearity and strolling around. Of course I didn't know how the game was going to unfold back then. Now I'm quite looking forward to all the downtime.

25 hour break on ff7 sorted!

Yeah, I'll be on normal for this playthru. I actually don't remember dying much. Maybe the 🏠, and one of the final bosses. I also seem to remember hating the motorbike. And I'll be taking 25 hour breaks, especially on rebirth, as that became repetitive from what I recall, even tho the open world was stellar.

Have an itch to get back into this world seeing as the last chapter is sort of upon us. Gonna play this (and it's DLC) on the PS5 which I thought was fine, then upgrade to PC for rebirth, which was so blurry on my console I booked an appointment with Specsavers. I'll also be reading thru this thread for tips as I've already played the games and have no fear of spoilers.

1/1/26 - Outer Worlds 2, PC 23/1/26 - Ghost of Tsushima, PC 4/2/26 - Ratchet and Clank (2002) PS3 22/3/26 - Dragon Age, Veilguard, PC 14/5/26 - Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, PC 10/6/26 - Ghost of Yotei, PS5 7/7/26 - Outer Worlds, PC Enjoyable play thru of a rather puny game made solid by the inclusion of its 2 excellent DLCs. Obsidian can make fine games, but Microsoft needs them to churn them out to a certain extent.

Been watching competitive street fighter since 4, and I can't remember anyone dominating the arena like MenaRD in 6.

Last game I finished was Ghost of Yotei, so I'll make my way to that hippy commune in the north and live out my days making pots and fishing without hooks.

I got the spacer's choice edition of this for free on GOG, so I decided to go for a replay. I honestly don't remember it being this full on enjoyable and I'm currently pursuing the first of the two included DLCs, peril on Gorgon, which seems to be taking a cue from my favourite sci-fi film, Serenity. I'll say no more! It's the second DLC which everyone raves over, a sort of murder mystery tale, so I'm looking forward to that one. Yeah, six years later it's been a solid replay, and with this added content, possibly the game it should have been from the start.

Finished Emma, my third Austen of the year. Was looking forward to a bloodbath at the end with Harriet bursting thru the doors like Scarface to reek murderous revenge on the pushy heroine. Seems Austin chickened out, tho. To kill a Mockingbird is next as I push thru the classics.

I agree with that. Those books don't read too well when you've got some bone fide classics under your belt. One thing that always confuses me on those list is the obligatory high placing of The Great Gatsby. I'm quite a fan of American lit, with the likes of Toni Morrison, Saul Bellow among my favourites. But Gatsby is just boring fluff.

Having already beaten the game I had no qualms in altering the difficulty for the absurd final boss. Let's face it,

I know his style can be a bit old fashioned but there's an excellent production by ITV from the 80s with Olivier that's freely available on YouTube. It's full of top actors from the period like Diana Rigg and Robert Lindsey and is really clearly presented and spoken. I watched it live on broadcast cos I'm an old bastard. I like reading Shakespeare but will often seek out something to watch to set the scene.
