bellow Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Is this known to be short or something? I feel I've only just got started and I'm getting a point of no return. I've done every side quest too. Unless it's a false ending I'm definitely not getting the 50 odd hours I'd read about.
bellow Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Yeah, that was it. Short and sweet. I did every side quest I came across and still got about 25 hours out of it. Maybe I should have explored a bit more, freestyle. Still it was a pretty good experience all told, and I think Obsidian are really close to having one of these games have FPS gameplay as a serious option. The guns were so solid in this. Maybe all that Microsoft cash will tip them over the edge. They really could be number 1 when it comes to WRPGs. 2
shinymcshine Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 I've been playing this for around 18 hrs so far (Xbox Series S, via Gamepads) and it's enjoyable - but as said previously it just lacks its own ideas.
shinymcshine Posted April 6, 2023 Posted April 6, 2023 I'm on 25 hrs and have just completed the relay station (main quest) at Devil's Peak (jump started the tower). Which means I've been doing quite a lot of sidequests, but it's getting a bit repetitive (as sidequest rewards are hardly ever worth it). So I think I'll just do the Companion quests and hammer on with the main quest from now on. Game dynamics aren't great - the Perk & Quirk system is pretty poor, with no particularly interesting Perks or Quirks to make things more engaging (needs to take a look at how Wasteland handled these !) Otherwise is so far so........ ho-hum. It feels like someone stuck Fallout, Mass Effect and Borderlands into a corporate blender and voted out the most interesting parts and stuck with the mundane bits.
shinymcshine Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 Took about 5 hrs to wrap up the main quest - fortunately my lie/persuade/tech skillset meant that I could bypass/blag past a lot of combat encounters - was odd to get an end narrative for characters I'd not added to the party (I picked up 4 from 6? but predominantly just used Parvati and SAM). It was a big dose of 'okay' overall.
Sly Reflex Posted April 14 Posted April 14 I've been playing this. I think I like it? Although people sold it as space Fallout, it feels more like Mass Effect? I am getting a bit of critic whiplash because I thought it was going to be a barrel o shite and it turns out it isn't.
Maryokutai Posted April 14 Posted April 14 It's not as close to the Bethesda stuff as you'd think going in, but the part I enjoyed most is that it feels like a mini version of their games, a bit like Bully was a mini GTA. I remember critics liking it a lot and the playerbase being more lukewarm about it, but I might be wrong about that. It was enjoyable for the first ten-ish hours for me but then I just moved away because nothing really happened and the stuff it did well wasn't engaging enough to keep me motivated. I might try again depending on how good the sequel looks, it's not a long game after all.

Yeah, the flow of landing at a location, choosing your crew and rolling out reminded me of doing missions in the Mass Effect games.
Sly Reflex Posted April 14 Posted April 14 It's not just that, it's the way the conversations flow and the way combat happens and how the AI deals with it, it's not exactly cover shooter, but it's not as hamfisted as Fallout was even in 4. I just completed the second world in this with the toothpaste. I enjoy this game. It's a lot better than I was expecting.
