Maf Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 I thought there was a general Sonic thread but couldn’t find it Anyway here’s the trailer. Apart from the game looking silky smooth I couldn’t see any graphical difference between this and the original. Not saying there isn’t, but I couldn’t see any It looks like they’re using Radical Highway and Final Rush from Sonic Adventure 2 (two of the best Sonic levels ever) with some Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 2006 shit I dunno. There’s one bit in the trailer where a crazy graphics things happens and it looks kind of sick. I’m really behind on Sonic. Not played Superstars or the iPad game. But this got me a bit hyped so maybe it’s time to catch up
mfnick Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 Generations is by far the best modern Sonic game. Loved it. So I’ll keep my eye on this just to see if the extras are worth a double dip. 1
Maryokutai Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 My inner optimist and cynist are having quite the Dragon Ball fight right now. The former thinks this could be a pretty cool game considering its strong foundation (Generations), the latter is convinced that SEGA will just ruin the best 3D Sonic with all the additional Shadow fluff being added to it.

Maf Posted January 31, 2024 Author Posted January 31, 2024 The 3D stuff in Generations is great but the 2D stuff was never quite right. It was always the poorer half of the package. I was sorting of hoping they’d ‘fix’ it, but clearly not. Nice there’s new content with Shadow at least and it isn’t purely a reheated thing.
DANGERMAN Posted February 1, 2024 Posted February 1, 2024 I think I remember the last boss being absolute nails. Generations was great though, not sure it needed a remaster but that applies to about 50% of games released
DisturbedSwan Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 Never played much of Generations so well up for this.
Maf Posted February 3, 2024 Author Posted February 3, 2024 Suppose it was obvious but the reason this game doesn’t look much better graphically is it’s also coming out on Switch. I think I will get the PC version so I can mod in skins and stuff. I did that on Frontiers and it was cool. Especially because the Xbox version runs at 4K60 already. Apart from this being native not sure what I would be buying which I don’t already have on console
Maf Posted June 7, 2024 Author Posted June 7, 2024 Looks like box art, release, date price and pre-order info has leaked for this ahead of Games Fest https://www.eurogamer.net/sonic-x-shadow-generations-release-date-leaks-ahead-of-potential-summer-game-fest-reveal $50 and 25/10/24 2 things Firstly I don’t know why Xbox can’t settle on a standard box design but they should keep this one. The more art on your box the better Secondly I don’t know what I expect from this. New Shadow levels, that’s really cool. Can’t wait to see what they do with Radical Highway. I wonder if we’ll get 2D Shadow levels as well because I don’t think that’s been done before. On the other hand I expect there to be only a small handful of new levels and most of it just a 4k60 rehash of the original. Generations was really good but it could definitely be better. I’m hoping that they rework some of the 2D Sonic stuff but I know that’s hoping too much from this
Maf Posted June 8, 2024 Author Posted June 8, 2024 The trailer The Shadow stuff continues to look cool. They imply Shadow is going to have a full length campaign/adventure, but we’ll see. I’lll be happy if there’s 5 levels for Shadow. That would seem like a fair expansion At the end they show the pre-order stuff and the digital deluxe edition comes with an extra Shadow level The level appears to come out after the game’s launch so hopefully it can be bought separately, that would suck otherwise
Maf Posted June 8, 2024 Author Posted June 8, 2024 Some official screenshots. Maybe it’s just the images but it really looks like Shadow is a higher quality model than Sonic? It looks like Shadow has hair/fur. The lighting seems much better as well? Maybe I’m wrong but it looks like they’ve ported the main game but the new content is made to a more modern and higher standard. That could be since Generations is nearly 15 years old (I know, it makes me want to cry, too) but it’s a shame they didn’t go all out and remake the whole thing
Maf Posted July 2, 2024 Author Posted July 2, 2024 There’s a collector’s edition for this game. It appears to be only on PS5 and Switch, and maybe only for Asian territories? Not sure. I’ve only seen it posted to this YT channel I doubt I’ll get it. Mainly because I only by expensive editions when it’s a Nintendo game and also I did buy the original collectors edition for Sonic Generations and the statue was broke. Still butt hurt about it
Maryokutai Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 That sucks, that is actually one of the very few CEs with a genuinely high quality statue. This one looks a bit lame though, but I'm also not a fan of Shadow anyway.
Maf Posted July 9, 2024 Author Posted July 9, 2024 They dropped this video. I’m guessing it’s the opening cutscene to Shadow’s campaign. I also read somewhere there’s a secret playable character, and it’s not 2D/“classic” Shadow Tbh I’ve played every mainline Sonic the Hedgehog game and still don’t understand Shadow at all. Just the basic idea that he was created as the ultimate life form 50 years before Sonic was born…so why is he dark Sonic on jet boots? Why are there clones? Who is the girl? Why is Shadow meant to be a cure for her disease? Black Doom and Mephiles what? Like every Sonic character is a cute fluffy animal with 1 personality trait and then there’s Shadow which is overburdened with lore to the point where he is almost fan fiction parody. Well, maybe this game will actually explain it all
Maf Posted August 1, 2024 Author Posted August 1, 2024 They are going all out on these Shadow levels. This is really cool Not to undermine the level - the level looks great and Shadow’s chaos control ability looks amazing, too But for a fusion of Final Rush and Radical Highway I feel like there’s key elements of those levels they missed. No super winding grind rail in space? No collapsing bridge? It is very cool but I think they missed some easy, iconic Sonic level moments here Who knows, maybe they’ll appear in more levels in the game Which is the next thing. How many levels are there like this?? That’s crazy. I want this to feel like a whole game, but I have this suspicion there’s like 3 super cool levels and then a tonne of side mission type things based on these levels
Maryokutai Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Oddly there's another CE coming via Limited Run: The Dreamcast is cute, but the whole thing looks massive. https://limitedrungames.com/collections/sonic-x-shadow-generations
Maf Posted October 24, 2024 Author Posted October 24, 2024 Aww. I like seeing devs on Twitter get good reception The Metacritic score does not line up with the reception I’ve seen to this game. Especially the Shadow campaign which early I was very pessimistic and thought might be a few levels, is actually a full on new campaign and is apparently amazing. Got it on PS5 coming this week As much as I’m glad people seem to really love this. It’s a bit hmm to have a Sonic game be so successful without Sonic. If it is that good I think I’ll get it on PC as well because the Sonic mod scene is crazy and it’ll take 48 hours before the Shadow campaign can be played as Sonic
