Im stuck i currently have a N95 with uptodate firmwear and tbh works really well, its a bit battered but a well used phone, my free upgrade is due today so i can have a new phone, ive looked at the iphone and it feels too big for my pockets at work, but i do want to be able to surf the net while on the train, check my email, and forums a bit like this one!

So any recommendations?? i have spotted the blackberry storm which is a smaller iphone but that means changing contracts and i really don't want to go through the hassle of changing contracts, credits checks and all that stuff!!

last time i got a new phone I went instore, all the credit checks and that were done in about 15 minutes, the only thing that took any time was trying to get hold of my flatmate so i could get my account number from a bank statement. I think they can swap your number over too although I could be wrong with that.

I'm jealous though, I've still got 6 months left on my contract and my screens got a crack in it (and what looks like dust but i think its damage to the bit under the glass) :(

But the iphone is sooooo big! its not exactly portable, its like going back in time, i used have one of the early nokia's that was a wedge and a half in my pocket all day long.

Going to phone O2 this afternoon to see what they offer, i have spotted the Sony X1 looks like a cool phone and smaller than an iphone too.

Phones4U just called me, saying I can upgrade now, even though I don't think my contract officially ends until May. They asked me to pop in soon and they'll sort me out a deal with a new phone, but to be honest I think I'm going to go PAYG when my contract is up. I pay £35 a month on Orange (which I could lower, but I don't want to risk entering a new 18mth contract by doing so), and also get my Broadband half price (£10). If I go to PAYG, my internet will go up to £20, but I'll probably only put on around a tenner a month on my phone, thus saving more each month. I'm tempted by an iPhone, but I want to stay with Orange for my BB, so I'd end up spending more a month than I do currently.

its not really that big, plus its all screen (nearly) which makes it awesome for browsing, watching crap porn on youtube etc etc.

I think its the best phone on the market at the moment.

Well i phoned o2, none of the phones i was interested in are in stock or available, but i can upgrade and pay an extra £10 a month and get an iphone free, or if i call up next week i can get a re-conditioned iphone for free and on a £25 a month contract...worth thinking about, i have been assured that the screen will be as good as new

Not the 8gb they have claimed i could get a 16gb for no price!! as im a valued customer been on o2 for about 6 years, they get a new batch on the 21st so i need to call back then but im top of there list!

I wasn't going to get an iphone, but looking at the some if the games and music stuff means i can leave my DS and PSP at home, now all i need is ninty to give me Animal crossing on the iphone and im sorted!

I know everyone's sick of hearing about it, but it genuinely is the best phone I've ever had. Granted, I've never had a Blackberry or smart phone before, but it's still the best I've used.

I will give you some cons though.

Texts

You can't send out mass texts to people so you have to type the same thing over and over if you just want to wish people happy new year or whatever. No picture messaging, you can only email pics. Maybe you can bluetooth them too but I've never used the bluetooth thing on it.

On the flipside, the texts are displayed like an IM conversation where you can see all the previous texts from that person, which ends up getting very handy if someone argues that they never said a certain thing - "oh yeah? iPhone says otherwise."

Battery

The phone is closed so you can't get to your battery. I'm sure there's a way but I'm not hacking away at my phone. So, anything goes wrong with the phone and you have to send the whole thing off to Apple.

The battery life isn't great but has got much better with firmware updates, it just means I now permanently have a charger hooked up in my car to give it a quick boost. Truth is, it's only bad if you hammer the music and video player, the net, youtube clips, games, etc.

The fact that they can improve the phone with firmware updates, though, is mind-blowing. I've never had a phone that actively changed before.

Camera

The camera is rubbish, there's no way of getting round it.

The quality of the picture is really good but all you can do is take a picture. That's it.

No recording video, no daylight/night settings, no colour filters, no effects, no zoom.

You either take a picture as it appears or you don't.

Having said all that, I'm carrying round a solid portion of my music collection and a couple of videos. It's made Twitter, Facebook and MySpace, if you're into that, actually usable. Checking emails and websurfing on the move is brilliant. The App Store is a thing of beauty with tons of brilliant free apps that you will find so useful, and tons of games that I could recommend to you.

Plus, I get "unlimited" data transfer so I get my money's worth on my contract and absolutely hammer it.

I need a new phone. I've currently got a Sony Ericcson on that's a couple of years old (James Bond has it in Casino Royale :P, dunno what the model no. is ). I don't have a contract though, it's PAYG. Maybe I should get a contract, iPhones look lovely. :(

I'm on O2 so have that Switch Up thing. Yes it's a way to keep me eternally in a contract, but I can swap my phone out every three months, so I'm really not complaining.

Anyway, I've just 'Switched Up' from a Galaxy Flip 4 to a Fold 5 (I like gimmicks. Would rather have something that looks or does something interesting than the same classic pill-shaped phones everyone has.) I fucking adore this pone already. I was on the fence when I took out the contract, but every worry has gone out the window. Kindle books - great. Gaming, specifically Diablo Immortal - impeccable. Multi-tasking is awesome, and the way apps look on the internal tablet screen is just phenomenal.

I wanted to stick with flip phones for the foreseeable just because they take up less space in your pocket, but if Samsung can make a Fold as thin as the Honor Magic V, I'm fully invested in this concept.

My phone is the one area where I'm happy to spend a bit more. I'm always messing with it in some respect. I like seeing what the different tech does.

I was paying £51 with a 30GB contract on O2 and didn't need to pay a deposit. Now I pay £63 with the same amount of data. Rosie and I have both had a little bit extra coming in wagewise recently, too.

I know that's multiple layers of justification, but I'm also aware that £60+ is a LOT of money for a phone.

I'm on the same contract with Switch Up but haven't actually switched to anything yet, I'm planning on doing it for the first time in September/October when the new iPhone comes out but I'm a bit worried they won't take my old phone as it's a bit scratched (all surface level) as I've dropped it a few times. How did you do it, just walk into the Store, say you've got Switch Up and they sort it all out for you?

Just done the o2 switch up thing, have to send my current phone off within 2 weeks of getting my new one on/around the 22nd.

Went with the Natural Titanium 15 Pro, I did consider the Pro Max for awhile with the 5 x zoom, but not worth the added cost just for that I thought.

I may try out the new Samsung Ultra S24(?) next May or whenever it releases, give it 3 months or so, I do fancy a refresh sometime soon but its a ball ache being so ingrained into an ecosystem now.
