Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater

I wonder why they’re calling it Delta and starting the series again with a remake of 3. I don’t expect this to be a FF7 Remake/Rebirth type reinvention because they’re using so much of the original game. But I hope/wonder if there is some new story telling in the game. Even if it’s a different post credit stinger and they plan to set up MGS5 a bit more or something

I’ll still play it even if it is a straight remake because it looks good to me. My only thing is it seems a bit unambitious, and I hope there’s something more to it

Somewhere I said I don’t care about MGS anymore. It’s one of my top 5 series of all time but I don’t need anymore. That’s still true, but I am looking forward to YT and a bunch of people discovering this shit for the first time. You really don’t see games be this hardcore ridiculous, in depth and unique at this AAA level any more so there’s a bunch of people who just play God of War (new series) and The Last of Us and think that is prime video gaming.

They are not prepared for Big Boss

EDIT: I guess people did play MGS5 and Death Stranding but that ain’t it imo (even though I like both those games)

Some preview info about this today

Plays like MGS5 is hard to imagine. Maybe they just mean the controls (Which were still weird in MGS5 compared to most games but compared to MGS3 must feel really slick)

Still saying it’s a very faithful remake. Which is good and bad in my book.

There’s a quality 30fps and a performance 60fps mode, but the performance mode is 1080p. I’ve said many times but 1080p is a disappointment for modern screens. Shame it’s not 1440p. I’ll just play quality mode

Here's a trailer, we get a brief glimpse of characters talking. From what I see the old PS2 animation data isn't capable of showing the types of microexpressions you typically see in modern games and looks kinda strange with this level of fidelity

Between this and SH2, I definitely prefer the 'less faithful' SH2 bloober game as an approach for these remakes. Much easier to just look at it as a new take without these strangely limiting caveats

Yeah, completely agree. They move like cartoon characters with big but very simple expressions and body language. I guess on PS2 it wasn’t as realistic so it fit, and this still has a stylised look, but it’s not working. Characters look very awkward here in cinematics.

Konami say they are remaking Snake Eater cause younger generations barely know what Metal Gear is anymore

https://www.gamesradar.com/games/metal-gear/metal-gear-solid-delta-exists-because-konami-was-starting-to-get-worried-that-the-younger-generation-of-gamers-arent-familiar-with-the-metal-gear-series-anymore/

Interesting that all these 'legacy' type series are encountering this drop off with their audience aging out and younger people not caring. But while it seems like the approach for Silent Hill worked really well I still wonder about this game. I'd have done a remake of the MSX Metal Gear

I saw that Metal Gear guy in Smash Bros., I should check this game out.

It'll be interesting to observe though. SH did well, but the question remains among which audience. Did the Fortnite kids take their afternoon off to play a classic survival horror game, or was it just old heads and their friends, who had to endure decades of talking about it, after all.
