Call of Duty: Black Ops II

Yeah. It really is dire. I went from trampling Russians under my horses hooves while shooting tanks and choppers up with an RPG to fucking juggling shit I didn't care nor want to take part in. I felt like the fairground ride I was on got stuck.

The rampage section was fucking excellent, even though I've no idea what the fuck is going on and who these characters are I was really pumped for that bit. I really like the playing the same timeline bits. I don't like how America centric it is, I much prefered the other titles that having you fighting as many different nations. It's really surprised me, although some of it is rough as fuck and could do with work, I'm enjoying it a hell of a lot.

Love that radar gun too, it's such a simple idea but it works.

I'm getting optical internet next week, so I may venture online and see if it plays any better. I played a lot more of MW3 than I'd like to admit to in Texas because it actually played something like over there (along with Gears 3, it was like playing a fucking LAN game, no sponging!). I doubt I'll like it much but I might as well give it a fair go while I have the disc.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-03-12-activision-adds-in-game-purchases-called-micro-items-to-call-of-duty-black-ops-2

Activision has added in-game purchases, which it calls Micro Items, to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 13th March players will notice what Activision describes as "optional" Micro Items within the shooter. Activision community manager Dan Amrich said they were "either personal customisations or nice little luxuries that I've seen players request".

He insisted none of the Micro Items affect gameplay, rather they are "small, specific ways to enhance your online experience".

So, what, exactly, are they?

Personalisation Packs are like "dress-up for your favourite weapon". Each pack contains a unique weapon camo, three targeting reticles and a Calling Card. A set costs 160 Microsoft Points (the Micro Items launch first on Xbox 360, as is Call of Duty tradition, but will come to other platforms later). An example of one of these packs is the Bacon Personalisation Pack, which wraps your weapon in, yes, bacon.

Another example of a Micro Item is the Extra Slots Pack. This adds 10 more Create-a-Class slots and "significantly" expands your media storage, allowing you to archive 20 more emblems, 32 more films and 40 more screenshots. The pack costs 160 Microsoft Points.

And there's the Flags of the World Calling Card Packs, which include national flag-themed Calling Cards from countries around the world. These packs are divided by region and cost 80 Microsoft Points each.

Also included under the Micro Items banner is the Nuketown 2025 map, previously a bonus map awarded to those who pre-ordered and this week available for free, and Nuketown Zombies, previously available as part of the Hardened or Care Package editions of the game, now available as a standalone level for 400 Microsoft Points.

Micro-transactions have come under fire in recent weeks, with EA games in particular singled out for criticism.

Perhaps in anticipation of a bad reaction from customers, Amrich moved to pour cold water on fears about Call of Duty's Micro Items impact on gameplay.

"At the end of the day, all of these items are completely optional, and were created for players who've asked for more customization options," he said. "If that's not you, that's fine; everybody gets Nuketown 2025 for free, so definitely take advantage of that"

You could just put the map in rotation you arseholes. It's on the disc I presume.

I seem to recall having to input a code and download a file larger than a 108kb key. I am yet to play it.

I'm not bothered by these Micro Items. They don't affect the game for others, it's no different to character outfits for Super Street Fighter IV.

Imagine if Activision had introduced a Micro Item that allowed you to have a 'pick twelve' loadout instead of the regular pick ten. Then, there'd be an uproar.

Activision and Treyarch Set to Deliver One of Its Most Creative & Ambitious DLC Offerings to Date with Call of Duty: Black Ops II Uprising

Call of Duty fans are set to receive another premium offering of Downloadable Content with Call of Duty: Black Ops II Uprising on April 16. The game`s second, epic DLC pack of the year from award-winning studio Treyarch and Activision, a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, will be available first, exclusively on Xbox Live for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft beginning on April 16, with other platforms to follow. Call of Duty: Black Ops II Uprising will include four new exotic multiplayer maps, plus an exciting new Zombies experience called "Mob of the Dead" that takes players to Alcatraz with four of the actors behind some of Hollywood`s most iconic mobsters, including Ray Liotta, Chazz Palminteri, Joe Pantoliano, and Michael Madsen.

"With Uprising, the team has really outdone itself again," said Mark Lamia, Treyarch`s Studio Head. "In addition to creating four amazing new multiplayer maps, the Studio has been hard at work on the Zombies front to surpass what we accomplished with `Call of the Dead.` What they`ve done this time around is nothing Zombies fans have seen before - and if you don`t believe me, just wait until you get into Purgatory."

Following tradition of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops fan-favorite Zombies mode "Call of the Dead," Call of Duty: Black Ops II Uprising`s wildly creative new "Mob of the Dead" Zombies experience finds the four prohibition-era mobsters, Billy Handsome (Liotta), Al "The Weasel" Arlington (Pantoliano), Salvatore "Sal" DeLuca (Palminteri), and Michael "Finn" O`Leary (Madsen) serving time in Alcatraz Prison, only to discover that being behind bars is the least of their problems. With plans to break out of Alcatraz foiled by the rise of the undead, the quartet of inmates will have to lean on their mob-derived skills with firearms, blunt instruments and improvised weaponry as they battle the zombies infesting and overrunning the island. In order to survive, players must work their way through the steel cells and aging concrete buildings while fighting off a multitude of zombified prisoners and guards trapped on the island with them. Additionally, if a player becomes an unfortunate victim, "Mob of the Dead`s" new feature known as "Purgatory" sends players into the afterlife. This new twist on Zombies gameplay is ripe with its own set of objectives, and offers fans a truly new and unique experience.

Uprising also delivers another four new, exotic and diverse multiplayer maps set around the globe for fans to jump into. "Magma" is a modern Japanese village with volcanic eruptions carving multiple paths throughout the town. "Encore" takes place in the aftermath of a deserted London music festival and leaves numerous opportunities for run-and-gun, close quarters combat. "Vertigo" is a futuristic high rise in India housing a high-tech lab featuring dizzying vistas and multi-tiered pathways. Finally, "Studio" is a contemporary remake of "Firing Range," a fan-favorite multiplayer map from the original Call of Duty: Black Ops. "Studio" is a Hollywood movie back lot with a variety of cinematic themes that range from Sci-Fi to the Old West.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II Uprisingwill be available first, exclusively on Xbox Live for 1200 Microsoft Points on April 16. The Uprising DLC Map Pack is also included in the Call of Duty: Black Ops II DLC Season Pass*, where fans can purchase all four epic DLC Map Packs planned for the year, and also receive the Nuketown Zombies bonus map, and an exclusive in-game calling card as part of the discounted bundle offered at a suggested retail price of $49.99 or 4000 Microsoft Points.

I sat and finished the story. I'm not going to go deep into it, because I'll be here all day write a list of complaining shit out. I'll say this though.

Call of Duty is like tinned mince. You know it's not brilliant for you and it's full of crap, but you consume it anyway, because it's kind of nice to do so. It not something you'd want to make a habit out of, but for that time you spend with it it is ok.

On a side note, did anyone stay after the credits rolled? WTF was that all about?

The new maps are good. Magma is my favourite. Vertigo is good as well, and Studio being a remake of the classic Firing Range. I'm not so keen on Encore.

I've been playing this a fair bit recently, currently level 34 on my third Prestige. Cyberpunk and sibernet have been on a bit lately as well, and I even had a few games with Hendo a couple nights ago. Tonight we tried out Gun Game and Sharpshooter for a bit. So much fun. Then myself, Paul and Simon went into private match Gun Game on Studio and Nuketown 2025, two of the smaller maps. I was in stitches. If we could get a few more on there it'd be even better.

The private games RetroEd and I played with sibernet were proper belly laugh games. You don't level up in private games, but it was so much fun. We should get a game together with more people. Even someone as bad as I could hold my own on Gun Game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II Revisited. It's now backwards compatible on the Xbox One. Xbox Store has it for £39.99. I've heard CDKeys have £15 codes for it. Best of luck trying to find a second hand copy though. I'm glad I kept hold of mine.
