I've seen a list that says they're closing both the Games in Manchester city centre, probably sensible as both were A. shit and B. empty. They're keeping the worlds smallest Gamestation though, which makes sense in terms of overheads, but could really do with being bigger

Im surprised the Gamestation in Birmingham has gone, gutted tbh, it used to be an awesome store as someone above said, demo pods and all sorts of magical gems. Out of the 3 stores in brum i would still say Gamestation was the better out of the 3, Games other 2 stores where and are shocking, now we just have the bullring one which you have to fight to get into on a weekend. Online only for me the way forward now.

http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/games/894208-d-day-for-game-as-rbs-rumours-gain-pace

UK retailer GAME Group, which also owns the Gamestation chain of stores, is set to officially enter administration today - and it does without having found any buyer for its business. Comet owner OpCapita and retail investor Hilco both apparently gave up their interest in the company over the weekend, with GAME now facing total collapse unless a last minute buyer is found.

According to The Telegraph though RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland) is interested in making an offer, but won't do so until it enters administration today - at which point it can pick and choose the assets it wants at rock bottom prices.

RBS are one of the key lenders that got GAME into its current predicament (banks, don't you just love 'em?) and according to The Telegraph were also the ones that blocked OpCapita's bid over the weekend - apparently so they could keep GAME for themselves.

Although they'd actually be leading a consortium of other investors, if RBS are successful it'd technically mean that GAME would become a state-owned business - since taxpayers had to bail out RBS during the financial crisis and still own a majority stake in the bank.

Trade paper MCV suggests that American retailer GameStop is also waiting for the company to enter administration over the next few hours, but its primary interested has only ever seemed to be GAME's Spanish chain of stores.

'GAME is likely to go into administration on Monday and the process of selling its assets will begin but this won’t be a pre-pack, where a company is bought immediately out of administration,' a source told MCV.

'There was contact between the banks and OpCapita late on Friday in the hope of reviving some sort of deal. The banks felt that selling GAME out of administration would leave them facing a colossal write down on what they invested.'

But, in the end, they decided there wasn’t enough value in what OpCapita were offering. It wasn’t anywhere near 100p in the pound.'

Although RSB's exact intentions are not clear, if GameStop or another company make a move for GAME they're likely only to save the best performing locations and certainly not every store in towns with two or three different GAME and Gamestation outlets.

On Wednesday the two most likely scenarios were that GAME would go into administration today and either all the Gamestation stores would be closed down immediately, or all or most GAME stores as well.

Nothing over the weekend seems to have changed this and thousands of employees across the country still seem to be in the dark as to what is going on. We'll certainly have more updates throughout the day though, as we learn more.

The whole RBS blocking the sale is a pretty interesting development I think. I find it pretty amusing that if they do buy the assets of GAME, then a shop on the highstreet becomes owned by the tax payer. I totally wouldn't have seen that one coming.

http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/games/894366-irish-game-stores-start-sit-in-protest-list-of-closures-confirmed

Yesterday staff from 13 of GAME's Irish stores threatened a sit-in protest over unpaid redundancies, and now several have made good on that threat.

Ben Lamb O'Sullivan has been updating his Facebook page from the Monaghan branch, where former staff have been protesting that they were not giving the required 30 days notice before being made redundant.

'Just had an administrator at our door, ain't getting our keys! It's all official now!' says one Facebook update from O'Sullivan.

Other staff in Ireland and beyond have also started to complain that administrators PwC intend to pay them only their standard March wages, with nothing extra for their notice period or any redundancy compensation.

PwC has now confirmed that 277 GAME and Gamestation stores have been closed in the UK and Ireland, from a total of 610 last week. Around 2,104 people are believed to have been made redundant as a result

Getting messy in Ireland.

The thing is, is it enough to help Game survive, i get the feeling it will be gone very soon. Its a pity Tesco doesn't pick it up would be great to actually have a decent selection in all our stores and clubcard points!

Wasn't sure which shop in Chester was closed as there's GAME and Gamestation both on the same street, but it's the GS that's closed.

Staff in Game seemed ok, they tried to be polite to the people in there moaning about their reward cards, which is a petty thing considering their jobs are up in the air, but those customers probably don't realise that.

Seemed very barren in there. Good luck, TGK :(

In Bath its the Game thats closed, which is odd as it had only recently relocated to the new shopping bit at the bottom whilst the Gamestation thats stayed open is in the less popular part of town. Given the sort of place Bath is, Id have thought Game would be the better for the mums to go in rather than Gamestation, but im sure there was reasoning to it, sales and ting. The girl in there seemed as inconvenienced to be serving me as she usually does though, so some things dont change.

yeah that was tough, i felt really sorry for people with a lot of money on a card but not so much for the staggering amount of people complaining about their 2.50 whilst our jobs were on the line. hard to remain polite, but i managed it

http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/games/894627-game-reward-cards-reactivated

The use of reward and gifts cards at GAME was suspended when the company went into administration on Monday. As soon as it did hundreds of stores were closed and thousands of jobs were lost.

Things are looking increasingly brighter for those stores that remain though, with current rumours suggesting the company could be brought out of administration tomorrow, following the acceptance of a buyout from RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland).

Although other sources claim that a counter offer from the owner of Comet is also being considered.

That's all still just rumour at the moment, but reactivating reward cards is definitely happening, according to Twitter posts from GAME themselves.

'Reward Card Update 1: Your Reward Cards have now been reactivated by the Administrators for redemption against pre-owned stock,' said the first post.

'Reward Card Update 2: This means that points can be earned on all products AND redeemed against pre-owned items as of now,' added the second.

What's also encouraging is that the use of reward cards is also now mentioned on GAME's website. The site still isn't open for business but again this seems a positive sign that it might be returning soon.

Looks like you get a second chance of getting rid of those points if you have not already.

http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/games/894590-game-out-of-administration-by-tomorrow-claim-sources

UK retailer GAME could be out of administration by tomorrow according to the latest industry rumours, with the bid led by former lender RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland) looking the most likely to be accepted.

GAME officially went into administration on Monday, at which point 277 GAME and Gamestation stores were immediately closed and around 2,000 people made redundant. There's now seems no way those stores can be saved, but the future of the remaining 333 is looking a lot brighter than earlier in the week.

According to 'multiple sources' speaking to website MCV the deal by RBS is very close to being accepted by administrators, rather than alternative offers from US chain GameStop and Comet owners OpCapita.

Nothing official has been announced yet though and even if the rumours are true the deal could still fall through. RBS were a former lender to GAME and their refusal to grant more favourable credit insurance precipitated the company's downfall.

That in itself isn't controversial, given GAME's shaky financial ground at the time, but insiders have suggested that RBS blocked a bid of OpCapita that would've saved all of GAME's workforce. If that's ever proven true then the political fallout could be considerable.

The assumption now is that if RBS's deal goes through it will look to reorganise and rebrand GAME and Gamestation with fewer stores around the country. Publishers are already calling for the chain to diversify and model itself more on Apple stores than the old second-hand obsessed model.

Things could be looking up.

That's a good sign.

If they do end up re-branding there are a few things i'd like to see from a new GAME:

- Way more focus on new games and better deals to compete with the online market. A reward scheme is not enough any more.

- Cheaper pre-owned titles, e.g. if a new game is £40, then the pre-owned equivalent should be more in the region of £30 - £32.

- Way less focus on the whole sales patter and a less aggressive up-sell when buying.

- Bring back the awesome returns policy you had. I used to be much more likely to buy games knowing that if they were shite I could just return them for a refund. 9 times out of 10 i'd just keep hold of it anyway unless it was a real turkey. The system would just need revising and policing a bit better to stop people taking the piss, but it could be done.

- Stop worrying so much about stats and shop traffic to sales ratios etc. and just concentrate more on the actual games themselves.

and, most importantly:

- Organise your damn shelves (especially the pre-owned sections) so the spines face outwards unless every copy behind the front facing boxes are identical. It annoys me no end thumbing through boxes to see what's behind ;)
