  1. I have to admit I'm completely stuck at the mo. I'm talking to every available NPC but I'm just not getting any clues on how to proceed. I'm not willing to use a guide to progress so I'll do another run around the surface area currently available to me and see if I've missed something. There's a hint of Cyan being in Maranda, but fuck knows where that is. Hey, this is old school rpg-ing and I'm not blaming the game.
  2. That console is a feckin legend. I'm glad it was my introduction to gaming - Resi 4, San Andreas, Ico, Shadow of the colossus, Prince of Persia, Ratchet, FF 10, 12, God of War, Jak, Okami... List goes on and on.
  3. That sort of nonsense is why I'll never have these older games in my favourites list. I mean, how are you supposed to know that? Guide book, I suppose. I'm glad gamers got wise to that scam.
  4. Actually, rescuing the first few has been my favourite part of the game so far. Although Tessa seems to have jibbed the team to become a nanny.
  5. I feel silly asking, but am I required to just go around the world looking for all my characters now?
  6. Don't you have to interact with other human beings to play that? ๐Ÿคข๐Ÿคข๐Ÿคฎ
  7. I'm only playing 6 from the 2d entries. I wanted to try one at least but, although I'm enjoying the characters and the sheer history of the thing, I find myself being pressured by it in a weird way. There's just too much to worry about with all these characters, remembering what they do, the pressure of keeping them levelled, the knowledge that just around the corner may be some unassailable road block where lack of genre knowledge might end my game (as was close with that double boss on the way to the floating continent). My experience with FF is from 10 onwards, and it's always been a relaxed and magical experience. Remake was a bit of a slog at times but I never felt I could ever make a critical error and lose hours to grinding. My old school credentials are a bit wanting, but, luckily, the remaster has my back in some ways.
  8. ๐Ÿ˜€ Well my franchise playthru will concentrate initially on the ones I haven't played - 16, rebirth, 13, 8 and 9. Apart from 9 I can already see that list turning you green around the gills.
  9. Now that I've seen it I'd say there's not much point in doing it.
  10. Thought I was over leveled on my way to the floating continent. Not so. Major difficulty spike had me floundering against an unexpected I had to juggle my espers a bit for the first time and had an extremely satisfying win with Ceres, Sabin and Cyan. I also think that fight might have been the one @Maryokutaireferenced earlier in the thread about logic defying antagonists. Talk about a fish out of water๐Ÿ˜€
  11. I need to buy those for my franchise playthru. I know people are generally down on them, but I'm quite looking forward to getting around to them. I actually remember liking the demo, but then being put off by the negative reaction.
  12. You're welcome. Bear in mind there may be more pestering as I proceed with the franchise playthru ๐Ÿ˜Š May I ask what level you tackled the endgame at?
  13. You can just quick save too. I've availed myself of the qol enhancements while being reasonably careful not to destroy the essence of the game. So I've kept the exp multiplier off, but in instances when I've wanted to bring lesser used characters up to level I've put it on. I can't see the point in not doing that tbh, I mean if the purpose of a session is simply to grind a few levels for backup characters before moving on.
  14. Well I seem to be in a dungeon where the enemies feed on magic as though you're lobbing chocolate buttons at them. One question - is it traditional in this game to move espers around amongst characters so they all build up lots of abilities? What I am finding a bit concerning is the sheer amount of characters. I worry about leaving some unleveled, or picking the wrong esper for them, and I keep forgetting who does what in battle. This ain't no hand holder. I love the freedom but also worry about hitting a brick wall later on.
  15. Well nothing can surprise me in this madness. For instance Kefka just decided to attack my party while it was escaping on an airship at several thousand feet, not with some flying monsters, a dragon or a flock of classic wylverns - but a couple of mechanical cranes. A good choice on his part because they kicked my butt something good. I noticed too late that my usual technique with mechs (thunder spells) seemed to be healing them. I won't make that mistake in the rematch.
  16. That opera section is off its nut. Surely the most elaborate scenario ever invented to procure a lift. And how did that boss retain a healthy moistness in the dry atmosphere of the higher arts?
  17. Got my espers last night on a 4 hour flight back from Tenegrief, and I'm standing outside the opera house looking to move the story on with the obligatory JRPG air ship. I actually could have moved on, but much has been made of the opera house episode on the thread, so I decided to leave it to today and get the full effect on my telly.
  18. This will make me seem younger than I am๐Ÿ‘ด, but my failing memory tells me the games (I can't remember which was first) I bought with my own dough, for myself, were Sands of time and Resi 4. This came about because my eldest child wanted a playstation 2 for Christmas one year. Before that I'd had no interest in gaming or even given it a moment's thought. But now I had to get involved, getting my kid through the hard bits in Ratchet, Spyro, god of war๐Ÿ˜€ et al. And I was rather enjoying myself. Next minute I did a bit of research and discovered that there were games, just like movies, intended for adults. The rest is history ๐ŸŽฎ
  19. Talk is cheap๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜‚
  20. Or a more cartoony effort in the style of latter day DQ games - with all the big effects, modern battle system but a fraction of the budget.
  21. Watched a short YouTube documentary on the thoughts Squeenix have given over the years to an FF6 remake. Having played a bit of the game myself it's obvious that a full blooded FF7 remake style affair is far beyond what any sensible studio would attempt. With this many characters and environments in the first 10 hours, and with rebirth not doing so well, it could only end in financial calamity. However it seemed the guys at Squeenix where more than comfortable to contemplate revisiting the game in a more reasonable Octopath/Bravely default manner. Having recently played the non RPG FF7 remake, and begun my first playthru of FF6, I'd say that would be the way to go as far as I'm concerned. And I wish they'd done it with 7.
  22. I'm way behind you by the looks of your hp level on those characters so I haven't encountered those monstrosities. They look scary in minimal pixels. Be like playing a resi game if they ever decided to remake 6.
  23. I'm not sure about that formation thing. I haven't even looked at that. Probably something that will help as the game goes on, to have your caster slightly out of harms reach etc. Having said that, the battles are so fast I sometimes can't follow who's where and who's doing what. I've had people die on me before I've even noticed their hp dropping. Game certainly keeps you on your toes. And in a good way. Not in the FF7 remake's 'is this bastard's health bar ever gonna drop' way Welcome to the playthru @mfnick.
