    Metroid: Dread

Just thinking about this since I’ve been playing Hollow Knight. This is going to have to be something really fucking special to warrant full price, or near enough full price. Seen it for £35 which isnt as bad but still mental when you think about it. The Metroidvania scene is very crowded and moved on a bit since they last did a proper 2D one of these and just about all of them are the downloadable at less than £20, most are now under £10 or free if you’ve got Xbox. Theres the Ori games, Axiom Verge, Hollow Knight, Bloodstained, Guacamelee, the recent Shantae games, probably loads more I’m not thinking about. All of them look significantly better than this too. IMO of course but I bet most would struggle to say otherwise. Not like they’re cut down experiences too. As usual just seems Nintendo are taking piss. & yea I know I’ve ordered the £80 version. But that’s only because I know I’ll be able to sell it on to some schmuck for £100+ or at least the same price when I’m done so it’ll be free or profitable for me.
  2. Load of bollocks ?. Maybe if you’re a sadist. I’ve googled and watched some videos it’s all basically (not sure if counted as spoilers) after the main exploration stuff is done. The real Hollow Knight was the discovery and exploration while being challenged throughout. Anyway I’ve done the 2nd ending, beat all the revenge bosses and did the extra areas - wasn’t expecting the White Palace to go all Mario mixed with Super Meat Boy. Enjoyed that, Bastard hard too but actually handled it pretty well showing how right the devs got the feel of everything in this. Im done now though. I’ve googled the rest of it and it doesn’t appeal due to what it is, plus it’s just meant to be cruel with how hard it is. I’ve tried the version of the end boss too and fuck that shit. Getting thrown into that straight after the main boss and with how hard and resilient it is. Nope. Ive seen credits twice and got about 30 hours of pure enjoyment out of it. That’s more than enough for me. Ended up at about 86% complete in end.
  3. Completed, 23 hours (wow, wasn’t expecting it to be that long when I started it) and 65% complete. Absolutely fantastic game. But most of you know this already. 9/10 I understand there’s multiple endings so might go back and knock a few more percentage off and try and get some more. There was 1 boss I know about who I ended up leaving due to basically not being strong enough when I first challenged them So that’s where I’ll start. Some black barriers I couldn’t get by either so hoping defeating her will give me the ability to get by them and open even more areas up.

    Cyberpunk 2077

I’ll be interested in giving it a go when it’s got a native XSX and PS5 update out. Hopefully some of those patches inbetween make it better too.
  5. Yea that’s really interesting. Never thought of that for some reason but of course development for that game on S/X would have had to start before they were released. Basically giving your rival company your specs on a plate & trusting them not to leak it. Guess it must have been too late for Sony to alter the PS5 design and spec by that point but still mad when you think about it.
  6. Flying enemies can get fucked. In all games.
  7. That’s because FFXV is shit. Personally the 360 is one of my favourite ever consoles. I thought that gen was pretty damn great. Wii excluded of course. Lots of brown shooters too but there’s always a trend that takes off in every generation I hate. Such as everything being a open world or service game these days. Still plenty of awesome shit there though.
  8. The Wii instrument thing. Haha that was pretty fucking terrible. My memory is terrible so not sure yet but mine might be the same one. Man the whole Wii time was fucking shit. Think I’d take the current mtx and service game heavy industry over going back to that shit.
  9. Yea you should, problem is I bet both are incredibly difficult to go back to once you’ve been a way a while. They’re built on learning enemy patterns and knowing your way around. You’d probably need to start them again. But I’d say they’re both good enough to do so. Just got the Down ability and reaching some more difficult areas where enemies are taking a few more hits, luckily just found the shop to upgrade my nail. Twice. Excellent timing. That’ll do nicely!

    Vanquish

Oh hell yea it is. I completed it loads of times. Once you click with it and get into its groove it’s unmatched.
  11. Fresh hot take, this is bloody great!
  12. That appears to have worked. Did that and been on it a good hour since and no longer slowing right down. Thanks a lot!!
  13. Any Photoshop experts here? My partner is doing some work on Photoshop and keep having a issue whereby when she’s used it for 30 minutes it slows to a crawl. We’ve found it keeps using about 200gb of temporary files which is basically filling the remainder of the Hard drive causing it to slow down. Whenever we empty the temp files it sorts it. Is there anything we can do to stop it doing this? Just doesn’t seem right surely? I’ve googled it and found lots of threads complaining about the same issue but struggling to find a fix. Edit - our laptop has only got 8gb ram. - minimum for PS. If we upgraded the ram to 16gb - recommended amount - would that potentially solve it?
  14. Which games that are genre defining or created genres do you personally not like but love what they contributed to gaming or other games? For example my main one is the Souls series of games. I’ve tried Demons, Bloodborne and Dark Souls and I’ve just not gotten on with any of them. However theres been lots of games which have incorporated Souls like elements which I’ve loved. Darksiders 3, Jedi Fallen Order, Blasphemous to name a couple off the top of my head. & I always look forward to other games with Souls like elements. Just not the Souls games themselves. Another for me is Legend of Zelda. Now this is a cheat one in a way as back in the day I did love OoT but for some reason I no longer look back at it that fondly, not sure why. Anyway apart from OoT I’ve not liked any other entry in the series. However I absolutely adore Okami. I’ve always liked games inspired by Zelda too, although it struggling to think of any at the moment. But the actual Zelda games just don’t do it for me.
  15. Least you get a discount for them while they’re on there. Doesn’t always work out due to stupid store pricing as the ridiculously overpriced Darksiders 3 proved - was still around £40 on the store. Luckily found a physical version online for about a fiver. Still more than worth it for the games I have played and finished well before they’ve been removed and even just as a extended demo to make sure I like it before purchasing. Plus aren’t the 1st party games on there forever? As long as they’ve bot got a shit licence time like Forza.

    Death Trash

Completely missed this one since it was in the PC Gamer E3 show. But it looks excellent. Even better is there’s a demo on Xbox which I’ve now played and it’s jumped right up my most wanted list. The atmosphere, world design and style is right up my street.
  17. As I’ve been reminded of twice. Darksiders 3 and soon Monster Hunter.
  18. Actually I think the videos of experienced players is the best thing to come from this game. I may not be a huge fan but I definitely appreciate and enjoy watching high level play of it. Will check it out. For me it goes 3, DmC, 1 then I’m not sure if it this or 4. Probably this. I remember not liking 4 much either but I’ve not played it since the original launch so can’t really trust my memory of it. Pretty sure this is better though. Pretty weird how they never did a 2 I agree.
  19. Decided to play on Xbox GP due to pad and in general the Series X runs older games better. Too late to restart it on PS5 now.
  20. @MafXbox. Just found out it’s leaving game pass at end of the month. FFS. It’s only £10 but maybe that’s what’s telling me I’m not really enjoying it that much because I’m hesitant to buy it even at that. We’ll see. May end up taking the plunge before the months out. Thanks @Sly Reflex
  21. Fucking typical. 8 months is plenty. & I’m one of those who paid for it.
  22. Yea I’ve not found any Thunderbugs yet turns out the crafting stuff it tells you what’s missing it’s the smithy that doesn’t mainly. I have actually had a couple of monsters since where the tail has come off so it’s stopped that ability they had. Still would like to be able to do a bit more, like chop off legs and whatnot. Suppose that would make it too easy though at that point. Just reached the area passed the Ravine after that big battle. It’s strange. I’m definitely feeling a compulsion to play it and keep going but not sure why. Don’t know if I’m actually enjoying it. But I’m liking just switching off and exploring the land, killing stuff and collecting shit.
  23. Completed. When I returned I basically had a boss rush with V - fun* Then a couple of missions with Nero & that timing exceed thing definitely made him more interesting but it was confusing the fuck out of me trying to time that this late in the game against stronger enemies. Dante’s last couple of levels were basically just challenge rooms so the last stretch was a bit shit really. The end bosses were good though. Dante vs was a motherfucker though!!! Thankfully the Overall I just really didn’t enjoy this for reasons I stated earlier. I can tell it’s a very well made game and the combat system is very deep but I only enjoyed using Dante and he was only there for about a quarter of the experience. I started the next difficulty hoping to get a bit more from it and try and understand Nero a bit more but I just can’t look at these environments anymore either. Glad I’ve played it just for the cut scenes more than anything and I enjoyed the story for what it was but just didn’t click with me. 6/10 Gutted. *sarcasm

Just none stop fun. Made for replaying too. Highly recommended. You probably already own it too, I had it through Gold. Give it a go. Kind of reminded me of Gunstar Heroes in a way too. 22/06/21 - Hollow Knight (PS5) - 1st & 2nd Endings
