I picked this up over the weekend, I'd heard it was really short so I figured it'd be a good thing to play before Bioshock came out. Either I play Crysis wrong or the talk of a 5 hour campaign was nonsense. I don't really know what to say about it other than it feels exactly like Crysis 2 but is actually fairly different. Crysis 2 was a series of puzzle boxes to play about in, do puzzle box 3 to move on to 4. Crysis 3 has a better flow to it, the areas feel a bit more sprawling, and if you are locked in it justifies it a bit better. You're back in New York but it looks completely different, it's like you mixed the first games jungle with the seconds city. It also looks and runs better than Crysis 2, at least in areas where there isn't lots of flowing grass. Enemies are still a bit too eagle eyed for my liking, I still feel hugely reliant on the stealth suit skill, which means I'm slowly luring people to their deaths. the bow is pretty good but there's not a lot of ammo for it. I wish they encouraged verticality a bit more, the game is way less flat than Crysis and Crysis 2, but it's rare you can actually climb any of the structures. And they still haven't explained what happened to Nomad at the end of the first game, in fact that you're playing as Prophet again confused me for a while, I think I might vaguely remember what happened there though. I doubt there's going to be a lot of takeup for this on here, but it's a decent game

So this is free on the PS+ at the moment so I'm giving some impressions for you all. It's Dead or Alive again to be honest. That's it. The combat system remains pretty much unchanged. I took my old main, Ayane, into a few fights and I was instantly in a place where I knew exactly what i was doing so little has changed. If you want a crash course in Dead or Alive then all you need to know is the rock, paper, scissors type mechanics. If someone is spamming you with hits then use the counters, if someone is countering use those throws while they are in the counter animation, and if someone is throwing a lot then use strikes on them which are quicker to hit. That's the basics, and understanding the nuances of each combo and character fleshes that out more and there is a great variety in the characters fighting styles. It's a fun fighting game, and one that's pretty easy to get into as well as having depth to master. It's not really tournament level but for regular Joes it's fun. But the problem is that it is still Dead or Alive. You still have the weird fetish-y baby faced female characters with massive sentient tits and an overall rubbishy art direction. And this time you have a proper story mode for the first time and it's really, really weird. It's like a Erotic Saturday Morning Cartoon... the plot is stupid, the characters interact weirdly... I don't know what to make of it... It really has stumped me.... I mean it was always stupid but totally throwaway, but this is some finely tuned trash. But yeah, that's Dead or Alive 5. Buy it.

Picked this up today £35 at tesco, read some good things about this, will post impressions tomorrow. No one else got this?? The last game was awesome, and im a big fan of the psp games so hopefully this will be just as good.

Played a few hours and it's been very, very good. It's very much another game that's taken more than a few pages from Uncharted's playbook, except it switches a wise-cracking protagonist for someone much more vulnerable and insecure. Well, at least to start with anyway. I've always loved the Tomb Raider series, the original TR was the first ever game I bought for the PS1 and I played it to death, but the series was massively in need of a complete reboot. They've done a fantastic job with this game and the character. Lara is almost unrecognisable from her hotpants wearing, confident predecessor. I say almost as they decided to stick with her two most distinguishing features for some reason. Cans . The sections where you squeeze through a gap or are only able to progress forwards are probably the most elegant way of disguising a load screen I can think of. It's totally seamless and in some case even adds to the experience by allowing Lara time to express how she's feeling. The same goes for the logs she records at some of the base camps, only a few lines of dialogue, but it adds so much. Each area seems to have a discreet sub-objective like smash 10 lanterns or burn 5 banners, and they only activate once you hit the first thing, you're not notified about it otherwise. I can see myself spending a chunk of time completing these as well as picking up all the collectables dotted around. I tried turning on the new TressFX hair technology but it looks a bit weird tbh. It also hits the framerate pretty hard in certain situations. It's a cool idea as game hair usually looks pretty rubbish, but it definitely needs tweaking a bit before making it standard.

I thought since I've done a run of it I'll give some impressions. It's just one crazy action game. Mostly its about combos, weaken the guy then cut him into tiny bits. It's actually fairly easy as an accurate strike cuts the guts out of your enemies and squeezing its juice all over yourself fills your health up so while it can get hectic you're never far away from health, and getting used to the manual slicing isn't that much of a problem. You don't even need to use combos, you can just mash your way through the rest of it. There are Ninja Gaiden style combos to learn but it's not necessary on Normal at least. I did most of the game with the sword though can apply secondary weapons to the triangle/Y button and all I did was keep the staff from the first boss as it is good at area attacks. I've started a hard run and I'm probably gonna dive into the combat system more to see what it's really made of. The only issues with it are the camera (just as bad as NG2's but with the addition of some of the environments being very narrow) and the story (yes, you can skip it but there is no attempt at telling it outside of long cutscenes and longer codec conversations).

i rented this to play some coop, not really an aliens fan, it's not great. anyway, had some bugs - first of all i had no main gun, the guy has his hands out like hes holding a gun but there's nothing there, so i had to use the shotgun and pistol only, rebooting the xbox didn't even fix that. another point my friend fell through the scenery in the game. we had trouble on a few sections with the difficulty despite being on the easiest mode, but it does look like the coop is supposed to be for 4 people.

The opening to this game is incredible, they went full blown Uncharted this time around and it works brilliantly. Very glad to see the game proper starts with interleaved vid screen static, I was getting worried as it's kind of a tradition for the series. First things first, make sure you pop into the options menu before you start and switch on classic aiming. This will turn on the classic Dead Space laser sights rather just a reticle. Not sure why this isn't on by default tbh. The change to universal ammo seems to work okay if a little wonky. The two initial weapons you have, a plasma cutter and a submachine gun, don't add up. Reloading the Plasma Cutter from empty uses up 5 clips and gives 10 shots, whereas the Submachine gun uses up 4 clips and give 20 shots. There doesn't appear to be any stats up front for the guns so this is a bit puzzling. I just assumed that universal ammo clips would reload all guns on a one-to-one ratio i.e. one clip per refill. Probably should worry too much, but I like to know how far my resources will go at all times. I really need to get out of the habit of constantly reloading as I usually would in the previous games. Doing this will use up your clips fast as even refilling one shot will use up one clip at a minimum. The new Waster enemies you meet early on are very cool, like a thinking mans Slasher. Because of the way they evolve as you dismember them, going for the easy shots may not be the best way to tackle them depending on the other enemies you're facing. Not liking that they've kept the stamp enemies for loot thing from Dead Space 2, it's kind of annoying to have to stamp everything and see if items jump out. I always imagine Isaac catching these in mid air like the Fonz or something. I'm wondering how the difficulty will pan out as I quickly filled my inventory up with med-packs and ammo during the early part of the first chapter. I started on Hard, but I think this is more like Normal from the previous games. May have to ramp it up another notch if this carries on. I don't want to have plentiful ammo and health constantly as it really lowers the tension.

Either I'm blind or at least 3 of you are lazy bastards. So, it's Hitman through and through and I'm happy not to have found the criticisms accurate at all. The amount of content and replayability is thrown into your face immediately and the controls are introduced in a fine way. The levels so far have been varied and each one looks real pretty. Even when there's 100's of people walking around. I was concerned the pedestrians would resemble a Fifa crowd (100 of them blow their nose, then the other 100 all bend down and tie their laces) but they're mostly unique as far as I can tell. The music is great, as Hitman's usually are and the cinematics are nice to look at. So I really like it.. Oh and there's a lot of Easter Eggs.

Tidy! Takes a while to get going, but while it's doing all the story stuff at least it's nice to look at. Before you 'properly' start the game you get some story about Oliver and why he's going to the Another World, you get to run around in Oliver's world for a bit, and it's nice to see a relatively normal world done in this style in a game. It's not long though before you're taken to the other world and you say goodbye to your prick of a mate and form an abusive relationship with an emotionally crippling welsh thing. I really like the character designs in this so far, they suffer a bit like Dragon Quest/Pokemon in that some of them look like skewed real world creatures, that's a bit cliche. Some of them though look unique, which makes a bit of a change, and might be Ghibli's influence. The fighting is decent, but a bit easy at the minute. So long as you aren't performing a move you can move about in the battle arena which means you can dodge attacks (presuming you're quicker than the enemy). You can choose what to do, so attack, use an item, use magic, all of these have a cooldown of sorts. For the first hour or so you'll pretty much only be able to attack and defend, attacking doesn't have a cooldown as such, instead you continue attacking for the certain time. I've put a couple of hours in and have a familiar now, a little guy who is better in a fight than Oliver (though Oliver's magic is more suited to some enemies). He has his own special move but it costs quite a lot of magic, which you share (same with health), he can also only stay in play for a certain amount of time before you have to switch him out. I assume it'll get more complicated later once you can have more than 1 person in your team and familiars with differing strengths. So far though the closest thing to strategy is gambling on using your magic and health, enemies drop health/magic orbs that recover a bit of either. It means that getting in to fights is sometimes worth doing even if you're low on health, and it means patience and picking your attacks is more important with bosses. So far it's good, and I'm very much still in the early stages even though I'm a couple of hours in, but it's far too easy at the minute

Been playing this for a bit. Playing using the same 3 characters as the Giant Bomb video - the knight, twins and monk. I'm not sure as the usefulness of the twins as yet but the knight's shield is good and the monk's telekinesis seems invaluable. I'm not convinced with the control feel - it just feels a bit sticky, a bit too heavy. It looks fantastic and it's Ron Gilbert and Double Fine so the writing is top notch. The trial is pretty short, then I unlocked the full game and got some kind of almost game-breaking bug where the camera wouldn't follow my character but I also couldn't change my character. I'm not sure how I got out of it but I ended up saving and quitting a few times. I'm currently stuck on a puzzle that is most likely staring me in the face but I have a minecart to deliver and no sign of what should go in it.

I wanted to start this thread mainly so "run" could be in the sub-title bit, and maybe a video, but that bit has gone so i'll have to type something about the game i guess. i'm quite far in, about 3/4, wasn't enjoying it at first, there's lots of story/unnecessary stuff at the start, and i was just hammering the same button to win (playing on easy), but as the games gone on it introduces new stuff at a nice (in this case slow) pace and forces you to use different attacks/mix it up a bit, so i started to have some more fun with it, to the point i'm enjoying it now, it's fun. Even on easy it's not so easy you don't have to think about it, you don't have to think much mind - just enough to make it fun. the controls could get confusing though, there are a lot of button combos you need to know, but the slow introduction of new stuff helps here and i haven't struggled too much with the controls. there's lots of platformey type bits which mix it up a bit, they aren't bad but aren't particularly good either. so yeah good stuff, after a slow start imo anyway.

Any one else been playing this? I know a lot of people know all about it here because I heard about it from them. It looks like a NES game, it sounds like a NES game (super turtles like theme tune) but it doesnt really play like any NES game i ever played. Its like a spoof version of GTA in 8 bit. Its all about missions, going from A to B, then back to A. The humour is a million miles a minute, every time you do something its a piss take of something else and most of the time its pretty funny. You have your main story mission as well as lots of little side missions which are mostly about killing sprees. I have two problems with it, put simply: its hard to see sometimes just what the fucks going on due to the graphical style and colour and it can get a little samey. BUT, its only 800 points and its well worth the money for the amount of game on offer.

I spent a bit of time playing this last night and was quite impressed with what they've done. Considering I didn't think it was going to work at all, it was a nice surprise. The only game mode available in the beta is Favour of the Gods, both team and ffa flavours. You have to run around the arena, gain favour at each of the altars dotted around and defend your captured altars from the enemy team. It only takes about 5-10 seconds (depending on whether it is currently captured or not) so the altars can switch sides frequently. Each altar you capture gains your team "Favour" and it's these points that allow you to win the match, around 8000 for the team game. There's no explanation of how the game works so most players are treating it like a standard deathmatch and just killing each other over and over. You get points for kills but the lion's share is gained by capturing the altars. Hopefully this will change in time as everyone gets more familiar and it'll make the matches slightly less one-sided. The combat is standard God of War fare with weak and strong attacks, block, dodge and a kick. You have a two special moves at your disposal which are dependent on the weapon you have equipped, a magic spell and a choice of various items. Round that out with a ranged throw, the ability to parry weak attacks and executions and you've got something that's fast, responsive and violent. They've included an experience and leveling system which unlocks better armour to improve your stats and grants you points to spend on unlocking or upgrading new abilities. It's worth having a go if you're a PS+ subscriber as it's a bit different to other multiplayer games out there. Should be a fun little distraction when the full game is released.

Old/New Dreamcast game anyone? Its a helicoptor shooter. Its not bullet hell. It only has five stages, then repeats the stages by mirroring. Its oddly addictive. Unlike most shooters these days it doesnt start out with infinite credits, these are earned by playtime. Every hour another continue is rewarded untill you go past 9 credits, then it unlocks free play. Umm... score wise it seems best to use your 'option', of which there are 3 types, Vulcan (machine gun), Cannon (slow but powerful) and Rocket (not always accurate but pretty much fucks up everything it touches). Enemies killed by the option are worth alot more points. The option can be released by pressing the fire button after a small period of bullet inactivity (measured by a gauge on screen). Obviously whilst charging your option you are left pretty exposed, having to dodge enemy bullets and risking letting the screen fill up with more bad guys. Ive finished it now but i cant say i ever fell in love with it. The bullets can be a little hard to see and the chopper can be a little clunky but i think it boils down to the fact that ive been spoiled by Futari, ESP and Deathsmiles with their vivid colour schemes and screen after screen of bullets. This is bland in comparison. Not unenjoayable, just ditincly average. Decent soundtrack though.

I'm such a noob at times. I've never played more than a few minutes of Doom 3 before as it just past me by. No idea why I never got it at the time: I had an Xbox, I was quite into shooters at the time and I like monsters. Can't really figure out why I wasn't there. Maybe it was because it had some negative reception, I dunno. Anyway, I'm playing it now and I'm quite surprised how much I'm enjoying it. All it is is a ghost train with monsters you shoot at and it overuses the 'spawn enemies behind you' trick a bit to often as I've learned to pretty much always check my 6 (maybe that's the point?) but I've3 been yelping and laughing my way through, always being slightly lost, so it's not like it isn't fun. Though I do wish the weapons had more kick to them, like I just wish it felt a bit better killing things. On this collection Doom and Doom 2 are also there, and I've also never played Doom... I got Doom 2 on sale on XBLA and played it a bit. I actually really enjoyed my brief time with it and I'm liking Doom even more. That's a game that's still fun to play. The movement feels like you're coasting and sometimes there are loads of enemies and weaving about while shooting that hellishly satisfying shotgun is some top gaming. I think that's what annoys about Doom 3 a little; I wish the shooting felt as good as that. So yeah, it's 2013 and I think I may have just properly discovered Doom. Dunno if you've heard but it's good.

I remember the glory days of playing Tekken 3 on the PS1, and the not so glory days of playing Tekken 4 and the first tag tournament on PS2, the latter two were average at best so I lost enthusiasm to try 5 or 6 moving instead to soul calibour and Mortal Kombat, however seeing the new tag tournament in the shops brought back memories and I decided to give it another go. I'm very glad I did! It arrived yesterday and I've been playing it non stop since. The first thing I noticed was the sense of real power, the sound vibration and graphics all combined perfectly to convey a sense of power from the characters I haven't felt with other beat 'em ups. There's also a massive list of characters to choose from, mastering them all would take all year. The game is a lot more balanced then previous installments as well, Eddie is no longer a button bash your way to glory character, yes you can button bash him but you wont get too far, the game actually rewards good fighting and learning the characters so you don't get the annoying old scenario where you spend weeks mastering Hwoarang and then some little git comes along and button bashes Eddie, beating you in no time flat. To balance things out further it now also uses a true skill system, you go up belts, from Kyu to Dans which works well for online multiplayer, the true skill means you battle people around your level, however offline it's a bit pointless to start with as until you get into the higher Dans the levels are all about the same, pretty easy. The achievements for the game are also really simple, I got 20/50 in the first couple hours of play without even trying, none of them are hard to get. Arcade mode is so easy no matter what belts you're fighting, you just seem to stroll through until the final stage which is a bit rubbish but the other modes make up for it. Speaking of other modes, it has a fight academy to teach bad players how to get better, but it really just shows the basics unfortunately, it uses combot to teach movement, blocking, simple limb movement, punishers, throw breaks and tag dynamics, the special moves for each character and combos you have to teach yourself in practice mode. It also has a customise section where you can buy and change clothing and items, a bit like soul calibour but without the abilities side of it, and you can equip random and silly things if you want. No story to the game though which is probably it's biggest let down but that's ok because it's just fantastic arcade fun! It's hard to describe just what's so great about this game but the gameplay really is a lot of fun. Overall then it's too easy to begin with and lacks a story mode but that doesn't matter because this game is incredible fun, more fun then I've had from a game in ages and I'd highly recommend it to everyone. 8.5/10 So, I thought I'd start a thread so people could arrange matches and talk about the setups they're using. I'm a Jin player myself, I did start off teaming him up with Eddie but I've switched that to Nina now because they both like each other so they give each other +1 Netsu activation and can do combination tag throws. Item wise I've given Nina a handgun so if I'm in a stand-off position with neither one of us advancing I can just tag and shoot them. I'm currently hammering practise mode to learn Jins 10 hit combo and then move on to Ninas. If anyone fancies a fight let me know!

Well no-one else will so I'll start a topic. I'm very early on, done the mission for the doctor which turns a little "odd". I'm always running out of space in my wallet and my crafting pouch so I'm gonna have to take some time out of the main quest to make some bigger pouches. Having seen what the PC version looks like, the 360 version is definitely poorer visually but it's still passable.

so it's like the last one, arcade racer with loads of sega characters. it's good - nice handling, varied and mostly fun single player events - time trials, boost events, drift events, dodging traffic and flying through loops are my favorites. the tracks are mostly ace, really bright and exciting, there's a few boring bits mind, they've got ones based on samba de amigo, jet set radio, golden axe, skies of arcadia. did some time trialling on the billy hatcher track, didn't beat the expert ghost but it was really good fun, i'm still crap at the last corner, and i managed to fall through the floor a few times. didn't like all the event types, the elimination ones are a bit boring because of lack of weapons, but that's good for the races so i won't complain too much. don't like the online but that's probably just me, i don't like most racing games with weapons, and prefer the non-racing events in single player. each race has 3 difficulty levels (giving you 1/2/3 stars) that also determine the speed like 50/100/150cc in mario kart. playing on normal it's pretty hard starting out, but as i've played more i'm finding it easier, maybe something to do with leveling your car up - although i'm not sure that has a big effect - just lets you tune it to your preferred style a bit (better speed/boost/handling etc). in campaign mode you need the stars to unlock new events and characters - seems you can unlock a good amount just playing on easy, but you'll need to play on medium or above to unlock have it on rental and was going to pick it up when it gets cheaper but it's only ~£25 from asda so i might just buy it... see from the chart thread other people have been playing - what think you?

Literally just finished installing the game now, downloaded the Nuketown 2025 map and the 26MB day one patch. The first thing you hear when you boot up the game and watch the intro is Elbow's The Night Will Always Win. More impressions will follow when I've had some games. I'm looking forward to digging into the new perks system.

I picked this up on the pc the other day for a fiver, supposedly the story is great, clever even, but the game itself is a bit so so. Which so far is about where I am with it, it's a less fun MW. I'm also struggling to sit and play it for an extended duration, as soon as a checkpoint ends I feel the urge to turn it off for a while. The story is fairly interesting so far, it's not hit the twist yet, but knowing that something terrible and fucked has happened is enough to keep you interested in what's going on It looks fairly good, the AA isn't really doing enough considering how many hanging wires there are. It's pretty well acted too, it's been Northified so you'd expect that, but he seems to be the worst of the 3 main ones so far

Played about an hour and haven't got any of the Bioshock style powers yet, but it's done a pretty good job of teaching you some of the basics. The tutorials are hidden as gameplay elements (follow someone, play hide and seek etc), but a little on the nose for a while, once things start to kick off though it does a better job of setting things up so that if you want to do a stealth kill then you'll get an easy chance, if you want to do a drop attack then there's a convenient pipe above a guard. Or you could just walk up and stab people, whatever annoyingly on the pc it's got the same quirk Witcher 2 did, that it's 2 handed attacks mapped to the opposite mouse button, so the sword in your right hand is mapped to the left mouse button, while the gun in your left... Not a big deal but I did alert a few guards by dropping down and shooting a guard in the head instead of a nice quiet throat slit

So it's like rock band pro guitar, except you can use any guitar, and the notes are displayed differently. There's a 2d representation of the guitar neck, with notes coming towards it from behind, so it's like a 3d note chart, so yeah it can be pretty confusing. Probably a bit less confusing than the rockband version for me though. You can flip the guitar neck upside down so it looks more like guitar tab. It starts off pretty easy with barely any notes to play, I have played guitar a bit before but not much in the last 10 years and even back then I was a noob. It has some dynamic difficulty thing going on so as I'm not a complete beginner it upped the difficulty, then when I started missing a load of stuff it drops it back down - this seeme to work pretty well at keeping it not too easy and not too hard, for me anyway. I've just been playing through the main career type mode where it gives you some songs to play one at a time, then when you've played them each to a reasonable standard it suggests you play the 3 or so songs in a set list all together and if you do wel enough you get to play an encore song. I think you can just ignore this and play whatever songs you want though as I played high and dry from a list of songs. There's a practice mode and arcade games that are supposed to help teach guitar technique, not tried those yet. The recognition works well for single notes but chords it seems to struggle sometimes, although I'm probably not playing it that cleanly. and it can be a bit slow giving you credit for hitting the chords as it has to work it out. It's very lax on hit windows, I don't really see that as a bad thing though. So yeah I've been enjoying it, and unsurprisingly my fingers hurt a bit now. Anyone else giving this a go?

I've put about an hour or so in to it so far, so far the opening is much better than the first game. In the first game once Claptrap had led you to the first town the first few quests all involved going to the same couple of places, this might yet be the same but it feels a bit more tunnelled so you see new areas. They seem to have done a bit more with the incidental characters too, the quest givers have got more than 3 lines now. The enemies bounce around more than they used to. The bandits roll to avoid bullets, and the bullymongs (a bit like skags only bigger and faster) jump around. It's quite hard hitting them regardless of the accuracy of your gun, and letting them get in close with a slow reloading shotgun is a bit risky. It runs well on the pc, but the unreal engine load in is still there, more often when you open a box and the bullet/money textures need to load. And on that note, things like changing what the boxes look like was a good way of making it feel fresher than the first game, and you start in a snowy area rather than another desert area
