Microsoft Consoles and Updates

This has been clarified as a 10 year deal for CoD only, no other Activision/Blizzard games and will need renegotiating in 2033... which also gets you thinking presumably that PS6 will be released way before that and the only way it'll get a native version of CoD would be for MS to have dev kits... it's such a weird scenario.

I’d be surprised if neither side had dev kits of each others this or last or one before gen.

That's what I'm saying... Microsoft would need a PS6 dev kit to make a PS6  version of CoD seeing as that game will continue to be a multiplatform game. I'm pretty certain that's the reason they used as to why there was no native PS5 version of Minecraft... Mojang weren't sent dev kits.

Edit... and I've completely misread your comment...🤣... I'm going back to sleep.

I mean, the specs of each others consoles stop being a secret to each other at some point, especially since they share a lot of components from the same place.  And IP laws are what's stopping them just using each others tech, not that they literally don't know what's in the competition.

Specs are known to third parties years before the release... maybe not fully locked in but they'd definitely be in the know.

Either way I just think it's an odd situation and one we've not really seen before.

Had a notification that the "new home experience" was coming when I turned on the Xbox earlier... no download yet though, I always look forward to these updates especially as they've (supposedly) made it so game art and such is more prominent.

It says on VGC about 220 about games to disappear, the future is now.

It's really calling into question the ability of the console makers to keep a full store of their back catalogue.  MS have been the best at it so far but if they're dropping a lot too then what does it mean for everyone else?

Dust: An Elysian Tale is a weird case.  I didn't even know it came out for the 360.  Looks like it came out there first before being ported/updated for the PS4 (where I first heard of it at least), but no XO version was made, so that's the only way to play it on Xbox.

Another case for those public digital libraries I think.

I've seen some people mention that this will be the last closure to ever happen (at least if you count PS3/Vita do be decided on and just waiting to happen) because the currently used storefronts are unified in their respective ecosystems. I wish I could share that optimism, but I'm not so sure.

Speaking of digital nonsense: didn't Microsoft at some point say that you could pre-load game on Xbox without owning them, to have them pre-installed even if, say, you decide to pick them up at retail? Does anyone here know how that works? I'm asking because it would be rather useful for Starfield but I couldn't find the option at all.
