Maryokutai
I think this was the first year since the PS1 days that I haven't played anything on a Playstation. I do have a couple of PS4 games I'd like to go back to though, so maybe next year.

one-armed dwarf
The 9 hour Stellar Blade is its demo, I spent almost as much time fighting that boss and learning stuff than playing the main game. 16 hours in Rebirth's demo as well, thought it was a great demo. PS5 been pretty dusty since whenever SB came out
Maf
Wonder if Nintendo and Steam do a Wrapped as well. See a total for how much time I’ve spent on games this year
mfnick
Nintendo definitely did one last year.
HandsomeDead
It says three games played but it lists just P5 and Ragnarok which is right. Dunno what the other thing is.

Nag
Sounds like Sony believe consoles aren't going any where for the foreseeable. https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2025/01/consoles-here-to-stay-ps5-to-be-supported-into-next-gen-says-playstation-ceo
DANGERMAN
I'm pretty sure Playstation is Sony's biggest division, so they could do with it sticking around I also don't think customers are ready for a sea change like streaming directly to their tv via an app yet, not for games. People still want a box. It might pay off for Microsoft in the long run, but not yet
Maf
I think they’ll always be a place for consoles. How those consoles take shape and change who knows, but the idea of a fixed, plastic box to play games on I don’t see going away anytime soon
one-armed dwarf
The definition of what a console is could become more flexible, more feathered at the edges. Especially as it sounds like Valve wants to try the steam box thing again this year, after the success they had with the Deck. Also you have MS's whole 'anything is an xbox' thing
Nag
I'm certainly glad they'll be around for the foreseeable, there's definitely no substitute for playing locally and I'd be amazed if that changed any time soon. Just hope the next ones aren't 800 quid a pop.😅
one-armed dwarf
Sony have cancelled some games again, one of them a GoW GAAS game by Bluepoint https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:2mkgbhbhqvappkkorf2bzyrp/post/3lfvfm2febc2e?ref_src=embed Doesn't seem like Sony will be ending the generation with much momentum if this is true
Nag
It's a good job Gears and Halo are heading over there...😁
Maf
I guess we now know what game Alanah was writing for at Santa Monica Studio I could imagine a multiplayer mode for God of War where you and your friends team up and play horde mode or that rogue-lite mode people seemed to like would be a lot of fun. But a GAAS game just seems like kind of a reach. Unless it was a brand new game just with the God of War name
Maryokutai
So if both Bluepoint and Bend are now starting their next projects we're easily into PS6 launch window territory. Morale must be at an all-time high over there. Sony really is a bit of a shitshow at the moment, and I can imagine Spencer & Co. being rather pissed that Nadella gave up on Xbox because the next five years would have been their best shot to claw back some market shares since the Xbox One disaster. I'm not going to miss a GoW GAAS in the videogame landscape, to be clear, but the circumstances and both work hours and money spent on it, it's just such a waste. We're losing out on a lot of potentially good videogames from proficient studios due to this live service fad.
Snaggletooth
While i feel for the teamand having that hard work wasted. But I feel no loss at a cancellation of another GAAS title. How many jave to be cancelled before they stop green lighting them in the first place
one-armed dwarf
Well in order to stop greenlighting them games like Marvel Rivals, Diablo 4, Path of Exile 2, Helldivers 2 and Wuthering Waves would have to stop being so successful. Because when a game like that hits big, it might end up 'justifying' the failures on the balance sheet potentially. I think looking at the games is looking at the wrong problem here, what's fucked up is these corporations attitudes to labour and how they treat them like they're playing blackjack with their livelihoods.
