  1. Penny’s Breakaway is an immediate purchase when I get home. I think it’s looked amazing from the beginning but also from the Sonic Mania devs? I will buy that I thought that puzzle game Arranger looked really cool as well. Very eye catching How solid the Switch games coming still are reaffirms all I’m looking for from Switch 2 is the same on better hardware. Doesn’t need to be cutting edge, they don’t need to reinvent it with a new gimmick. Just a bit more modern. Because a lot of the games still look great, you just know the performance is going to be really shaky for a lot of these games

  5. Some cool stuff. My personal highlight is the port of the first MH Stories, so people can ignore it releasing in the twilight year of a platform again.

  6. Balatro - out today. I played the demo last week and thought it was great.

  7. Bit of a warning to collectors: the Xbox version can't be played off the disc. I installed it offline but when I tried to play it forced me to go online and download a massive update. Had I known that in advance I'm not sure if I had bought it at full price.

  8. I've not played it, but Joel has a brother as well, right? It writes itself

  9. I know it was a partner direct, although Nintendo's own are filled with old games too 🙂 It felt to me like they should have launched the next console with Zelda last year. This all just feels like a holding pattern where we all know it's coming, 3rd parties are starting to leave it behind, and Nintendo are moving their serious efforts elsewhere. I'm honestly not sure why they bothered with this direct

  10. I thought the Direct was really poor. They need a Switch follow up soon just to freshen things up. When you're porting old Battlefront games you know you're struggling. Epic Mickey being described as a classic is certainly a bold claim, and it looked rough too, weirdly framey for what was a Wii game. I was going to post that at least there was Shin Megami, but from reading the thread it's just 5 with added content?

  13. What to expect from SMTVV: I don't think I'm in any rush to play a rework but I hope the story is improved. While as a game I think it's really good but the story is anemic in the OG version.

  14. So I haven't played enough of the demo to warrant making a topic for it, but this is absolute quality stuff. It's polished to the last pixel, has a superb soundtrack and its new twist on the tactical RPG genre is really easy to grasp but has immense depth. It's also masterfully optimised for Switch and runs at 60fps both docked and in handheld. Granted I've only played 30 minutes but if it stays on that level for its full duration I wouldn't be surprised to see this pop up in the GOTY discussions this year.

  15. Not really anything for me. Monkey Ball could be fun but I’ve struggled with any since the first. Seems to be one of those games where the first one you ply is the best. One of a handful of games that made the GameCube controller make sense too. Doesn’t feel right without those angles to get a true direction. Penny’s breakaway only has my attention because of Sonic Mania otherwise it doesn’t look great at all in that trailer. Look forward to the reviews on that one. Pepper Grinder is by far the best game here but already knew about that for a long time. Everything else was sleep inducing. Almost got excited about the Rare Collection coming to Switch (where it’s fit perfectly) but instead just got the odd VC type games. Damn shame. Absolutely. Just don’t make it look shit on a 4K OLED and so more modern games can run without turning into a slideshow & we’re good. Same. With the current dev times, costs & trying to penny pinch in every big game it’s making me wish consoles from now on would just run PS4 scale games but at better and consistent frame rates - 60-120fps. Fuck making them look any better anymore. Said this a few times but games don’t need to look any better. Waiting 5+ years for big games (plus the dev time and cost) is just ridiculous. I know that’s not realistic. It’d never happen. & even though I’m saying that I’d still be gutted if games never looked better but it’s better than how things are now. Remember when we got full trilogies plus spin offs to our favourite games (including new IPs) back in 360 days? That was the peak!

  16. Yeah I feel the same way. Reading the news the past couple weeks from MS and Sony has got me feeling kinda bleak about the future of those systems and high end AAA gaming. More powerful hardware running the same kinds of experiences, that was a monkey's paw when we were hoping for cross gen to hurry up and go away.

  17. Welcome to the club, shiny. I think I'll just say regarding fusing personas is don't be afraid to just liberally fuse them. You always have access to any you've had in your party through the compendium in the velvet room. There is a monetary cost to doing that, sometimes it's very expensive, but that's what the decision is rather than "do I fuse this persona?", it's "do I buy this persona or go find another".

  18. Ayyyy love that you’re giving it a go @shinymcshine I’m not a super expert that knows everything by any means. But I can definitely answer some of your questions and give you some tips and stuff like that. If you want any just say, but sounds like you’re playing it just fine to me.

  19. First time playing a Persona game - and it's clearly a bit weird, but after pushing through a couple of hours of talky intros etc I now feel like I'm getting somewhere - even thought it's still 21 April, but I'm 'freely' exploring the tower for the first real time (which feels a bit like Azure Dreams). Not too sure quite how far I'm supposed to be going, just triggered the teleport on Lv 17, with a pending 'boss' fight - but don't seem to be having too many issues so far. No real idea on fusing Personas together, and whether I've done the right thing - but I combined Angel & Silky to make a Forneus. I guess it's not knowing what's a good / bad thing to do, and whether early (ill informed) choices will kick you in the ass later on, but without dipping straight into a guide, then who knows....!?!? Hopefully it'll be forgiving of a trial & error approach. Likewise I've no idea how far I'm suppose to keep going up the tower currently, and if it's just a case of continuing until prompted to stop, or when I hit a difficulty barrier, or if I can bail out whenever. I'm around 4.5 hrs so far, and there's still pop-up tutorials ever so often, so I don't know if the training wheels are ready to come off quite yet ?

  21. I mean…yeah, you’re probably right. The other rumour is they’re going to be Gold/Silver remakes but in the Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee style. Those games ended up being pretty fantastic actually so I wouldn’t mind that Although I feel kind of guilty sitting here saying “Yeah, I’ll buy Pokémon Silver again for the 4th time!”
