I didn't actually read the images linked in the tweet I linked initially cause the font is so terrible, but this reads like a threat lol

There is also the looming question of what fate awaits. Whether you have experienced the original title or will embark on this adventure with fresh eyes, we hope you will face the ending of this work on your own terms. - Tetsuya Nomura

The story beats in these new games hit harder having played the original, it's sort of setup so that you are already supposed to be 'spoiled' so it's a good idea

VII doesn't really hold up gameplay wise though, it's very straightforward even compared to other FF. Still interesting and fun I suppose if you've literally never played it at all.

I absolutely adored the OG VII when I played it in Covid times. Sure the graphics took some getting used to but get used to them I did and then it hooked me fully. I think it’s fully deserving of the praise it received even now.

Anyway, yea you should really try plying through it before Remake. It really adds to the Remake experience.

This is what you get for having save data...

Over on the PS Store pre-order page, two bonus items are actually detailed. If you have save data for Final Fantasy VII Remake from either the PS5 or PS4 version, you'll get a Summon Materia for Leviathan. If you have save data from DLC Episode Intermission also, you'll get Summon Materia for Ramuh. You must have the save data available natively on your PS5 console to get the bonuses.

I'll say again that out of these three games they're remaking, this is the one I was really looking forward to. It really does have almost all the best moments and character beats and a much more expansive world. Shame we had to wait so long to leave Midgar, what took 5 hours in the original took 4 years.

I'm not even that bothered by the finale installment tbh, especially as that one is probably going to be very different to how it was in the original game. It's all about the second half of disc 1

Watching that footage, there's stuff now where you can swap characters in and out of the party during combat, like FFX had. Weird it took so long to bring back that (excellent) mechanic, especially with how well it works for this. It just seems like it's going to be a really mechanically deep game with all the groundwork done with VII Remake

People are saying Vincent won't be fully playable in this, yet Sephiroth is. Which is pretty weird (he was not controllable in the original

🤨 Sephiroth was absolutely playable in the original game...

Nibelheim? That coupled with the trailer leads me to believe this game will still finish with Disc One's content. There is speculation that the third pseudo-sequel will end at the >Spoiler-Free< Disc Two event.

He's not playable at all in that sequence in the 1997 game, he attacks automatically.

That's right! He was a playable character, not a player controlled one. I was misremembering his player portrait and going through his spell lists. He is of course where the infamous "Peerless" status came from.

Weirdly enough, my ire with these pseudo-sequels has cooled over the years. Might give this one a punt. The trailer looks more faithful, less fanfic than the last one.

  • 2 weeks later...

I only learned yesterday that this character apparently comes from Gaelic myth, the spelling is in Scot's Gaelic and would be pronounced as 'Ket Shee'. In Irish, it would be spelled Cait Sí, the 'fada' on the i giving it an 'eee' sound. Sí by itself was usually a female pronoun I think but looking online it's also a name for fairies, same with Sith I suppose in Scots. So it's Cat Fairy

I always pronounced it like 'Cawt Sith', cause that's how 'Cait' was pronounced where I live and Sith as in Darth Maul. If it had the Irish spelling I guess I would have figured it out sooner, cause it would look like the Irish spelling for Banshee (Bean Sí)

But as far as fucking up Gaelic myth goes, it's got nothing on FFXII's take on Cúchulainn lol. Square also had some weird pronunciations for Gaelic myth inspirations in FFXIV Shadowbringers. But because it's FFVII the discourse is more of a thing. Resetera makes me cringe in these situations.

Really tho makes me think why the fuck we can't call her Aeris. 'Aerith' still fucks me up
