I've seen people being really positive on it, I'm not seeing why tbh. His origin seems to be that he's being bullied, rightly, for being a clown. Then nothing else happens in the trailer?

I'm sure he'll be good, he can definitely act, but I don't think it's a great trailer

Less about being bullied per say (everyone loves clowns, after all) and more like his smile/good nature is beaten out of him by Gotham itself. Plus midway through the trailer he seeming can't smile and the climax of the trailer being his descent into insanity that brings a new "smile" out.

I'll be watching that before Shazam, I can guarantee you of that.

sure, some kids nick his sign, they beat him up because he's a pussy, then I'm guessing his mum dies so he loses his smile, that's absolute shit. I can see why DC didn't ever settle on one origin for Joker, they're all going to be underwhelming. Hopefully the film is better than the trailer

Well 'The Killing Joke' gives him the origin of a failed stand up comedian who loses his wife and unborn child in an accident at a mall. Then falls into a vat of chemicals, then mentally snaps. The death isn't normally the trigger, it is a catalyst.

That Joker trailer looks great. Feels like a cross between Falling Down and The Machinist with enough of his Killing Joke origin story in there to be familiar without being an actual adaptation. Really looking forward to delving into the psychology of the man who will become (this version of) The Joker. I expect great things from Joaquin Phoenix, he's absolutely inspired casting for this movie.

Also that kid is Bruce Wayne. Calling it now.

I know that story, but it's not the canonical one true Joker story. I was just saying to someone else, a film where Joker tells multiple different people different origins would be pretty cool, probably more of an Animatrix though

Anyway, this is already taking comics far too seriously for my taste so I'll leave it at that

Split this out to stop the film thread from just turning into a comic book shop.

Looks alright to me, but I can’t get my head around an origin story for the Joker being what I would imagine is an older man than the character is once he becomes the Joker in the lore.

That movie is called The Dark Knight.

It's not really lore or canon to anything, it's a one shot/self contained story. It isn't tying into the greater DCEU at all, it just exists as its own entity, which I think is the better way to do something like one of The Jokers many, many origin stories. It has more room to be its own thing and doesn't have to worry about any kind of continuity.

Joker has three or four "canonical" origins. The Killing Joke and the Burton Batman Movie are among them. Plus he was always a thirty-something adult when he became what he is. One of the reasons Leto didn't work was he was too young and technically Nicholson was the oldest Joker. Although Romero Joker was of indeterminate age.

Talking well out of your arse there, mate. Leto was 44 when he played The Joker. By that logic Heath Ledger shouldn't have worked because he was only 28.

Also Nicholson was 51 and Romero played The Joker from ages 59 to 61.

Who gives a fuck about the actual actors? Visually (because what matters in a film is what you see, with your ? ) The Character looked too young. Couldn't care less about Jared Leto The Man, oddly enough that isn't who this thread, nor my comment was discussing.

I mean you clearly said Jared Leto was too young, not Jared Leto's character was too young but ok.

Also curious where you're getting these official character ages from, I'd love to see them because I can't find them anywhere.

Or do I need to dumb that down a bit further to offset lame attempts about being pedantic??
