http://spong.com/article/27531/Japan-PS-Vita-Sells-Under-800k-Units-in-Six-Months

Fresh data has been published for the PlayStation Vita's first six months on sale in Japan. Is it looking pretty? Well, take a look for yourself - less than 800,000 units have been sold since the system's launch. 790,633 units, to be exact.

Sony Japan representatives have apparently told Famitsu, which published the figures, that the hardware numbers match the company's expectations and initial projections. Although they could just be putting on a brave face - the platform hasn't exactly sold like hotcakes since its launch in December, being outsold in many weeks by its predecessor, the PSP.

There is some light at the end of the tunnel, though. The release of a new system colour and the popularity of Persona 4 The Golden has boosted sales somewhat in the last couple of weeks, and Sony is hoping that it can maintain the momentum with Hatsune Miku Project Diva f in August, as well as other announcements in September's Tokyo Game Show.

Let's hope one of those games coming soon is a new Monster Hunter. Lord knows Sony needs one of those right now.

Famitsu's data also includes the top ten best selling games on the Vita since launch. The fact that Persona 4 The Golden is sat at the top of the list, despite being on sale for such a short period of time, is quite telling.

01 - Persona 4 The Golden (188,782)

02 - Hot Shots Golf 6 (118,985)

03 - Uncharted Golden Abyss (89,390)

04 - Gravity Daze/Rush (74,785)

05 - Dynasty Warriors Next (74,718)

06 - Tales of Innocence R (71,463)

07 - Lord of Apocalypse (69,162)

08 - Ragnarok Odyssey (65,318)

09 - Gundam Seed Battle Destiny (55,527)

10 - Disgaea 3 Return (54,902)

I'm guessing when the PSP version of Monster Hunter comes out it'll give the Vita a good hard kick up the arse. Not as much as a dedicated Vita MH title though.

Some news from Gamescom, handily borrowed by Delusibeta on GRcade forums:

1) PS1 support released 28th August, alongside the start of Cross Controller support (for LittleBigPlanet 2) and a host of other fixes and features (yes, you can now use buttons on the main menu)

2) Crossplay: PlayStation All Stars, Sly 4 and Ratchet & Clank Q Force will be the first physical Buy One Download The Other Format For Free PS3/Vita games.

3) PlayStation+ support for the Vita is coming. Specific details are TBC at the moment, but there's going to be a 25% off new subscriptions promotion coming soon and your cloud save ration will be increased to a full gigabyte.

4) Game reveals: Killzone: Mercenary, Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified (which looks like a Burning Skies reskin), Tearaway, Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault.

5) Playstation Mobile will finally get released some point this year.

Good to see Sony giving the Vita some needed attention.

Indeed it is! £9.99, or £7.99 PS+. Buy one, get both versions. :)

Cool just downloading it now. After Another amazingly useful Sony error message, my card details were out of date, but it just kept saying failed to connect to server

Edit- got this on vita, thought I'd gotten away without having to do a firmware update as store access was no problem.....then trying to play the game prompts for an update :( On the plus side vita updates seem pretty fast compared to ps3 ones.

For those of you who have already purchased these titles, you will be able to re-download those games directly from your PS Store account or transfer them to your PS Vita directly from your PS3.

Apparently the US got 9 compatible games for launch with this firmware update.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-08-29-playstation-vita-update-locks-memory-cards

There's a bonus feature for PlayStation Vita owners who have updated to the system's new firmware: Sony has locked memory cards to specific PlayStation Network accounts.

Gamers were previously able to switch PSN accounts via the slightly cumbersome process of "restoring" the system.

Now, those with content from multiple accounts or multiple regions will have to buy another memory card or lose their data.

One way to separate your content onto several memory cards is to copy it back to a PlayStation 3, NeoGAF users reported. But those with only one Vita memory card handy will need to go shopping first.

It's a problem that will hit users who have accounts on multiple PlayStation Stores - useful as not all content is released in all regions.

The move comes at an especially bad time - Sony has just enabled PSone game support for the Vita. Those who bought titles using a different PSN account to their handheld's will also need to juggle memory cards.

Yeah the memory is way too expensive at the moment, although i seem to have a magic card because ive got shit loads on it and it hasnt yet complained about it...

I might have a go at Vagrant story, always wanted to play that. It would be awesome if SOTC came on the Vita too, would make my day entirely as its probably the PS game I most regret not playing.

Of all the games that get sequels over and over again, VS was a game that deserved a sequel yet never got one. Was a bit tricky in places, but it's a damn sight better than what Square pumps out these days...

Well, SoTC was a spiritual sequel to it right?

its got the dude with the horns....

which is one of my main reasons for wanting to play VS

wasn't SOTC the spiritual sequel to Ico rather than Vagrant Story?

I've been playing a bit of soul reaver on the vita and it's lovely. Quick tip to everyone as well. If you want to view the game in full screen hold your finger on the touch screen and it will come up with a menu for screen size and controls. If the game had analogue support then you can use the sticks in game.

The back panel also works as L2/R2 and L3/R3.

You are correct, I was actually thinking of Ico.
