  1. Last Day Of June (PC) Lair Of The Clockwork God (PC) Mutazione (PC) Horace (PC) Gris (PC) Yakuza Kiwami 2 (PC) Yakuza Kiwami 2: The Majima Saga (PC) Rakuen (PC) Supraland (PC) Super Arcade Racing (PC) Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King (PC) Deliver Us The Moon (PC) The Haunted Island, a Frog Detective Game (PC) Frog Detective 2: The Case of the Invisible Wizard (PC) A pair of short (about 1 hour each) little narrative games I picked up in the Steam summer sale. They're not difficult or complicated: you go to an area and talk to all the people, get them the thing they need to get the item someone else needs, until you've solved the mystery and everyone has a party. It's cute and silly and well written, it's all about enjoying the humour and having a nice time. The soundtrack of both games are great, too. The end hints at another game in the works, and I'm totally here for it.
  2. Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Taskmaster are very re-watchable. I'll watch formulaic crime procedurals over and over when I could be watching other things (Monk, Psych, Elementary, Criminal Minds, Bones etc.) No need to seek those out, they're always on somewhere. I've watched Straight Story loads of times, it's so still and calming. In recent years I've watched Hunt For The Wilderpeople a few times, and never grow tired of it. In the last month or so I've watched season 2 of What We Do In The Shadows twice, with a re-watch of the first season and the film in between.

Last Day Of June (PC) Lair Of The Clockwork God (PC) Mutazione (PC) Horace (PC) Gris (PC) Yakuza Kiwami 2 (PC) Yakuza Kiwami 2: The Majima Saga (PC) Rakuen (PC) Supraland (PC) Super Arcade Racing (PC) Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King (PC) Deliver Us The Moon (PC) Enjoyable sci-fi narrative adventure game. I played it via Game Pass, highly recommended.
  4. Finished it in 3 sittings. On my previous session I ended just before a stealth section, which was probably the weakest part of the game. Fortunately there was only that one section and it wasn't long. Other than that it was a great little game. Well worth a go if you've got Game Pass.
  5. I just found out there's a second season of Joe Pera Talks With You on All4
  6. This makes me laugh. It seems so unneccessary. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01C6XAO7M/
  7. I started playing this last night, via Game Pass. I reached the surface of the moon before calling it a day. The section before that on the empty space station was great, very atmospheric. The pacing has been good, discovering little bits of the story between the not-too-taxing puzzles. Thumbs up so far.
  8. I looks good. I've enjoyed 2019 a lot, but I don't really need one of these every year.
  9. Last Day Of June (PC) Lair Of The Clockwork God (PC) Mutazione (PC) Horace (PC) Gris (PC) Yakuza Kiwami 2 (PC) Yakuza Kiwami 2: The Majima Saga (PC) Rakuen (PC) Supraland (PC) Super Arcade Racing (PC) Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King (PC) Cute 2D Zelda-alike, which I think is also on Switch. The story is delivered as a grandfather telling a story to his two grandchildren, with them interjecting into the narration as you play, which was quite a nice touch. The 2D sprites and tileset are nice and varied, and look very good. It's not particularly challenging, but was an enjoyable way to spend 10-12 hours.
  10. Last Day Of June (PC) Lair Of The Clockwork God (PC) Mutazione (PC) Horace (PC) Gris (PC) Yakuza Kiwami 2 (PC) Yakuza Kiwami 2: The Majima Saga (PC) Rakuen (PC) Supraland (PC) Super Arcade Racing (PC) A simple but fun top-down 16-bit style 2D racer in the tradition of Super Cars, Max Rally, Micro Machines etc. I picked it up in the Steam sale for £2.78. The pixel art is really good, with a ton of car bodies to choose from, and it felt great to play.
  11. I found Bangkok really tough to start with, there seemed to be a lot of enforcers around. I think I broke into the musician's wing of the hotel via an open office window and stumbled onto the birthday cake mission story. Getting familiar with the basement/service areas was really useful too.
  12. You can perfect a stage with default equipment, the unlocks are for fun or specific challenges. To get the SA/5 star rating you can't be spotted (so no getting caught trespassing, or witnessed killing anyone, and if seen on camera you should delete the footage). Any non target kill will reduce your ranking, as will found bodies, so hide any person killed or knocked out.

Wow, I hate that art. I enjoyed Rogue Legacy for a little while, but very rapidly cooled on it. I think I only beat 2 bosses before I gave up.
  14. Last Day Of June (PC) Lair Of The Clockwork God (PC) Mutazione (PC) Horace (PC) Gris (PC) Yakuza Kiwami 2 (PC) Yakuza Kiwami 2: The Majima Saga (PC) Rakuen (PC) Supraland (PC) A cute and inventive first-person metroidvania game set in fantasy world in a child's sandbox. The developer cites Zelda, Metroid and Portal as influences. It's clever and funny and enjoyable to play. I finished it in about 19 hours (I didn't go for 100% completion). I got slowed down by a couple of slightly obtuse puzzles, which usually just turned out to be I hadn't found something in that area needed to solve the puzzle.

    Supraland

Supraland is a charming first-person metroidvania set in a child's sandbox, almost entirely the work of a single developer. You play as a red toy person who's village water supply appears to have been sabotaged by the blues on the other side of the sandbox. Your job is to find out what happened and get the water back. The game looks really nice, with lots of oversized human items making up the landscape. It's funny and fun to play, the powers you gain are interesting and have multiple uses, the more you gain, the easier and more enjoyable backtracking through the area and looking for secrets becomes. The puzzles are quite inventive and it's usually clear what you need to do, I only found a couple of them a little obtuse. The combat feels a little tacked on and repetitive, only really serving as a way of gaining coins for upgrades. I think it's currently PC only, both this and a sequel are apparently console-bound soon.
  16. Midnight Special - A science fiction/road trip thriller. A father on the run from a weird religious cult and the CIA with his son who is in possession of weird powers that both groups want to get hold of. It's really visually great without bombarding you with special effects and interesting narrative without spoon-feeding you the plot.
  17. Fantastic track and video. The new album is currently free to download on their website. This is still one of my favourites:
  18. "Get a load of hot dog fingers" ?
  19. I softmodded my original Xbox. I installed XBMC and added a larger HDD, and ripped most of my game discs to it. I can't remember exactly how it was done now. The softmod used a copy of Splinter Cell and modified save game IIRC, but I think I had to telnet into the xbox from my PC to clone the HDD? I did install the homebrew channel on the Wii, but I don't think I did very much with it. It was well past the life of the console by then.

    Stray

That's a great looking video. It's coming to steam too, so I'll be keeping an eye on this.
  24. I like the style of visuals a lot. For some reason I had it in my head that this was a multiplayer thing, but this looks a lot more like my cup of tea.
