    Secret of Mana

Cleared some space on my Wii for this most precious of gems. Looks awfull on the 42" but fuck it, i love this game from the bottom of my asshole. Im really interested to hear from someone who has never played it becaue my rosetints ae welded to my face. I love the soundtrack so much, honestly, i ony got to my first oppertunity to save and i had a massive boner. Even when you save it the music is awesome... Im gonna bum this hard like i do my girlfriend when she's asleep.
  2. Never got into AC before and will see how this one goes. Its basically about collecting and building up a campsite right? Not sure where the satisfaction is yet but will give it a bit more time
  3. Played the first 90 minutes or so of this earlier. Been wanting to play this for absolute donkeys years but missed the boat on its first 360/PS3 release, got it on PS+ but by then my PS3 was unplugged and in the cupboard, so just been biding my time for it to get to a price I'm comfortable paying on Steam. I never played the NES original so have no reference for how faithful a remaster/remake etc. it is, I vaguely remember them saying they got the original voice actors back but I'm not sure of that. Anyhoo, the game is pretty good, I roughly knew what to expect by watching footage years back, I knew about the pogo stick beforehand and am familiar with the characters from watching the TV show as a kid, got a kick out of hearing the theme tune when I first booted the game up. The gameplay really surprised me by how tight it controlled, it controls really nicely and I got into the Platforming very early on. Not really sure what the point is of it other than get a shit-load of cash and the level selection seems rather limited, but yeah I'm having a great time with it I have to say, reminds me of DKCR a bit with the hidden paths that there are to find, it has actually exceeded my expectations in a lot of ways. Had to restart after getting stuck on the first 'proper' level though, bloody hard it is! Feels like it has retained its NES-era difficulty for sure, can't imagine how difficult it would be on Hard! So yeah, restarted after getting stuck on the first level and went through the tutorial and eventually completely the first Amazon level on Easy. Will pick it up again tomorrow.

    Bully

I started this on Friday with zero expectations but, as easily pleased boy is, i was pleased with it, easily. Its basically GTA at school - steal bikes instead of cars, shoot slingshots instead of guns, kiss young girls instead of raping/murdering prostitutes. As usual in these sorts of games (with me anyway) the plot soon became a distant memory as i chose instead to see how many steps i could olly up on my skateboard and to see how many people would fight me at the carnival. Its got its own version of Paperboy in there too, im lovin that at the moment, as well as the Go Karts and the Bike Races. Oooh, and the Lawnmowing jobs too, awesome!

    Fire Emblem Heroes

Fire Emblem: Heroes is out. I haven't played it yet but I'll give it a bash later.

    Super Mario Run

Anyone else played Mario Run yet? It seems pretty excellent.
  7. This is up for free on PS+ right now, and I played it, so here is some impressions. I think I just want to vent. Man, do I hate this game. And for God's sake did I not want to hate it, I didn't want to be that guy. Table Top Racing is made by X-Wipeout folk, and that game rules so, so much. And after Sony Liverpool was dissolved this was what came out. A total mess. I'm heartbroken. It looks like Micro Machines from the 90s. I'm from the 90s, and I liked those Micro Machines games. They should have me in the palm of hair hands, nodding to a game from the 90s with me, as desperate as I am to hold on to my youth (got ID'd last week, I'm still a teen really). But no, this game is really, really confused. It is a lot like Micro Machines in a way. The tracks take place on table tops and its all small and cute, avoiding bread sticks and stuff. But, one of the 'cars' you can buy at the start to race in is the Breaking Bad meth wagon (it has official licencing) so I dunno what they're going for with tone ( Coming from a Mobile origin I guess who cares?). But screw all that: It's about the gameplay. That's what gamers tell me. Even though it is Micro Machines in presentation and has adult content officially licensed in a game that doesn't warrant it... and has a soundtrack that tries to beat Motorstorm: Pacific Rift despite in wubs despite not building up the atmosphere to make it work. The game itself is just shitty. It's a crude mobile port. Knowing it came from a gyroscode design I do respect it in a way. It's a Mario Kart style game that solely requires knowing the tracks for the best racing line, a lot like Wipeout I guess, but it is just executed in such an unsatisfying way; a way that is so unfun, especially compared to Mario Kart which it clearly tries to be as well; a game where it is more fun the faster you go thanks to the drift mechanic. This game punishes going fast in a silly way, despite presenting itself as Micro machines, at least visually. It's like it requires you to drive carefully, be sensible, hitting those apexes right (in a game where you drive through billiard balls like they're paper, with wubs, driving a meth van, with Mario Kart power ups). It's just all wrong. Play it! Tell me it works! I just can't believe these veterans got this so wrong, or they don't care anymore and just want to make something to tick enough boxes for loads of people to work. But this shit doesn't click, and it won't work on a large audience.. I guess they looked a Rocket League and thought they had the game to be this year's version. I expected better from these guys. Fuck this game. It's the fucking worst. Fuck this game. I've not hated a game this much in ages. Thanks for that, I guess.

    Radiohammer

This is a fairly simplistic looking rhythm game that I got of the E Shop for summink like £3.19. You bash bad guys to the beat of the music with your hammer as they run either at the top of the screen or the bottom. At first which part of the screen they are running along was confusing, top and bottom fields seem very close but I soon got used to it. I used the touch screen but you can also use the d-pad or the buttons. Your choice. You also get offered presents which basically adds as a distraction but it's another thing to keep you challenged. Well, the music isnt bad, all original songs so far that remind me a little of Jet Set Radio, I've struggled with a couple of songs that dont have strong beats but then that's a consistant problem with me and rythym games. It looks nice, all cartoony and that, you play the part of a little looking girl called July Ann who is using the pirate radio station you are listening to the songs on as a metronome of justice, taking down perverts and bad guys to the beat. Despite being only top or bottom it picks up the pace quite quick. You can just simply clear the stage but you are given little missions represented by stars, like get a certain amount of great or perfect hits, no miss clear a stage or collect all the white and red presents that are randomly offered to you whilst avoiding the yellow and black presents that are offered as traps. Or tricks. I've only payed the first two chapters that contain five stages each but it's been fun, especially as it was so cheap. It's not the best rhythm game in the world but I like it enough to recommend it for three bleedin quid. Here's some gameplay for your eyes and ears:
  9. What's in the cube? A broken server, that's what. It took me ages to finally get in and then trying to buy the stats screen (only costs 100 coins which you'll get in about 10 seconds) is proving impossible. The "game" itself is exactly as Molyneux described and they point out in the about page that it's not a game and is more of an experiment so it's weird to see people so dismissive and angry about it. It hasn't been out long and already the first layer is nearly gone.

    Hero Siege

This has been out on smartphones and PC for a while now, but I just got around to picking it up and playing it. The Finnish developer Panic Art calls it a “rouge-lite hack n’ slash”, which is a somewhat fitting description. People reviewing it on Steam call it a stripped down Diablo, but at its core it’s a twin stick arena arcade game like Nuclear Throne. The difference being Hero Siege has very lite RPG trappings like leveling and skills. Playing with kbam is so fucken annoying, so I would recommend playing with the 360 or XO gamepad for this. There are eight classes (if you buy the DLC) and the only two that really interest me are the redneck class and pirate class. Still on my first play through of the game with a level nine redneck I affectingly named Bubba Fett. The Redneck class is a melee class and his main weapon is a chainsaw. The skills that I’ve unlocked for that class are flaming NASCAR wheels that can be thrown, Molotov cocktails that can be thrown and a bear trap that you can lure enemies into. There are a few more for that class, but I have not unlocked them yet. Each area has six waves of enemies that you fight and the sixth wave is a boss fight. Pretty typical stuff for a twin stick game. Each area is randomly generated and has secrets like dungeons. There is also some DLC for called The Carp of Doom. It adds a fifth act, a new class Samurai, exclusive hats and exclusive dungeons. If you buy the C.E. version of the DLC you get a Cyber Punk skin for the Samurai Class and a Karp Hat. The game is quite difficult till you level your character up, then it becomes quite an enjoyable experience. According to the developer Hero Siege is coming to PS4, PS3 and PS Vita at some point in time. They are also trying to become id@Xbox developers too. I would recommend this if you enjoy twin stick arena games and grinding. 4 beer cans and a dixie cup/5 beer cans

    Alien Breed

I have had so many opportunities to play Team 17's Alien Breed throughout my twenty seven years of gaming, but always passed or got busy with other games. Last night I started playing the PlayStation Vita port of Alien Breed and wow it is fantastic. Alien Breed is up there with Dyson vacuums, The Business and Liverpool FC as one of the greatest thing given to mankind by the English. The Vita port includes the original 1991 Amiga game, the 1992 enhanced special edition and what looks like expansions packs (Convergence, Valiance and Synergy). Wi-Fi and Ad-Hoc co-op is included. Team Bloober did the VIta port and it looks fantastic on the Vita's screen. Not sure how the controls where set up on the Amiga, but the twin sticks and touch screen on the Vita work wonderfully. Great game. Highly enjoying it. Easy Trophies if that is your thing.

    Dokuro

Dokuro is a puzzle platform game from Game Arts and GungHo Online. The basic plot is the Dark Lord kidnaps a princess for him to marry (by force). You play as Dokuro who is one of the Dark Lords skeleton minions. Dokuro sees the princess crying and seeing as he is tired of being ignored by the Dark Lord decides to help her escape the Dark Lords castle. The gameplay revolves around flipping switches to guide the princess out of the level unharmed. The game play gets more complex adding chalk, which can be used to connect platforms with chain and rope. Dokuro can also drink potion which turns him into a knight giving him stronger attacks. After five levels you have a boss fight before moving onto the next section of the castle. I would put Dokuro up there with Limbo as one of the more beautiful games on Vita. In fact if you liked Limbo I would strongly recommend Dokuro. The graphical style has a chalk or pastel look to it. Dokuro is also one of the better made games on the device with the gameplay being as solid as a brick. It was only $2.99 on the PlayStation store and it should be in every Vita owners digital library. For non-Vita owners Dokuro has been ported by GungHo to iOS and Android, but without physical face buttons and d-pad I’m not sure how it will play.
  13. Do you like SNK's Metal Slug game? Do you like tower defense games too? Well SNK just dropped free-2-play Metal Slug Defense on Andriod and iOS today. Downloading at the moment and will write my thoughts after I sink some time into it.
  14. I was a massive PAD player (Puzze & Dragons). To be honest the game is not well balanced and lower level monsters did not scale so their was really no strategy. Also PAD was harsh due to poorly written algorithms. While I love the RPG/Match Three games I was not happy with that product anymore, so over the weekend I tried three some what new-ish RPG/Match Three games - Tower of Saviors, Pac-Man Monsters and Puzzle Troopers. Pac-Man Monster is new to the app store and is a well made game, but had no strategy you just draw lines thats it. It also not match three as you can tap one red dot and your red monster will attack. Just lame. Puzzle Troopers from Gumi is straight pay to play. It almost religiously badgers you to buy in game currency. Also lame. So I moved on to the last one Tower of Saviors from a Hong Kong based studio. The game is highly polished offering Vanillaware quality artwork and soundtrack. Gameplay is far superior to PAD and better written. While they do offer you gems to buy it really not needed as Mad Head (the developers) are very generous with give you one to two gems a day. I have two solid teams (one with high ranking cards and another mid-ish ranking cards) and I'm more than willing to fork over cash to extend my card slots due to the overall generosity and business practices of Mad Head. Also, a nice touch of detail the backgrounds of the cards move if you move your tablet/phone left to right. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/iebbEzJEuqA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  15. So I downloaded Deadman's Cross today. It's free-2-play, so it did not cost me a dime to give it a whirl. I was not sure what to expect it looked like a FPS, but with a CCG element to it. It from Square Enix and was developed by folks who worked on Final Fantasy franchise and Guardian Cross, so the art direction and menus are very nicely done. The music is also nicely done. Gameplay wise it is not a FPS like I initially though, but a dungeon crawler RPG (Think Etrian Odyssey) with lite CCG, visual novel and Silent Scope styled shooting. The shooting and RPG elements are tight, but the CCG part of the game auto plays for you. You have really no control of the card fight. It would be nice the CCG part of the game was a lane battle and you had more control over everything. So far it pretty solid game and have not found any abusive paywalls, but I'm still early on in the game. If I find abusive paywalls I rant about it here.

    Boson X

I've been playing this a lot the last couple of days so I'm talking about it. It's another endless runner for your phone (or PC, if you want) but this one is actually pretty interesting and a lot of fun. You are a scientist who decided to fire himself down the Hadron Collider and use himself to find the Boson Particle. It's a really cool and dumb premise but it makes for a high speed runner with an abstract style which mostly looks pretty good. I think the only thing I don't like is the running animation which continues the dorky running tradition also used by Temple Run, which I believe was started by that guy in Syphon Filter. But he (or she, you can pick a she in the options) is a scientist so a dorky run is more understandable. But a part from the premise which appealed to me, there is another thing: Boson X must of been paying attention to Super Hexagon because there are some similarities in the design which make it more fun that your average 3D runner. Like Super Hexagon it is random but there is also a pattern to the parts of the run so it's a case of learning and knowing how to react to these random 'phases', for lack of a better word. It's also similar in how it sets out its goals. In Boson X you have to try and run on blue paths that increase a percentage, and also your speed, and getting to 100% makes the level change colour and your speed dramatically increases; then it's just a case of surviving... it's essentially the same as what happens in SH after you cross 60 seconds. When you hit 100% you unlock the next level but there is that leaderboard making you want to keep going on earlier levels. It's a cool game... not as cool as Super Hexagon, but it's a fine effort. It's not quite as tight as that or as inventive with its challenge but not many games of that ilk are. It's free on PC so it's certainly worth a look for a few minutes to see what you think. I also think it's easily worth the £1.50 on iOS/Android. And it has none of that grinding, coin collecting, perk management and microtransaction bollocks of most runners. It's a nice game.
  17. I've been playing this little game that someone might care about. It's from the people who are making that Owlboy game. They made this during a break as a kind of holiday. The Savant guy is some dub-step dude (well, apparently he goes under a few aliases, but when he makes dub-step it's Savant, from what I've stumbled across). It's a simple game but with some fun things in it. It's sort of shooter but you're stuck to the ground, you can move but only between two points, and you can switch between them or jump between them giving some variety in the way you dodge enemies, you know, sometimes a bit of air might help you dodge an attack or visa versa. It does mean you really have to keep an eye on the screen for things coming at you as well as what you're firing at. Shooting is done with the mouse in a way you'd expect, but your magic does need a sec to wind up, though your first shot is a burst that does more damage before turning into a rapid fire shot. That's the game, basically and you can tell from the video, I guess. I think it's a pretty cool game. The little subtleties in the movement and firing do make for some exciting moments as you somersault around and the game looks and sounds great. It's got some real nice pixelart, though judging from what they've shown of Owlboy that's no surprise, and the dub-step fits the fast pace of the game and the sort of mechanical Gothic look. It definitely suits being a phone/tablet game. You do get access to an Android version, too, when you buy it but it won't run on my phone so I don't know how it handles on a touch device. It slipped under the radar a bit but I thought I'd show yous as I think it's worth knowing about. You buy it here.

    Kairo

Started playing this last night. Kairo is an adventure/puzzle game that was developed by Richard Perrin. Kairo does have a narrative, but the game leaves it up to the gamer to figure out what that might be by exploing the world and solving the puzzles. It's leaves you confused and I kind of like it that way. I'm starting to get the sense of what I think narrative might be, but I'm still not 100% sure. The world is that Kairo is based in is a kind of heavenly, sterile, peaceful and slighty creepy world. Kairo is not a horror game, but the fact that you are the only living thing in the game along with musical score and sound effects gives it a creepy vibe. Kairo's world reminds me a lot of the world that El Shaddai was set in and Hueco Mundo from the anime Bleach. On a technical level Kairo is far from flawless. While I love the world and the confusion the game leaves me in the game does have issues. While I can't speak for the Windows, iOS, android or Mac version of the game. The Linux version suffers from massive screen tearing. The first person controls are also on the losey-goosey side of things. There is a slider in the option menu that lets you adjust the camera, but it does not seem to make a difference, unless the slider is all the way to the left - then the camera does not move. I have not finished the game yet, but from what I've played so far I would recommend this to adventure and puzzle fans. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/IBkoyCeKwIU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

    Joe Danger

so i got this to play while watching the GP, it's pretty good, looks like it might play like trials but really doesn't, there's lots more (and occasionally confusing) controls, and it's all about doing tricks and combos and collecting stuff, rather than just keeping your bike from crashing. each track has various objectives to win stars, such as finding hidden stars, collecting all the small stars, landing on all the targets, doing something in a time limit, comboing the whole level (not quite as hard as it sounds as wheeleing is easy and keeps the combo going, but still will require some heavy memorisation later on) etc. there are checkpoints which help for some of the objectives and for learning the tracks but will be usless for others where you'll just need to start again (like keeping the combo), and there's multiple routes on some levels, where you have to press up/down on the stick/dpad at specific lane change points. despite my moaning the controls are reasonably sensible its just you have to do a lot at the same time: L2/R2 - back/forwards L1/R1 - tricks x - boost square - duck/jump up/down - change lanes right/left - lean/spin forwards/backwards one race i was having trouble winning because while doing tricks and wheeleing as much as possible to get boosts to stay ahead and jumping over obstacles i'd keep forgetting which button was accelerate (i'd be pressing right on the dpad or x when i should be pressing r2) it's great fun boosting while wheeleing into a jump then spinning and doing tricks to charge the next boost while collecting stars and landing on a target then boosting off to the next ramp, but the stomp and spike obstacles have been annoying, especially the things that crush you just after a lane change where its hard to adjust your speed, and some targets it doesn't show you too well with the camera angle. so i've been quite enjoying it but i'm not completely sold yet, i need to get better at the controls. this was quite hyped - did anyone else get it?
  21. Bought Leviathan Warship today on Steam. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Ab9e764D7cI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The game is a really solid strategy game. Going in the only reference I had was the "jazzy" trailers, so I thought It would be a watered down arcade/casual style strategy game, but Leviathan is a deep game. Surprising for a game that is also on tablets. Leviathan is divided into two phases - Planning and Outcomes. Planning phase is where you give movement and targeting orders to your ships. When you're done with the planning phase you hit the "commit" button and you switch to outcome phase which you sit back and watch the results of your orders. Two types of weapons - Autofire and Manual. Autofire can be used as manual or set to autofire. Manual weapons are more advance weaponry like the Rocket Turret and can only be fired with manual input. Your ships can be damaged. Bridge Damage - Ship will have a reduced field of vision Out of Control - You have no control over that ships heading. It will go where it wants too. Engine Damage - You lose the ability to move your ship. It's basically stuck in the water. High Armor Piercing will do double damage on Low Armor Low Armor Piercing will do less damage on High Armor Low Armor Piercing will do regular damage on Low Armor High Armor Piercing will do regular damage on High Armor That is just barely scratching the surface. Like I said the game is pretty deep, but easy to pick-up. Reminds me a lot of Steel Horizon on the DS in that way. The in-game music is not jazzy like the trailer, but Paradox is releasing free "Jazz Boatman" DLC in the near future. That DLC pack will have in-game commentary by Jazz Boatman with smooth jazz music in-game. On the subject of DLC. Non-mandatory DLC like new ships packs for MP cost cash - around $4 and the MP map pack I think was around $2 and change. All mandatory DLC looks to be free. Highly recommend this game for strategy buffs. If any of you do get this game look me up on Steam for some ship your pants navel combat.

    10000000

I would just put this in the mobile thread but there's a PC version and I think a few of us might end up playing it. on paper it sounds like Puzzle Quest, it's an rpg based around match-3, where what you match dictates your actions. So if you want to attack you need to match 3 swords or 3 wands, if you need to unlock something you need to match 3 keys (or more). Unlike Puzzle Quest you don't have health, instead you're progressing along the top of the screen, the quicker you beat an enemy or unlock a door the longer you get to play. If you take too long or take damage you get knocked back to the edge of the screen which means ending your run. You need to collect wood and stone to repair rooms back in your home screen, these rooms are where the stat increases are kept, which means you get better, which means you last longer. You need gold to buy stuff, sometimes experience, and eventually you can upgrade the rooms (worth it for the first skills room you open because you'll max that stuff out pretty quick. I've probably explained it pretty badly, but it's Game Dev Story addictive. I think it's about £2 on phones, but there's no in-app purchase bullshit, it's just about doing repeated runs, and harder runs once you've met the bonus requirements
  23. I had a quick look to see if there was a thread on this already and couldn't see one. I can understand why, as there's very little to the game itself, but t really deserves on, because that premise is fantastically simple but fiendishly difficult. You rotate an arrow while walls come into the centre and try to carve a path between the gaps for as long as you can, in the meantime the screen pulses and rotates trying to throw you off your stroke. It really is one of those zen games where you start watching yourself play and wonder how the fuck you just did it. Here's my best time in the short time I've spent with it. Those squares really fuck my shit up!
  24. EA Games has dropped free 2 play Real Racing 3 on iOS and Android devices yeasterday. It is properly fun racing sim and would recommed it to anyone who is into racing titles. You need a good WiFi connection for the download though. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nRZ9S9UmEgk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Has anyone tried this? Pretty cool little game, resource planning etc to start with as you tweak a disease to obliterate humanity, then as you start to win, it gets rather depressing really! Great game though
