  1. Past hour
  2. I played the tutorial and might be done already. It looks amazing, but the first hour is so story heavy and the story/characters/writing is so shit. Like so shit. It was starting to make me a bit angry. The characters talk like Marvel characters via Netflix and they lay their world on so heavy and direct and there’s nothing to it. It’s like really? REALLY? This is taking a whole ass hour for this. I remember one time watching a video/podcast from a game publisher talking about pitches. How they sometimes have people come in and show off this 1000 page bible of lore and background they’ve come up with, etc, and how bad that is to start a pitch. You need to show what makes the game unique and fun before delving in to the fictional politics and rules for your magic world. I am begging, BEGGING, video games to do the same for their games. The opening hour is you pitching me on the game. Show me why playing the game is fun, and if I get interested on the most basic level I become open minded to the rest of it. The first hour of this game is CoD style following someone around, then 2nd rate CoD style set piece where a bunch of stuff is happening around the level while you sprint through it, cue perfunctory, predictable character tragedy, then shooting magic pip, pip. The shooting is fine. Blue magic is rifle, red magic is shotgun, green magic is sub machine gun. It’s ight. The one thing that worries me as I did my usual rebinding the keys to something useable I noticed there’s about 8 different magic spells that all have their own button, which by default are on the number key row. Err, that’s going to be problem because I can’t use those at all and I can’t find more keys for 8 different things. Maybe they’re not all necessary? 😅 I dunno. I only played an hour but what a laborious, bland and lifeless hour it was. Very off-putting. The audio is badly mixed, too. I even switched to headphones and tried to mess around with the sliders but the voices all sound slightly muffled no matter how I changed the different levels and the music sounds kinda good but like it’s playing underwater Un. Im. Pressed
  3. Today
  4. I really wanted to like the first one, but bounced off it surprisingly.
  5. Sony bought Nixxes https://x.com/okami13_/status/1791890547457548443?s=12&t=juYHQ5_-Jn2mNy4TIBMSgA Makes sense. I guess they’ll be purely PC port team
  6. I really liked the first one, was very happy with the way it played - a bit like a grown up Fable game. Not that I'm averse to a bit of Dragon age and such, but that struck me first off as a bit disappointing. I'll probably get used to the idea.

    RedFall

Offline Mode will be added after all: https://x.com/playRedfall/status/1791491460858020040 People were expecting this to be scrapped. I realise the game wasn't a hit by any means, but at least it will outlive its eventual server shutdown now, which I wouldn't be surprised to see happen in the next 12 months.

    Stellar Blade

Well, beat it after 2 tries today. It be like that sometimes. Great game. Straight into NG+ going to get all trophies me thinks.
  9. This got announced a while back but out of nowhere we just got a bit of an info dump via ign. There's a couple of big changes here, first and foremost the combat which ditches the (IMO really solid) real-time action combat from the first game in favour of a more CRP tactical system known from BioWare's early games. The second big change is that it goes into early access in summer, which I think is a first fir Spyders. This is probably both simultaneously risky and really lucky. Risky because you can already tell by the puerile comment section that people aren't very open-minded and want to press buttons to hit stuff, but lucky because this is coming out roughly a year after BG3 reinvigorated this entire subgenre of the RPG and made it cool again. Plus we're already getting another real-time RPG in Avowed this year, so the timing really couldn't be better for this. Hope it turns out well. Good west RPG are few and far between these days (on console at least) and Spyders has been doing some great work with their last releases.
  10. 😵 block that muthafucka

    Ghost of Tsushima

I thought black bars were really closed in but I sort of stopped noticing after a minute or so I think this Christmas I will treat myself to a UW monitor. This shit so good
  12. Widescreen aspect ratio is kino but that video isn't kino, that video is like being a fish person. Very uncool 🐟 A comment in that video puts it well, there's like no vertical space to the frame here. Dude feels like he's trapped in the corridor dimension. 21:9 is a better ratio IMO The choice is cool tho, to have it like this if you want (if you happen to be a fish)

Ultra wide is so sick (Wait a few seconds for the black bars to draw back a little bit) I think this is the best thing about the PC version. There’s higher frame rates and better shadows/reflections, too. But the PS5 already does 60fps and the settings are not material imo] Ultra wide looks amazing for these cinematic style games, though
  14. For me it's that the peripherals I have work. The PS4 was ok but there were games early on that blocked older pads and sticks. Still, if I buy a physical copy of a fighting game it's the PS4 version because I don't fancy buying another pad for the PS5 when there's no decent reason my current ones won't work

    Stellar Blade

This end boss is really kicking my arse! Not even managed to get it to half health yet after an hour! Having a great time with it still though
  17. Finished the last 2 episodes of X-Men. Absolutely loved it. There were moments in ep 9 where I got a little bit short of breath I was getting so excited for the big fight. Which in terms of action didn’t disappoint. It’s Dragon Ball as fuck There is one thing which stops me from grading it as perfect Apart from that the show continued to do everything I’ve loved about the show since the start. Writing is amazing, action is amazing, the team/family dynamics, the earnest superhero-ness of it. I much prefer it when superheroes work together as a true team instead of in spite of each other with lots of infighting I think overall I’d give the series a 9/10. Probably would have been a 10 of the bad guy worked for me. But because the bad guy lost me at the end and so much of it hangs on him. I just, sigh. I’m sitting here thinking, but I just don’t get that part. Roll on Spider-Man ‘97! I mean Season 2!
  18. Saw that the other day... I'm good till May next year, after that I'll have to see what's happened and what's happening...
  19. Wait, there’s more 😂 https://x.com/hazzadorgamin/status/1791517410706755694?s=12&t=juYHQ5_-Jn2mNy4TIBMSgA
  20. Yeah I can see a price rise coming... but everything goes up so it'll be no different from anything else in life.
  21. Good decision from them. Finally. If they didn’t do that it was them giving up on GP completely. It’s their differentiating factor so they need to be all in on it. & it’s the only way they’ll get PS people to potentially switch and start investing in the Xbox ecosystem.
  22. https://www.eurogamer.net/call-of-duty-2024-will-launch-into-xbox-game-pass-microsoft-has-reportedly-decided Well this'll be a massive litmus test for Game Pass numbers if it does turn out true. If this doesn't grow subs then nothing will.
  23. I think another reason is that fighting games usually outlive console cycles, so if you're really into the genre you're probably already on PC and playing games that have long been abandoned by publishers and have been revived or even been improved by fans (rebalancing, rollback-mods etc.). The console versions probably primarily attract both extremes: the super casual players who play through the story mode and move on and the pros who need them to practice for tournament setups.
  24. Like that LinkedIn thing a couple pages back says, Gamepass is fine as long as the numbers are growing. Small-er games probably just need to drive a bit of growth to be worth it, but things like Starfield are meant to be the big drivers. I think in a sense there was so much riding on Starfield. Remember what Skyrim did for the 360? They must have been hoping Starfield was that kind of hit and it would just keep bringing people in for years. Now they have to sell it on PlayStation 😞 And nobody will buy it because the game sucks 😞😞 A lot of people said the Xbox/Activision deal would be bad for gaming. I never envisioned the first thing it would be bad for was Xbox
  25. PC has become so popular with fighting games. I think because that version is cheaper, has cross play, more accessories and the modding scene for skins and things like that probably does make it the best place to play them. The only downside I’ve seen is the graphics aren’t as sharp as the PS5 versions for some reason. But then I’m playing on different screens for PC and console. That could be the difference I’ll watch that video over the weekend, it sounds interesting
