  1. Past hour
  2. I still want to play FF16, but won’t be for a week or so. I’ve got 2 other games I want to finish first and I got about 9 hours in to Fallout 76 over the weekend. Really enjoying it and want to play more So still want to play FF16, but going to be a bit delayed
  3. On Amazon for limited time deal. Includes exclusive comic book skins https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sonic-Superstars-Playstation-Comic-Character/dp/B0C7RFFCHZ/

  5. I was never intending to do this, or even play the games back to back on my franchise run, but since I'm becoming a bit 'pixel blind' in my rather enjoyable playthru of FF6, I've decided to open up FF16 as a side game, then letting it take over when I've dealt with the pesky clown boy Kefka. Madness, you say? Perhaps. But it's basically an action game (I tested half an hour when I bought it) and so a completely different experience from 6 so it's what I'd normally do to keep a playthru of a long game like FF 6 fresh. Join in if you have the inclination.

    TV Shows

Still don't really know whether to use this topic or the Streaming one, but I've watched the first four episodes of Sugar over the weekend and I think it's pretty good. It's a story about a private detective looking for a missing girl, so as run-of-the-mill as you can get, but it mixes in a couple of different things to spice it up in its own way. The main character, played by Colin Farrel, is a big movie fan so occasionally there's scenes from classic detective films being cut in to mimic what he's doing. It's a purely visual gimmick, but pretty funny. And while it takes place in modern day, the overall vibe and feel is very 60s/70s, so whenever someone takes out a smartphone it feels like an anachronism even if it isn't one, which has to be a deliberate choice. Visually it's an incredibly beautiful production IMO, especially in the way it uses and accentuates colour. And a few episodes in it introduces a whole new thing that reminded me a bit of John Wick lore, without giving too much away. Also has a cute dog and a great opening animation. I realised too late they're doing this weekly release nonsense so I have to wait another three weeks to see the rest. It's an AppleTV thing though, so probably unlikely to appear anywhere else.
  8. I was running around a bit aimlessly during that part, too, but because the world size is manageable I think it's not too bad to just visit every dot on the map to see what happens. Unless you don't have the means to do that yet, but if so the game should still be leading you gentle towards that goal. I ran into one of these nonsense JRPG bosses yesterday who casts the most powerful spell when he dies, which annihilated my party. No amount of Reflect or Shell worked, so I tried But that was one hell of an annoying dungeon and boss. Side note: that Minervia Bustier (armour piece) I found is utterly broken. You can equip it to Terra and Celes and they're borderline immortal because is gives complete immunity towards most elements. And I'm absolutely fine with that.

  10. I have to admit I'm completely stuck at the mo. I'm talking to every available NPC but I'm just not getting any clues on how to proceed. I'm not willing to use a guide to progress so I'll do another run around the surface area currently available to me and see if I've missed something. There's a hint of Cyan being in Maranda, but fuck knows where that is. Hey, this is old school rpg-ing and I'm not blaming the game.

    Fallout 4

is it actually a better game now, because I thought it was crushingly dull when it came out. In hindsight they were probably trying to get to Fallout 76, but the halfway house that Fallout 4 is absolutely ruined it for me. I genuinely enjoyed what I played of 76 more. (not to be too negative 😅 )
  12. Downloaded the PS5 version today, and save file transfers from PS4 version.
  13. In strange coincidence, this was the most recent Speedrun ala ESA. I left it a few days before posting. Naturally, All forumites still currently playing along: Do Not Watch (yet). Glitches aren't really used but exploits are.

    Harold Halibut

I started this on PC but it had terrible stutter for me. It got better once turning DLSS off, but still there a bit. Also this game is clearly built around controller as the mouse doesn’t work, even in menus. I also had a weird glitch where Harold walked through a wall and got stuck and I had to turn the game on/off So now downloading on Xbox instead. As far as I read that version is fine, so On the positive side the look, voice acting, presentation and the slight weirdness of it is really striking and I like it. I’m expecting this game will look even better in HDR as well

    The Hot Topic Returns

Like I said, it's something I didn't pay attention to well into owning a PS3. Being informed of it retroactively. There is a moment (or two) in the Classic Mega Man games. Wherein too many enemies/sprites on the screen causes slow down. I just assumed back then, that was what was supposed to be happening. I do still remember all that PAL vs. NTSC shite they fed us for years. Chiefly because it was deemed as an excuse for more than a few games not being released here.
  16. The other day tho you were posting images of how Castlevania 'should be' played. They were fucking us over for years with way slower versions of games with fucked up aspect ratios. Tekken slowed down by 16.6 percent, we also got a terrible version of Devil May Cry Good and bad with this generation of games. I think I prefer playing PS2 games now than back then, cause I can work around all that bullshit at least and get the proper version. (vid comparing 50 and 60hz)

    The Hot Topic Returns

I didn't even acknowledge stuff like that until fairly recent times. Listening to YouTube videos of people referencing i-frames, bit rates, slow down etc I just used to play the game, however it was presented.

    The Hot Topic Returns

I remember when I first got one I was unduly pissed off after being used to 60hz fullscreen Dreamcast games and then having to go to 50hz letterbox format with the PS2... I got over it eventually though.😂

    The Hot Topic Returns

They all grew too comfortable. Sony took risks with PSOne and 2 to make a name for themselves. From PS3 onwards, they didn't need to push the envelope anymore. Especially when their direct competitor was similarly playing it safe. Sega and Nintendo treated each other like rivals. Pushing each other to innovate. No one is like that now.
  20. I'm not sure if it was inherent to the PS2 itself, or just the time period, because you could say the same about the DS, and to a lesser extent the Dreamcast, although not to the same volume, but you could find anything on it. It had the likes of GTA, Gran Turismo, Medal of Honour back when that was the console fps the Lynx wearers played, but it also had ports of Metal Slug, 2d fighters, shmups, jrpgs, survival horror, sports games, puzzle games, licensed games (some of them were even really good), you had Okami, Yakuza, Devil May Cry, Silent Hill, insane stuff like Freak Out and Katamari, Fahrenheit. By rights Ico and Shadow of the Colossus shouldn't exist, but they do, and they wouldn't have appeared on another console, they couldn't have done Maybe it's because it was easy and cheap to develop for, with an insanely huge market, and that market bought games, but it seemed like the perfect storm to get the sort of variety we've never seen before, or since really. The PS4 is probably the closest we've come since

    The Hot Topic Returns

We had both the Fat PS2 and I later bought the Slim for myself. Oddly enough, never played/owned a Rachet, Sly or Jak game.

    Final Fantasy VI

I mean Sap is a status condition in older FF's . A Remedy is the cure for it. However, Sap isn't in this game. Aside from afflicting the enemies on Celes' island. So you would only know what to do if you were going into the sixth game in the series, with acquired knowledge from the previous five. Older RPG's did not hold your hand in any way.
  23. That console is a feckin legend. I'm glad it was my introduction to gaming - Resi 4, San Andreas, Ico, Shadow of the colossus, Prince of Persia, Ratchet, FF 10, 12, God of War, Jak, Okami... List goes on and on.
  24. That sort of nonsense is why I'll never have these older games in my favourites list. I mean, how are you supposed to know that? Guide book, I suppose. I'm glad gamers got wise to that scam.
  25. Thanks, yeah that's what I thought. Just checking
  26. Maf - don't you have a 4090? if so yeah don't use any radeon graphics options
  27. Not 100% sure, still working out a lot of new stuff myself, but to me looking at those options they appear to be options which you should be able to switch on if you need at any in game graphics / performance menus. I didn't bother installing the Radeon software just the driver so no additional menus at all here.
  28. Since my GPU is handling graphics, does any of these CPU options matter? I'm guessing no
