Yeah i am really loving this game now.

Climbing up the ranks and its really addictive having stuff to unlock and trophies etc.

Basically you get trophies in game for getting so many kills with a gun or whatever.... and if you get a certian amount or combination of tropies you will unlock an arm patch award... which stays in your stats.

The trophies are reset each game.... adds a new layer to things... much like achievements do.... but with these awards and so on you can unlock more stuff.

Im really loving it and i do think that EA have sussed the whole 'satisfying noise when you unlock something' business.

I am also finding it rather hard to go back to games that make me walk around a wall instead of blowing it the fuck out of my way.

Its the same feeling i had after getting used to shooting through walls in COD and then going back to Halo.

Yep, it's quality. I have two levels left in the single player, and it's been an enjoyable experience on the whole so far. I've just done a mission where you spend pretty much the whole level using the helicopter, which was fun, and it's a good way of getting used to the various weapons and vehicles for when you try the multiplayer.

Speaking of multiplayer, it's really addictive! I'm not really that good at it at the moment, I seem to die as much as I kill, but I just keep going back for more. I'm currently rank 7, and have unlocked a few weapons and extra's. Use the knife on enemies and you can collect their dog tags! And as you say Oliath, the trophies really add something, it's so good to hear that 'ching!' and see the trophy dangle from the top of the screen when you meet certain criteria (three kills in a tank, for example).

But yeah, this game deserves more love here.

I finished the single player campaign a couple nights ago, and it was very enjoyable. There were a couple frustrating parts near the end, but nothing major. I can now concentrate on the multi, which as I've said already, is bloody amazing! It really is.

I am gradually improving as I get to learn the maps and classes. I tend to play as Support most of the time, using the M60 and mortar strike, and chucking med kits to those in need. Gold Rush mode (only mode there is at the moment) is great fun.

It's a shame it hasn't really taken off on MFGamers, it's getting much love on RLLMUK! I'm switching between this and CoD4 and they both have their place as they play so differently. Get it now, you'll like it.

Yeah i agree.... this game deserves way more attention.

Especially from the COD4 lovers out there...

I find it helps to be able to play all the classes and switch between them depending on the situation.

Im getting better with demolition and its actually a really useful attack class.

The best strategy seems to be to have a couple of you raining hell down around the crates to panic the enemy and clear out the area.... mortar strikes, painting targets and so on... and someone firing rockets to open up buildings and expose anyone hiding near the crates..... while some others sneak in and set up a spawn camp right inside the base.... Then you just over whelm the enemy.

I have also seen specialists load the crate up with explosives and detonate... rinse and repeat a couple of times and it blows wide open. Advantage of this is that it doesn't set off the loud warning alarm that brings the enemies running to diffuse the charge.

I'm also getting pretty good at running up to tanks and sticking C4 on them.

Best moment the other night was when i was hiding in the enemies base, and their chopper spawned infront of me.... so i whacked some C4 all over it and waited till some dude from the other team jumped in and started to head back to our base.... CLICK... BOOOOOOOM

:-0)

so its like call of duty multiplayer, but you can blow open walls, helicopters appear and you actually fly them, and you can do morters...im getting more curious about it, but the single multiplayer option is making me slightly cautious.

but think how much you've played multi COD4 in comparison to single COD 4?

Yeah but I play all the various COD4 multiplayer types, eg domination, headquarters, free for all rather than just sticking to one type.

We just received word from EA that the long awaited Bad Company mode; Conquest, will be available as a free download on Thursday 7th of this month.

For too long have we attacked and defended those pesky gold stashes, it was about time that the Conquest mode dropped. Conquest, the mode made famous by Battlefield 1942, pits players against each other in a battle for the tickets.

"Players deplete their opponent’s tickets by one point per kill and can cause their opponents tickets to spiral downwards by capturing control points."

The Conquest gametype will currently only be available on 4 pre-existing maps that were available for online play with the Gold Rush gametype. Seems like a long time to wait for a mode that only supports 4 maps? Oh well, looks like we could be back on Gold Rush in a matter of weeks.

Bout time!

Ah this game does appeal to me... takes be back to my Battlefield 2 days...

But i dont see me spending enough time on it to buy it...if it comes out on the PC ill probably snap it up

Hi Shin

I actually play with a couple of people from work who were BIG TIME into battlefield 2 and hated every other iteration... especially the console versions.

They say that this version takes the franchise right back to where it would be.... while adding updated elements.

I personally love this game. I think the unlockables and rank progression is just right and enough to keep you going and give you little goals to head for.

Its also surprisingly easy to pickup and play on and off so you don't need to invest huge chunks of time (although i do).

TO anyone that owns this game.

New conquest mode is now available as a free download.

Conquest is basically a territories type game.... and when each team holds a territory, they can then spawn from that point.

To win the map a team must either capture all territories, OR the other team must run out of spawn tickets.

The maps are basically smaller versions of existing maps with some cosmetic weather changes and so on.

I still prefer the Gold Crate mode, but Conquest provides a much faster type of game and focuses alot more on kills and deathmatch style play than any strategy.

So, a few people on my friend list (including PTG and Sly) still regularly play this, which is rare for a Live game that isn't CoD4 or Halo 3.

Sell it to me, why do you guys keep playing it?

I had Papa drunkenly trying to explain its merits during a game of Pure ages ago, but it just sounded like a mixture of TF2 and CoD4 and to be honest I don't think there's room for that many shooters in my collection.

Yeah, I play this loads but I realise I haven't really said anything about it.

I got it cheap during the Morrisons thing and wasn't really expecting much but it has turned out to be my shooter of choice, I don't know why I never thought I would like it because I loved BF: Modern Combat. It's not a straight out shooter, it's objective based so in that sense it is similar to Team Fortess but the maps are larger and designed well for different tactics, wether that be finding a nice spot for sniping, sneaking your way to the objective or scaring the crp out of everyone manically screeching round in a light tank.

It's also one of the few games where working as a team really works, you can do okay on your own but things really come together playing with a team, sticking together while one guy goes medic and keeps you live while keeping the enemy off the last crate or flushing out a building with mortar strikes then sending in specialists for attacking, communicating enemy positions while manning vehicles is also essential.

It's slower paced than CoD4 but as a multiplayer game it does outshine it, pity the singleplayer is a bit naff.

It's hard to sell really, it either gets under your skin or it doesn't, I guess it's just the more tactical side to it which I like but if your not in the mood for that kind of play then just go Assault and shoot eveyone.. not your own team of coarse.. though it happens. <_<

If your buying BF:BC for the single player, don't. I found it a chore from start to finish, I was amazed at how fucking boring they managed to make driving round in vehicles (tanks, APC's dune buggies and golf carts) and helicopters. Also, practically every character in the game is ripped from another game. It's a painful experience that I wouldn't put anyone through.

Online is another kettle of fish. Best played with a full squad of 4 (the rest of the team cant hear you), it really comes alive once you realise what roles best suit you. When you first start playing, you get killed constantly, because your mind is that used to knowing that if you stand behind a wall while a tank is shelling it, you'll be fine. Fact is, you wont be fine, and you wont get this game till you get that fact in your head.

As Class mentioned, the classes divide opinions on how you play the game.

Assault is your standard man, he has a good range, has grenades and a grenade launcher, and has the ability to heal himself. He is a good all rounder that everyone can play as.

Recon can be played in a variety of ways. I normally use him as a defensive or support unit. He is well camouflaged in dark and grassy areas, and using the automatic sniper rifles can be a royal pain in the arse for the enemy. A side arm is carried and is only used in the extreme circumstances of close combat, although I normally only use these if I am forced to, or the enemy has his back to me and I am not close enough to knife him. His radar grenade paints enemy positions on screen if they go near one while active. The recon also carries a laser designator, which is basically a big pair of fuck off goggles that calls in a single bomb to be dropped near a vehicle or gun emplacement you have targeted. You then steer the bomb from the sky to its intended target. this is very satisfying when you get it right. The Recon cannot heal himself.

Specialist is a balaclava clad squaddie with a short ranged silenced weapon that can kill very quickly even fired from the hip. Other equipment this class carries are standard frag grenades and C4, which can be used to place traps on bridges, destroy enemy equipment. Or as our favourite tactic, placing multiple C4's on the front of a vehicle, then ram raiding the crate, doing a runner and blowing the C4 is something Al Qaeda would be proud off. The Specialist also carries a tracer gun. This makes it possible to mark soldiers and vehicles until they are destroyed. As an added bonus, tagged vehicles also act as rocket magnets for the Demolition class. The Specialist cannot heal himself.

Demolition class has a shotgun, grenades, rockets and anti tank mines. Lethal at close quarters, they are hopeless at distance, however, the rockets cant kill all vehicles bar heavy tanks in one hit. The tank mine are also a 1 hit kill on anything that runs over them. Demolition cannot heal themselves.

Support come equipped with a light machine gun, which is good enough to destroy anything that isnt heavily armoured. It is pretty useless up close on close targets, and needs to be aimed rather than shot from the hip for best results. The medical pack can be dropped for others to gain HP (even the enemy!). If you hold a medikit, you health will slowly regain, but it is far quicker to drop one at your feet and get a quicker boost of health. The power tool is used for repairing vehicles, but can be used to drill holes in walls (no close explosives in this class) or other peoples heads. The mortar strike is a thing of wonder, it can destroy vehicles, buildings, enemy and friendly troops, forests and crates. Watching it rip apart the enemies hiding place really is a joy to behold.

There are many vehicles and gun emplacements in this game, but I am not going to explain them because that's part of the fun jumping on one and finding out how best to use it. The maps are big and the tactics are many. Gold rush still offers me many more ways to sneakily get in unnoticed, while conquest has 6 squads fighting over 5 flags. The aim is to whittling down the enemies tickets, I found the easiest way was for a squad each to protect a flag, repelling attackers as they came.

CoD4 didn't really do it for me. The random deaths from grenades boiled my piss and the whole premise of spawn-kill-die-spawn-kill-die didn't really constitute what a online war game did. People never seem to play as teams (baring VAG?) and I found it an severely unbalanced game for the most. Add to that that the people that played it tended to be homophobic racists cunts and it only makes the equation worse. Sure, you are bound to find idiots on BF:BC (getting TK'd of the artillery really needs to be punished more harshly), but as a whole I find it one of the best experiences you can have on LIVE, once it all clicks.

I'm going to stop rambling now, I'm looking like I totally sex this game long time.

If I can find it cheap I'll pick it up for sure.

I tried the demo when ti came out and I wasn't overly keen on the controls, and as you say, the single player left a lot to be desired. The multi seemed really laggy and dull, but I guess they've fixed it now and it all depends on how well you're working together.

Hmmm, yeah, I think knife kills are questionable, I can only get people if they stay really still yet I've been got from feet away. Maybe there's a throw button I don't know about.

Same with sniping, it's like you have to take it into account like you would wind resistence. But non of this really spoils it, it's not like this sort of thing doesn't come up in CoD4 and such.
