HandsomeDead Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 Yep, I think it looks cool. Would be up for it but I dunno if I'll be getting a PS5 yet so the exclusivity is disappointing.
mfnick Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 Is it going to follow the template of XV and have the most boring and pointless open world ever? I was hoping theyd build on the FFVIIR combat in this too whereas it looks like they’re doubling down on the XV style - which was pretty bad. Although hearing the DMC guy is in charge this time might make all the difference.

Signs are positive so far this’ll be good, the FF14 guy who rejuvenated that game and brought it back from the ashes is producing, so I think it’s in safe hands. 1
one-armed dwarf Posted September 17, 2020 Author Posted September 17, 2020 Yea this game has basically a lot of the opposite of red flags. Guy who imo saved Final Fantasy with XIV as producer, one of the directors of said game is the director of this one. They got the brains behind DMC and Dragon Dogma combat on board so they should know how to do action. Right now tho it just has that Halo Infinite thing going on where it doesn't look very next gen. But then maybe they just aren't chasing visuals anymore and are targetting a more near release, which would honestly be better. FFXV had an amazing reveal trailer which was mostly made up of stuff that wasn't in the game at all with impossibly high production values, this at least looks achievable 1
one-armed dwarf Posted September 18, 2020 Author Posted September 18, 2020 This guy is cool Breaks down the trailer music and figures it's by Masayoshi Soken
one-armed dwarf Posted September 24, 2020 Author Posted September 24, 2020 I was thinking of this, this is the first FF I can ever think where the reveal trailer showed substantial gameplay and a lack of obvious pre-rendered scenes. Like you go back to XIII and XV's reveal trailers and there's so much BS (pretty BS but BS nonetheless) but everything here looks achievable and quite far along. 4 years would also track with the claim that it is the Heavensward team cause a bunch of them left XIV dev after the expac came out in 2015. Maybe this is conjecture also but I reckon MMO teams are used to pushing stuff out quick under pressure and XIV 2.0 was the turning point in Square's culture of not chasing visuals all the time and sticking to realistic project goals. I'm thinking we could see this in 22, like March 2022 or something like that. FFVII Remake part 2 will be the one we have to wait a very long time for.
one-armed dwarf Posted October 8, 2020 Author Posted October 8, 2020 Basic development is complete apparently https://www.gematsu.com/2020/10/final-fantasy-xvi-basic-development-and-scenario-production-already-complete They're hiring for boss battles
one-armed dwarf Posted October 29, 2020 Author Posted October 29, 2020 Artwork has that Tactics/Vagrant Story vibe.
Maryokutai Posted October 29, 2020 Posted October 29, 2020 Wow, those artworks look way more interesting than it does ingame.
one-armed dwarf Posted October 29, 2020 Author Posted October 29, 2020 Tbf FF character names are all sort of cringe. All named after weather Everybody in my FFXIV FC has some variant of 'Leonhart' in their display name, I hates it. I just name my characters after food, fuck all that 'Shadow Leonhart' stuff.
HandsomeDead Posted October 29, 2020 Posted October 29, 2020 Butz is the best FF character name. It's just downhill from there.
DisturbedSwan Posted October 29, 2020 Posted October 29, 2020 I hope Clive Owen voices Clive in the English dub, then we can double our money. Two Clives for the price of one.
one-armed dwarf Posted July 26, 2021 Author Posted July 26, 2021 They are prioritising 'British English' for the cutscenes and VA, eg the game isn't going to be a localisation of some anime stuff, it's gonna have a more western feel and tone https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/final-fantasy-16-is-prioritising-british-english-producer-reveals/ FFXIV has some GoT alumni in it, I think the performances in this could be pretty alright. Also encouraging on release dates, they say they would like to show it at TGS but probably can't meet that deadline cause they actually want to have something playable. Sounds like it's coming along fast by FF standards, especially given COVID
HandsomeDead Posted July 26, 2021 Posted July 26, 2021 It'll likely be classier than the bri'ish in Xenoblade Chronicles but I like to imagine if it was like that. Oh no, I'm finding myself looking at Reyn memes 😅
one-armed dwarf Posted December 27, 2021 Author Posted December 27, 2021 Another day, another covid delay This motherfucker will need a holiday soon
one-armed dwarf Posted May 6, 2022 Author Posted May 6, 2022 Apparently it's nearly complete Would be nice if it could be squeezed into 2022 still but wishful thinking maybe. 'Nearly complete' could mean a lot of things, content complete but lots of other stuff still needing work etc
