I might give it a go tomorrow @one-armed dwarf ta, not sure how it’ll effect performance though. I turned off film grain, motion blur and screen space reflections and am getting much better performance now, still some dips but nowhere near as bad or frequent as yesterday. So yeah, played another 3 hours today and made some good progress. Did all of the maintenance sector and picked up the Shield and Dash abilities which are cool. Combat definitely feels better now, I’ve got more options and feel much more agile, I’m able to be way more aggressive in dealing with enemies than I was before. The story has got much better now with Jesse I kind of know the structure of the game now, I assume I’m gonna go to a new sector, cleanse it and possibly fight a boss and then go back and see Pope for my next objective. Using the keycards I’ve received in the meantime to go back and explore previously inaccessible areas. Also a brief mention on the Janitor, he’s great. So yeah, I like it, today it possibly grew on me a little more and I can’t wait to get back to play it tomorrow which is obviously a good sign. Lots of pics:

  4. Right yeah I kind of get what you mean about Stadia now @DANGERMAN but yeah, speaking for myself I wouldn’t buy something on there even that I already own. The only platform I’d so that for is Switch really. The EGS version of Civ 6 doesn’t have the Switch cross save feature? I’ve honestly no idea. But yeah, fair enough, I personally boot only the launcher for the game I wanna play when I turn on my PC but I get where you’re coming from, Steam is the most popular for many folks and most likely to get booted upon launch.
  5. I watched the GoT SoP live on YT and the quality was fucking awful and it didn’t run particularly well. I’m watching the PS5 Event on Twitch as a result.

    Random News II

Related to my previous post. I will definitely be buying P3 if this is true, always wanted to play it.
  7. I don’t get the Stadia bit but true enough about Switch. I don’t understand the double dip on the same platform though. I won’t say anymore, it’s Kyle’s money at the end of the day.
  8. Paying for a game you already own just so you can have it on your favourite launcher wouldn’t be something I’d ever do but fair enough.

Started this today, put 3 hours in. It’s definitely weird that’s for sure, I expected weird and the game has definitely delivered in spades so far. I do like the setup of the story. Being thrown into this weird building with lots of weird stuff going on but at the same time this building is super cool and relatable if you’ve watched pretty much any cop shows over the years. This building by all intents and purposes should be a mega boring office building but it isn’t at all, I really like how there’s no modern tech in there and how they justify it through the lore. The combat is ok. So far I’ve not really unlocked any abilities, I’ve got the gun and the launch ability and that’s pretty much it. So yeah, it feels serviceable at the moment but fun enough to satiate me, feels very similar to Quantum Break. You can’t help but be intrigued by the Oldest House itself and the story, it kind of pulls you in in the middle of a big mystery and asks you to figure everything out. I do worry the later I get into it the weirdness is gonna go over my head like with Alan Wake and I’ll just end up going ‘what the fuck was that?’ I will say though that I still find Remedy put too many written lore files into their game, they did this way back with Alan Wake and still do so now, it gets annoying having to read so much stuff to get all the lore in 2020. Playing on PC the performance hasn’t been too bad. I’m getting almost constant dips from 60FPS at Medium settings but as this is such an intensive game I expected worse to be honest. I’m gonna try putting some stuff down to low tomorrow to try to bump up the FPS a little. So yeah, a promising start. We’ll see how it goes from here on in.

  12. Think I’ve put another 6 hours into this since my previous post, 16 total. I’m up to Chapter 6. I still don’t really know what to make of it overall. I am enjoying it for sure but there’s just something there that doesn’t exactly make me jump at the chance to play it every day. I really enjoyed the Bionis Leg portion of the game. I spent quite a large amount of that last 6 hours just doing this side quests, they are utter shite but as soon as you put that ! on the map I’ve just gotta do them. The rewards and XP you get from them seem worthwhile too. I really enjoyed the first proper dungeon in the Ether Mine as well. I initially thought it would just be a boring cave system but it was so much more than that, I enjoyed navigating the areas via the vent fans too, thought this form of transport was a neat little touch. The story has gotten much better too, with some big revelations at the end of the Ether Mine. I do really like the story setup, it’s like a little drip feed of mysteries with you finding out more every few chapters or so, enabling you to gradually get a clearer view of what’s going on as you make progress through the game. The villains don’t seem great to me so far, they seem very comic book and one-note but it’s early days still I know. There is definitely enough there to keep me engaged and intrigued though. But yeah, there’s just something about the world and characters that still aren’t connecting with me. I do now like the combat and I enjoy the exploration side of the game but the other aspects are still lacking a bit for me.
  13. Finished this on Friday, think it took me just over 4 hours to clock it in the end. Surprisingly, I actually ended up loving this in the end. That opening Chapter turned out to be a needlessly long introduction to the game where not much happens, once I got to Chapter 2 things picked up immediately. It really is the grotesque monsters that make up the game. Being introduced to this creepy creature with his long gangly arms in Chapter 2 and having this tense game of cat and mouse around these intricately designed levels was just great. The design of the monsters just can’t help but creep you out a bit, they’re never scary but do make your skin crawl a bit at how grotesque they really are. This formula continues into the next chapter with the equally grostesque Chef Twins in the Kitchen but then things take a turn for weirder in the next chapter where you’re introduced to the many guests of this vile ship. This section still plays out similarly to the previous but this time many of the vile bastards chase you about rather than just one. The levels just have so much character and charm to them you can’t help but love their design, clambering around Kitchen utensils like a bizarre version of Ratatouille or dodging gluttonous monsters forging themselves in a Japanese inspired area, they’re just so distinct and memorable. I just love how the game makes you feel really small up against these giants too. You really do feel like a Borrower or something scurrying up bookcases or shambling across shelves or table clothes. These sections are really tense too, the atmosphere, sound design and music all culminate to have you on the edge of your seat. There are some really cool chase sequences which set the pulse rate going at the end of almost every chapter too which are a nice touch. So yeah, a really memorable, distinct and very enjoyable little game. Can’t recommend it enough. Lots of pics:
