Batman Arkham Asylum

DANGERMAN

Recommended Posts

First off it's slightly different from the demo, for one the intro is much longer, which lets you see more of Arkham and see more of the Joker.

The game itself starts off with the same tutorial battle against the goons, and is the same up until you beat Zsasz. In the demo you then do some more stealth stuff, here though it takes you through some basic climbing stuff and a bit more fighting, before you move onto the 'boss' fight against against one of Jokers mutated henchmen. The fight is a massive anti-climax, it's really just to teach you to dodge, which might be for the best as the camera is a bit like Gears' (right behind you) and so it's a little hard to manoeuvre around. I thought I'd worked out the tactic to beat him, but well I'll leave it to you lot to find out.

It's pretty good so far. At points it looks brilliant, at points the ps3's lack of AA shows through. Characters faces are still bizarre, the the environments are really well fleshed out, it doesn't just feel like a crate has been dumped in a room to fill it up a bit.

I've just got to a bit where I have to backtrack. On the way through I noticed rooms, items and areas that I couldn't access yet, so my guess is that Arkham might not be all that massive. Although there's every chance it is, and the game is just longer than I'm expecting

Ive read reviews praising how massive Arkham is, with an Arkham

batcave

.

I wont get to play this until tomorrow afternoon, and probably only for a little bit. So nobody post any negative comments until about monday, just try and find positive things about the game (im looking at you here Ben, and possibly Wiivo, he wont like it)

only played it for 30 mins so haven't got very far but agree about the graphics, it looks really nice, the people look odd but odd in a good way if that makes any sence. liked the combat too with the cool slow-mo moves and stuff. only thing that seemed odd was having to press X to pick up the green question marks, no big deal though, they seem to be like the orbs in crackdown, hidden all over the place. good fun so far :)

Yeah, and another thing (sorry Sam), why do you have to press X repeatedly to open grates etc? Wet does this too to open doors, you're either going to open them or not. Hammering a button to open a door is not gameplay

yeah that's a good point, lots of games do that sort of thing too, like hammer a button to move a crate or turn a valve, hardly game-braking (so don't worry too much Sam) but odd and a bit pointless. i wonder why they do it? convention? or maybe to try to stop the player getting bored during the cool but far too long (maybe for loading?) grate opening animation or something?

Just done the Scarecrow section. If anyone was concerned of a lack of variety in the gameplay then this should address that. Actually the surprising thing about the gameplay is how much downtime you have. I was expecting every room to throw something at you, but there's a bit of lonely corridor walking.

I quite like the idea of the Riddlers quests aswell, but it's so hard to find them even if you solve them that it probably requires a newgame+ option (that this may or may not have)

This is probably the best game ive played since Gears 2 last November. Ive pretty much loved everything about it so far, the story, the sneaking around, the fighting, the collecting of interview tapes and Riddler statues, love it.

My only grips so far is that the camera can feel a little too close to Batman when walking around, especially noticable when you turn quickly by a wall and the camera almost seems to be in your face or left behind for the quickest of instances.

Im getting use to the fighting now, ive uprgraded a few things like my Batarang and Explosives, also my fighting moves so i can string critical hits together. I just took out about 11 guys in one big group where before i was scared to attack two.

I wanna say that this is an essential 360 purchase, i'll confirm that when ive finished it once and look back on the memories. Big thumbs up so far tho, biiiiig thumbs up.

This is definetly on my to get list, really enjoyed the demo and have gotten into the Batman books just recently (read Dark Knight Returns, Year One and All Star Batman and Robin: The Boy Wonder), will hopefully be able to get this and Forza 3 which is more than enough to keep me happy

It is special Wiivo, very special. Ive played the shit out of it this weekend, i think im at the end now and its been a hell of a ride. Ive got all available gadgets now so no obstacle can stand in my way and the rest of the game is open to me now so im thinking before i go and pound on the Joker im gonna go back and solve as many of the Riddler secrets as possible.

Some of the sneaky sneaky sections have just been brilliant, the last one i did being my favorite so far. I took down a goon with a silent takedown from behind, his mate found his body and called everyone over in panic and by the time thay had all arrived i had found my way to a lofty vantage point to enjoy the chaos. I then used my Ultra Batclaw to pull three of them off a ledge, glided down and took out a fourth, hid above his body (on a conviniently placed gargolyle) untill the final one came over at the site of his mates body and used an inverted takedown to string the bugger up. I left him dangling too. It all took about 40 seconds and it just opitomised how well the system works.

Also, an awesome bit where i thought the game had crashed.... i'll say no more.

Everyone should be playing this game.

just finished this, really impressed, i wasn't planning on getting it but got a cheap preorder and kept it because of the good reviews, really glad i did, great game :D looks like you can go back to get the remaining pickups when you've finished. not tried the challenge rooms yet.

yeah the stealth rooms are great, it only really works so well because the bad guys are practically blind, i

ziplined

past a guy hoping to kick him in the face but just missed, he didn't notice me at all so i still got a silent take down thing on him, not sure if it's like that because im playing on easy mode though? anyway i really like it like that, great fun.

that bit about crashing wasn't as scary playing on a ps3! but i also had it spoiled by reading something like that illdog!

Bought this today and sunk a load of hours into it. Love it, it's a proper good game, not just good "for a licensed game".

You really feel like a bad mofo when you're using Batman's many abilities.

I think I'm at least halfway through, done 2 of Scarecrow's sections and they prove that it's not just a cheap cash-in.

The voice acting is mostly passable but Mark Hamill is really good.

I started this tonight, and I've just switched off after doing this bit. That was so well done.

I am pretty much stunned. From what I've played so far, it's a masterpiece, and up there with the best single player experiences this generation. It has made me think of Resident Evil 4 on more than one occasion, not sure exactly why, but it's of similar quality which is high praise. I am loving everything about the game so far, the stealth, puzzles, graphics and audio are all top notch. This is an extremely polished title that has had me gripped from the start. One of the first upgrades I got was the inverted takedown, it's brilliant.

I'm not a huge superhero fan in the slightest, but Arkham Asylum is making me love the Batman universe.

I finished this last night aswell, such a brilliant game. Im buggering around doing Riddler puzzles now and the man himself just told me ive done 75%, there getting hard now.

Very reminiscent of Bioshock in places, especially when i was walking round the mental place with an interview tape playing that id just found. Loving the little piano tune it plays every now and again aswell, just a few notes and then it stops.... love it.

For those who've finished it:

I'm stuck on a boss, well, two bosses. The bit when Joker injects two of his goons and they go huge. I think I managed to get on the back of one of them by accident and could control him for a bit to hit the other one. Any tips?

But yeah, this is a really well done game. I am most surprised at it, especially loving the Riddler stuff.

This really is a great game, Ive only just found the

batcave after fighting Bane

but I think it is brilliant. I like the way the gamestyle changes all the time so it never gets boring. I think I am having the most fun searching for the Riddler trophies.

The only thing I dont like Ben mentions in the podcast and that is Harley Quinn - she doesnt sit right in the game for me - and her voice actress is terrible. I know she is meant to be crazy woman, but they have used the usual crazy woman voice style of having an adult talk like a child. That is my only issue tho - great game.

edit : I forgot to mention the first screcrow bit - brilliant stuff. I shat myself when you

explode the wall and he turns round to look for you

I cant wait for the other ones.
