Completed Gears of War 2 on Hardcore with my brother on Friday night. Terrific experience, even if I think it doesn't quite match up to the first game in terms of the campaign. Also cleared Mirror's Edge last night, managed to do it without shooting anyone too. I felt the level design often undermined the conceit and controls, but there's fun to be had there, especially in the speedruns. And finally: I cleared Fallout 3 yesterday. Well, I say cleared, I've done all but one of the main side-quests and the story questline. As the game STUPIDLY doesn't log the other, smaller, quests in the journal they're an absolute chore to complete. Where to start.....mmm. Okay. It looks great, lighting great, sound lovely. Lots of great big open levels. And thats about it. The removal of the Elites as an enemy limits the opposition challenge. Several guns I never used. The last level was essentially Halo 1 but in a 'big area'. The plot was nonsensical, there was no feeling of tension. Like Rumblecat said ages ago, I was expecting more of a fight for survival on Earth, not galvanting round the galaxy for something I could barely remember in Halo 2. Still online playing is very good, feels balenced and the maps are well made. I'm also not as bad online as I thought. But if I paid £40+ for this on release day, I'd be very very miffed.
