retroed
Bloody brilliant, isn't it? I have the original in a box somewhere, but I've never really spent much time with it, and certainly never finished it. I purchased Sonic 3 for 400 MS points yesterday and am currently on act 2 of the Casino levels. I've just got my seventh Chaos Emerald. It's really good stuff. Save states FTW though, really handy although they do take the pressure off. Oh, and the 'chieves are really easy.
retroed
Just finished this, 200G, and had an absolute blast with it. The ice cap intro was excellent, super fast and looked amazing for a 16-bit title. I can't believe I never played this that much when it was released, but I'm glad that I've played it through from start to finish at long last. I defeated Dr. Robotnik on the final stage with no rings whatsoever, hardcore!
illdog
Its ok i guess so far, just on the third stage so far, cant say im really enjoying it but im not disliking it. I always thought this one was my favorite from when i was a kid but it seems the original is holding up best. Still, early days, i shall plod on. DANGERMAN
Hmm, I was the same ill, it was my favourite too. It's not up on psn and ive no 360 points left, but that doesnt bode well for when that changes
retroed
Maybe it's because it's the first time I've given it a proper play through, but I enjoyed it a lot. I think I still prefer the first two, but this was a worthy sequel with some nice ideas.
HandsomeDead
I'm not touching this until we get Sonic & Knuckles too. They have to be played together.
illdog
I'm not touching this until we get Sonic & Knuckles too. They have to be played together. Yea, i think im gonna have to play that too, just for the closure, the ending was super pants. Sonic 3 did liven up a bit once i got all the chaos emeralds (worst mini games ever), it was fun to spank all over the bosses as Super Sonic. I think my underlining problem with Sonic games is just how easy it is to loose half a levels hard work collecting rings in an instant. Coming off a super speedy section where you dont have any control, suddenly gaining control, jumping and hitting an enemy that was just off screen but totally unavoidable due to the speed in which your travelling. Its just frustrating in my opinion and things like that happen alot. The levels seem so vast and sprawling there were times i had no idea if i was going the right way. The worst thing the game did to me was to put water in the Casino themed zone - my two ultimate Sonic hates.
HandsomeDead
Sonic & Knuckles is out now so I have been going through 3. It's not as good as I remember, the first one is the most focused and is best for speed runs, though you have the usual score system it feels like more of an adventure game and the scoring side of it seem pointless now. Generally it all has the not as good as Sonic 1 & 2 thing. I used to be able to get all the emeralds before the second level but the 360's d-pad makes it a nightmare and I won't be seeing Sonic 3 & Knuckles bonus level at the end on my first play through. So far S&K is still great, its full of more original obstacles and better levels. If you play the games stacked you get no 'ments which is a little shit, I did get half the 'ments on the first level on Sonic 3 though.
DANGERMAN
I got about halfway through S&K then the game glitched and I had to circle back around. Problem was because I'd already destroyed the lever to lower a wall it was gone, but the wall was back up and I couldnt get past I might have another crack at it later, this time as knuckles
DANGERMAN
I've really been struggling to find the special stages in this, think I hit 4 in the entire game and only beat 2 of those. Maybe it's just that I dont know the game aswell as I know Sonic 3. One thing I will say though is that it's a bigger game than I remember, probably as many stages, but they take quite a long time to beat. I bought Sonic 2 aswell because of this, but i'm feeling a bit Soniced out so it's going to have to wait for a quiet rainy sunday or something
illdog
Uuuh, Sonic & Knuckles is awful. You cant navigate around any of these fucking games without hitting something and lossing all your rings.. You hit a spring it ulimately delivers you to your doom, you jump of a blind ledge and either die straight out or land on spikes or something. So frustrating. Robotnic at the end of the first level was dire, and what the fuck are the bonus levels about? How the hell do you get Chaos Emeralds? All i ever get is all my rings taken away. Im on the second level, Flying Battery Bollocks or something and i just hate it.
DANGERMAN
The check point bonus stages are shit in this one, but the emerald bonus stages are the giant rings that are hidden in walls. As for the rest of it, I dont know man, S&K is easier than a lot of the older Sonics imo, particularly the bosses (final boss is really easy but very easy to fuck up). Sambob
I think we have just witnessed the breaking of the world record for distance a dummy has travelled once spat. Everyone give yourself a pat on the back, this is a day to remember. I played these a long time back when the freeloader disc worked for the Wii, I bought the Gamecube sonic compendium or some shit. I loved them, but the bonus stages were fucking infuriatingly difficult, i still fuck juiced all over them though, and then photographed this event and sent it to their parents. I love the nostalgia in the game, but ive got to say that one particular boss (the robotnik near the end where knuckles hits sonic off a ledge or something and you jump onto robotniks ship or something, and then it goes dark in the background) is probably one of my most frustrating gaming moments evor, I cracked a pad and my face was the reddest it has ever been when playing this. Everyone give yourself a pat on the back, this is a day to remember. Prepare to stand further back bitch, im spitting again. A moment in the Sancockolis level just opitomized what i hate about this game. Im travelling upward, im on a platform (a big solid block of a platform connected by black circles to fixed point) that swings when you stand on it. You wait for the platform to swing clockwise to the top of a big colomn of sand and jump off, the object being to then grab hold of a bar above you that turns on the lights. I just missed said bar but instead of landing on the floor below you land on spikes thatjust appear out of the ground. Thats shit! So i survived that, went to jump back on the bar again and i went straight through it and landed on the spikes, this time with no rings leading to obvious death. I turned it off in disgust for the billionth time.
DANGERMAN
I know the exact bit but i didnt have any problems Actually I missed that bar too and had to go back and push that switch again like 3 times.

Sly Reflex
Well, that's the 3rd one down and done. Did I enjoy it? No. Well, that's a lie, some of it was awesome. A lot of it was really boring. I like the power ups you could get as well, the bubble and magnetic shield really did come in handy and added to the whole thing. It made the game more bearable. The emerald game was really shit. Indescribably shit. This is the 1st sonic game I have played with shit music as well. Why did they change invincible theme? WTF is that shit playing in Carnival Zone? Sonic 2 still remains the top of the pile for me. So who should I play as in the next game? Sonic or Knuckles?
HandsomeDead
Its said that Micheal Jackson was supposed to do the music in Sonic 3, others say Micheal Jackson did do it and kept it quiet because he may or may not be a peado. I liked the ice stage zone music, though. Play Sonic & Knuckles as Sonic... more levels.
