radiofloyd
I had wanted to do a top ten of 2017 but then I kept discovering music I like. I love Elbow's album Little Fictions, it's the first album of theirs I've owned and it's great. Lovely piano and guitar rock record. Also, The Horrors' new album V is really good. I haven't really liked the shoegaze-y direction they went in after Primary Colours, but V is much closer to something like the new Slowdive record with the singer's vocals again really prominent, which I like. Also I've been listening to Special Explosion's new album To Infinity which came out in December. It's a lovely indie rock record in the vein of bands like Built to Spill. Not bought anything yet in 2018.
Hendo
That’s funny because i’m a huge Elbow fan and that is the first album of theirs I’ve been properly disappointed with. They lost their drummer, and you can tell. Lots of the beats just don’t make sense.
radiofloyd
Some Japanese music I like. This was NHK’s official song of the Winter Olympics. I’ve never watched the Winter Olympics in my life but I watched every day of it this year, Japanese tv’s coverage of it is excellent, they really get behind all the Japanese athlete’s (Japan had a really good Olympics) so it’s quite the emotional journey watching it. It was the same with the Rio Olympics. And this is the theme song from 5cm Per Second. When I was in Hokkaido I was lucky enough to go to a Makoto Shinkai exhibition and I’ve been listening to this song ever since.
Duck
A few albums i've been listening recently... George Fitzgerald's new album 'All That Must Be' is really nice.. Myrkur - 'Mareridt' I love this album. Folk/Black metal. I don't want to pigeon hole her. But to me it's like The Witcher soundtrack had a baby with Sigur Ros with black metal riffs. Really good. I've also been playing Four Tet remix playlists all the time when i'm working at home..
radiofloyd
I don’t understand a word of Spanish but I’ve been listening to it a lot recently... Firstly the album Musas by Natalia Lafourcade, which is lovely. She also sings on the Coco soundtrack which I bought after watching the movie. I love it, the Japanese OST has three discs, the songs in Japanese, the songs in the original English/Spanish and then a third cd of music from the film. It’s lovely. radiofloyd
Yeah his last two albums have been great (I’ve never actually listened to his first album, I should probably rectify that). Looking forward to God’s Favourite Customer.

radiofloyd
Been listening to three new albums in addition to the three l mentioned above, Rebound by Eleanor Friedberger, 7 by Beach House and Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino by Arctic Monkeys. Rebound is a nice synthpop/singer-songwriter album. 7 might be my favourite Beach House album since Teen Dream. Teen Dream was possibly the album that kickstarted my love of indie music around 2009/2010, it was the first album I’d heard by them. I liked their follow up Bloom (especially when I heard them perform the songs live) but it was a bit more repetitive and less song-oriented than I would have liked, and the next two albums they released (both in 2015) I got a similar vibe from and I barely listened to them at the time. 7 is something totally different. I guess it’s Beach House’s shoegaze album. It sounds like MBV, Slowdive etc. A shoegaze Beach House album might not have sounded like something I need in my life but they’ve written their best set of songs since Teen Dream I think. Great stuff. And the new Arctic Monkeys album is great too. I haven’t listened to an album of theirs since their first album but this is really good. It has a kind of classic rock/prog-rock/David Bowie vibe.
Duck
I've been listening to Now Now new one 'Saved' quite a lot.. It's waaaay more synth-pop than 'Threads'. But i'm into it. I probably still prefer 'Threads' though. Also new Jon Hopkins.. I like pretty much everything he puts out but this album has taken me a lot longer to digest in my head.. it's cool though. Hendo
Feel like I’m late to the party on this one, but I’ve been spending the last hour or two in work listening to SZA’s album Ctrl, which is fantastic. A lot of RnB singers sound like they’re just singing to show off but it sounds like she’s singing loads of notes purely to fit in all the words she wants to say.
