Spidey will easily sail past $1BN, it should easily reach $1.5BN.

If we weren't in a pandemic it would've probably quite easily made $2BN.

I can't tell you how much you need to see this film in the cinema @Maf just go early in the morning or something and sit right on the end of a row.

Wooow Dr Strange 2 trailer

Scarlet Witch, America Chavez (Crazy but kind of makes sense), Shuma Gorath(!). Some of the visuals look stunning as well.

But again, Marvel characters fighting evil versions of themselves just went to the next level haha.

Looks awesome.

Saw Hawkeye E6. It’s ok. Enjoyable, because of it’s friendly nature so it’s fun, but trying to neatly tie up so many loose ends to lots of plot threads meant it was jumping from one thing to the other and felt very messy. A very messy end to a very messy show.

Spoiler

Seeing Kingpin in this was so weird, I’m not sure I liked it. On the one hand, much more like comic Kingpin. When he punches people they fly across the room, and his strength is clearly super human. Very much unlike the Daredevil show.

On the other hand I’m so used to him from DD, and in terms of acting they tried to bring a lot of that across, to have this familiar character fighting this way and being a version of himself which is incompatible with the old version while still recalling that, a weird mix and was out of place. Also they probably didn’t set him up well enough so even as a character in this show separate from anything previous he was weirdly singular and needed more reason to be there.

I heard someone say clearly this is not the Netflix Kingpin. Unless I missed something, I didn’t see anything that clearly proved or disproved that. I think they’re leaving it open to make their minds up later

It’s not the crap that Falcon and Winter Soldier was but is definitely 3rd place behind Wandavision and Loki.

Correct!

Spider-Man: No Way Home becomes first pandemic-era film to top $1bn

Quote

The latest instalment of the Spider-Man franchise has become the first pandemic-era movie to make more than $1bn (£750m) at the global box office.

Spider-Man: No Way Home also took the title of highest-grossing film of 2021.

It beat out Chinese-made Korean War epic The Battle of Lake Changjin, which has grossed more than $905m worldwide.

The last movie to gross more than $1bn was 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, according to media data analytics firm Comscore.

No other Hollywood production has come near to reaching that box office milestone since the pandemic began two years ago.

Over the weekend, global box office takings for the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film reached $1.05bn.

The co-production between Sony and Disney hit its milestone less than two weeks after its premiere even as the Omicron variant of Covid-19 has spread rapidly around the world, raising fresh concerns about indoor events.

The film has not been released in China, which is currently the world's biggest cinema market.

Spider-Man: No Way Home sees Tom Holland return as the third iteration of Peter Parker alongside Zendaya's MJ and Benedict Cumberbatch as the sorcerer Doctor Strange.

The franchise's 2019 offering Spider-Man: Far From Home was the first Spider-Man film to break the $1bn mark at the box office and is currently the highest-grossing movie in the franchise with $1.132bn in global ticket sales, according to Comscore.

The latest film follows on from Far From Home, in which the villainous Mysterio unmasked Parker before dying.

The series is a collaboration between the Disney's Marvel Studios and Sony.

In 2015, Disney, Marvel Studios, and Sony agreed to share the film rights for Spider-Man, which led to a new iteration of the character being introduced and integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Before No Way Home, MGM's latest James Bond movie No Time to Die, which made $774m at the box office globally, was the highest-grossing Hollywood film of both 2021 and the pandemic.

Really looking forward to this, there is nothing Marvel until May, so bit of a break (Unless the Groot holiday special is still to come out?)

Isn't American Chavez the multiverse jumper so makes massive sense to introduce her into this one, i was hoping it was Shuma Gorath but heard it might be Gargantos instead?

That Dr Strange trailer is disappointing from a Raimi fan perspective. The only shot that looked Samesque was the scene in the watch face. Hopefully it’s better than the trailer makes it seem.

Cucumber looks ridiculous tho. Like those people who have clearly gone gray but dye their hair darker than it ever was.

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally went and saw Spider-Man No Way Home last night. Holy fucking shit that was incredible!! Possibly best Marvel film yet, or if not it’s way up there. Loved it throughout. I’d avoided basically all media surrounding it too I’d heard rumours obviously

Spoiler

but I genuinely couldn’t believe they managed to get all those characters in 1 film. I thought at least one or 2 would be missing. Don’t know why but I find that more impressive than the End Game Ensemble. Possibly because they’re not actually from the recent MCU so I imagine it would have been harder work to get them in. And they did it so fucking my perfectly.

Mind blown, loved it so much.
