Half Life 3 (not) Confirmed

Cyberpunk

Recommended Posts

This post is rated PBS, for possibly bull shit. www.noshitshurlock.com have posted that after a six year wait, Half Life 3 has been confirmed. Allegedly, John Guthrie founder of Quake command and Half Life 1 and Half Life 2 level designer, has been speaking to the site, and has confirmed that the game will include many of the main characters from Half Life 2 and “the story continues where it left off”.

The game is currently under development and will be released on the Pc, Mac, Xbox One, Playstation 4, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. As of now we don’t know how far they are in development, but we expect the first demo and trailer to be released at E3 2014.

Quote

“I CAN’T CONFIRM ALL TOO MUCH SINCE THE DEVELOPMENT IS STILL IN EARLY STAGES, BUT FOR NOW I CAN CONFIRM THAT WE ARE GOING TO RELEASE ON BOTH CURRENT AND NEXT GENERATION CONSOLES AND WE WILL ALSO RELEASE THE GAME ON OUR OWN PLATFORM EXCLUSIVELY FOR PC AND MAC.” JOHN GUTHRIE WRITES “WE HOPE TO HAVE THE FIRST TRAILER READY FOR E3 2014, WHICH WE (AFTER SEVERAL TIMES NOT ATTENDING) WILL FINALLY COME BACK TO”

Valve decided to not make a Half Life 2 Episode 3 because the story will vary a little bit from the original, all though it will include many of the main characters. The new game mechanics, improved game engine and next gen console’s led Valve to creating Half Life 3.

John Guthrie has also confirmed that there will be no multi-player or co-op. The game will be purely Single player based.

Whereas I'm sure it's in development, this has been called fake by a Half-Life writer.

Not Confirmed

Following yesterday's bombshell news that Valve could be developing a new Half-Life game, Valve expert Tyler McVicker has stepped forward to say he too believes it's true.

Codenamed "HLX", McVicker asserts the new game "seems to be a fully-fledged non-VR Half-Life game, something that seems too good to be true".

Quote

"Half-Life Alyx was announced almost five year ago, and fully released over four and, as it turns out, that entire time has been spent developing the next major single-player title, codenamed HLX. And now – thanks to a screw up by one of the voice actors on the project – we now know the internal codename that Valve uses to hide the real project name whilst casting voice actors is called Project White Sands."

Basically, a data miner and a voice actor's resume have both led to suggestions there's something Half-Life related on the way.

I'm not holding my breath considering it's been 10 years since the last update in here

Well, Alyx has a statement of intent in it which sounds like they found a way to re-invigorate their interest in doing more

full spoilers

Spoiler

With G-Man creating a time paradox to save Alyx's father, but then in exchange making her his new new 'hire' and putting her in stasis like Gordon in HL1. Setting up a Gordon sequel to Episode 2 with Eli, now alive, riding shotgun to save her

Man, the ending to Alyx is so cool. Really has to be experienced in VR I think to see how cool it is.

@Cyberpunk edit this thread title to something less cruel 👎

  • DANGERMAN changed the title to Half Life 3 (not) Confirmed

More on this, a collection of leaks and data mining over the years pointing to 'HLX', the codename for the next HL project as a lot of it is work performed after Alyx's release. It is probably set in Xen and probably has open world design. Vehicles are part of the game design, so I guess following up on the highway 17 stuff

It has an even bigger and all encompassing focus on physics and gravity that go beyond what HL2 did, and much more reactive NPCs. It is probably not a VR game

There's definitely enough evidence here to suggest that they're working on something. The question that remains is whether or not that something will take shape and be released as a game. But this is the year that got a new teaser for BG&E2, so I'm fully onboard for HL3 as well.
