Probably should have made a topic for this at some point, but Victory Heat Rally comes out digitally next week (12.12.) on Switch and there's going to be a LRG published physical release as well:

It's not part of the official LRG numbered collection, so with a bit of luck we're going to see a 'normal' release at some point, too.

XDefiant getting shut down in June 2025, already delisted, and UbiSoft closing down San Francisco and Osaka studios, resulting in 177 people losing their jobs: https://x.com/stephentotilo/status/1864093792682262762

Seems more and more likely that AC Shadows will be their Final Fantasy moment, but I don't quite see it resulting in the same outcome unfortunately. XDefiant seemed to be a decent enough game, but releasing yet another live service shooter (especially if you already have a good one in RB6) is such a dumb idea.

Capcom might have more dormant IPs than 'just' Okami and Onimusha in line for a resurrection: https://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/news/html/e241213.html

In addition to regularly releasing major new titles each year, Capcom is focusing on re-activating dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently. The company is working to further enhance corporate value by leveraging its rich library of content, which includes reviving past IPs like the two titles announced above, in order to continuously produce highly efficient, high-quality titles.

I'd almost bet on a new take on Mega-Man coming at some point. Would absolutely make sense with how popular though-as-nails 2D games have become in the indie scene, plus there's no way the Secret Level short was just something they threw out for the heck of it.

I do hope Breath of Fire is among those IPs though. I'd even be okay with a collection of the old games, III and IV are pretty much unavailable everywhere.

D&D Dark Alliance (2021) is being pulled from sale at the end of Feb 25 (with the closedown of online play too).

FWIW you can buy a physical copy (PS4) for around £15, Xbox One ~£10, so that's a route if you want to play it sometime in the future (of course if you buy a digital copy too before cut off you can play that).

I wonder if they ever patched it into a somewhat finished state. I remember when I played it on release (should be a topic somewhere) I felt like it had the potential to be a decent, if maybe a bit superficial, action RPG, but damn was it a buggy and glitchy mess when it came out. If there's still discs available next month I might pick it up, was playing it on Xbox One back then, too, so maybe the Series X upgrade made it a bit better if nothing else.

  • 2 weeks later...

Given the lack of updates since this was announced I can't say I'm particularly surprised... shit news for a number of reasons though.
