Manicm Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 The urge didn't go away, was having a nosy in blockbusters £7!!! for a new copy yes its the classic edition but its now mine, ready to be played through again.
retroed Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Nice one, I'm glad I revived this thread. halfagogo and Hinn, sort it out.
halfagogo Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Nice one, I'm glad I revived this thread. halfagogo and Hinn, sort it out. but its been so hyped! how can it possibly live up to it?
Sly Reflex Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Batman is one of the few games that held up to hype.
wholehole Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 but its been so hyped! how can it possibly live up to it? Because it's fucking BATMAN. That's how.
Chinzon Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 but its been so hyped! how can it possibly live up to it? I thought this when I started it just a couple months ago. Turned out to be the best game I'd played in ages.
Manicm Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 If i remember correctly this game was hyped alot at launch but its one of those rare gems that the hype was so right. The game is so good it killed my last xbox off, i resisted buying this game, but 2 weeks after lauch i picked it up, popped into my xbox just got to the first bit and red ring of death, so for me was even more hyped as i had a 3 week wait for a replacement xbox. I really hope the sequel is just as good!
Cyberpunk Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 I bought Batman: Arkham City in the summer Steam sale, and Ed convinced me that I really should finish Arkham Asylum first. Well, I had the GOTY edition on my Steam account, doing absolutely nothing, so I thought why the fuck not? So I booted up Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY, only to find my old save wouldn't work. I originally started the standard version. So I started the game from the beginning again. At the time of writing this, I have just kicked Venom enhanced Joker's purple clad butt, and had a fantastic time getting to that point. This is the way superhero games should be made. The story is superb, the writing gritty, with a twist at every corner. The voice acting was some of the best I've ever seen in a video game. And running on my PC at full res and detail, it looked amazing. The combat was really well engineered, with the player being rewarded for variety of style instead of just button mashing. Of course, I used an Xbox controller to play, and as it's a Games for Windows title, it's boosted my Xbox gamer-score up a bit too. Now I've finished it,albeit later than everyone else, my problem is this. Do I go straight onto Arkham City, or have a small break between the two?
wholehole Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Agree with Nag, much prefer AA over the sequel, way tighter world and story. The open world of the sequel didn't work as well as they hoped, it's still cool to fly around and be Batman but it's just not as focused. Probably have a little break before AC, otherwise the few flaws it has might start to rear their head more than they should.
radiofloyd Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Played the first half hour of this. Impressive opening, walking through the asylum with Joker while the credits roll. The music is brilliant. I'm not too familiar with Batman. I loved the tv show when i was younger so i know who Penguin, The Riddler and The Joker are...and of course i've seen most of the movies. Most of it will probably go over my head (the croc character and Harley Quinn are new to me) but it seems like it's going to be a great story-driven game.
Sly Reflex Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Amazing game. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I dont think anyone here knew who Zas was before the game, but he was part of the furniture by Arkham City
Manicm Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 This game was awesome and set the stage for any future comic book hero games in my opinion. It did however kill my xbox red ring of death, i got to the first action scene and it just died! I had to wait a few weeks to play this, but great game.
Sambob Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 there's hidden tapes and notes that do a good job of giving some detail on characters. I dont think anyone here knew who Zas was before the game, but he was part of the furniture by Arkham City I did, and i take it a slight that you would talk down upon my batman knowledge, how dare you sir, how dare you.

Same as what Ben said, they do a great job of giving you background info on the characters through cards to read and some other collectible stuff. I was the same as you, seen the films, remembered the TV series but only knew the main people - now I know a whole lot more. Also, remember that intro sequence. Winky face.
radiofloyd Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Still only a couple of hours into it, i've been exploring around the grounds collecting trophies, audio tapes etc. I'm not sure if i'm in the mood to play this type of game. I've no problem exploring areas fully but i won't be doing any backtracking to find stuff (unless the game has you revisiting areas in the course of the story). Doing the optional stuff in Assassins Creed 2 killed my enjoyment of the game and I don't want to get bogged down again. I'll probably play on for a couple more nights and see how i'm feeling about it. I've had a pretty intense summer of gaming and i might have reached my limit...
Sly Reflex Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 You retread certain areas but they are different from what I can remember. They are the same areas in location only.
Craymen Edge Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 There's not really much of a need for backtracking unless you're going for 100% completion of all that stuff. And then you could just wait until you have all the gadgets and revisit a place tooled up to clear it in one visit. You'll pass through some previous areas on the way to new parts of the complex as the story progresses.
radiofloyd Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 I started this at the end of last summer, I think I was put off by the amount of optional stuff in the game and didn't get into it. Gamer fatigue I guess. Glad I didn't force myself to play it because I picked up from where I left off tonight and wow - it really is an ace game. Atmosphere is pitch perfect. Fucking funny too: "The only way I could have made that one easier to find is if I strapped it to the hood of that ludicrously ostentatious vehicle of yours."
Hendo Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 Happy to report it’s still ace. Only an hour or two in so far but enjoying it. Looks like how you remember it, but having seen comparison videos, they’ve done a lot of work to clean it up a lot.
