Bioshock, in the sky. woop woop!

Shown to press in New York last night, BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter set in 1912. It introduces a new narrative and gameplay experience that “lifts players out of the familiar confines” of Rapture and sets them in Columbia, an immense city in the sky.

Former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt has been sent to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned in Columbia since childhood. Booker develops a relationship with Elizabeth, “augmenting his abilities with hers” so the pair may escape the city which is literally falling from the sky.

DeWitt must learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engage in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities.

What a terrible idea.

Why, this looks absolutely awesome. I dont understand what people have issues with here, is it the Bioshock name? Fair enough ive only seen a trailer for it, but I dont see why this would be shit, unless of course you hate the genre. Not an attack on any comments here more what a lot of people are commenting on. With the flare for setting the atmosphere in a game that has been displayed in the last two Bioshock games I think this has real potential.

An underground city under the sea is semi plausible. This isn't. Might be a good game, but a flying city? That's JRPG territory. I find it hard to take any of that seriously.

Bioshock wasn't that grounded into reality to me so a floating city set within the same universe or whatever is fine and dandy.

I'm sure there will be some social commentary to the reason why it's floating, if there isn't than I'm sure someone will read so much into it to find a reason.

Yeah fair enonugh mate, its a bit of a stretch, but then again picking apart the realism in a game like Bioshock... Dunno theres a fair bit in there to take issue with.

well in science fiction theres always suspension of disbelief for sure, but there was logic behind building an underwater city - it couldnt be easily found. whereas no-one ever looks in the sky.. !!

but i guess my main problem is that it just seems like theyre milking it - they did system shock in space, then bioshock underwater (very similar games, fans of SS may claim they ARE the same game), now its another 'shock' game in the fucking air. it might play like a dream but i already played it - sans phileas fogg

i do agree mate, its just personal opinion and what you'll put up with/let slide - or even notice - changes from genre to genre, series to series. I guess one analogy would be its like when they do a sweet film, lots of mystique and unseen epicness and then they release a bunch more of them cos it does well and ruin the original vision and uniqueness(for some at least).

I think I would like a different name to seperate the different series' - VerticalShock maybe?

But as has been said, I've got faith in Irrational. Even still, Bioshock 2 was techinally a better game than the first and that wasn't the same team so I've got high hopes for this.

I see where you're coming from and you have a good point, but I just think there is plenty of room to move within the games style of story telling to say something different or relevant. If it is just Systemshock or Bioshock again then that will be a shame, I guess we'll see in 2012 if we're still breathing.
