I had an issue with my PC this morning, turned it on and a black screen and loud fans from the GPU. Took the GPU out and put in another PCI-e slot and it was fine, took it out again and put it back in the original slot and it's fine. PC is on its side now. I haven't had an issue like that with this or my previous PC, I suppose it just got loose? I don't really know. My 2060 is a pretty big boy, my previous was an r9 390 which while large wasn't as heavy as this card maybe. Maybe I need legos too

I dont see the issue, didnt they make a real life Nemesis or something. Use that to deliver the copies during the outbreak

You almost never get generation defining games out the gate so none of this is really new or surprising I think. Breath of the Wild is the exception but that was supposed to be a Wii U seller.

Not sure if there are any left, but the site is down right now.

Nvidia released an update to their DLSS tech in their latest drivers. DLSS is their AI deep learning algorithm for reconstructing images. I actually don't really know what those words I typed mean, but it has something to do with the tech they use to upscale an image from a lower resolution to a higher one. Or how they 'reconstruct' it, so think of something like checkerboarding in PS4 Pro but way more sophisticated. Anyway on my RTX 2060 it's now possible to run this game maxed out at '1080p' with all ray tracing settings set to full. Generally speaking it is hard to see the difference between DLSS off and on, it does a pretty good job now of 'tricking' you into thinking its native. There are parts however where you can see the image corruption a little, signs and text on posters can still look sort of bad. If there's light shining on a carpet or a door with a weird surface it can look very noisy and it will be obvious it's being reconstructed. But for the most part this is a very nice compromise. Interesting to think that the next gen consoles will be so powerful they might that they might use stuff like this to have ray tracing at super high resolutions and high framerates. This image is reconstructed from 720p. From a distance it looks fine but look closely and you can see some weird stuff (like her hair). At a higher resolution it would hide the discrepancies a lot better

I watched the second part of that documentary. It got taken down from that guy's youtube channel so I actually went and set up a VPN to see it (it's US only). It's an excellent tho harrowing expose of how little attention was given to the welfare of WWE's talent, until a huge crisis like this thing happened. Not that it was the first but I assume it was just so beyond the pale that there was no way things could be the same after it. Shows that it's not all glitz and glamour I guess. Again I haven't watched wrestling since about 2000 or so but smashing peoples heads into chairs and diving headbutts were just the done thing then.

I agree with a lot of the west coast's take on Doom, but I think more needs to be said about how great it feels to move around and destroy an arena of enemies. There's glimpses of an action game masterpiece in there that I hope more people get to see.

No, we're on a new page so lets pretend it never happened. What do people think of the soundtrack? Kind of forgettable to me so far compared with 2016

Maf your opinions and takes on just about everything are so shit that it never ceases to amaze, even if you are just taking the piss

Hmm, I disagree that this has more of an identity. What I loved about DOOM 2016 is it was such a strong thesis statement of how to make something old feel new. How to take the style of old Doom and give it a new attitude that didn't feel retrograde. That intro is a top all time intro for me, a super strong statement of 'doom is back baby'. I do think that DMC FPS is right tho, one tip I'm going to recommend to ppl to enjoy the game more is invest in 'Air Control' and the slowdown power up and use in conjunction with the shotgun's hook shot. What you get then is a grabby arm ability like Nero's/Dante's but which you can use to slingshot yourself around enemies and generate huge momentum to barrel across the map. It's much more than a distance closer that way and it has incredible utility. It's cooler than dash also as the dash doesn't generate momentum as such, it just shifts you ahead a few yards. Other weapons have different movement properties too, which I'll allow ppl to figure out themselves. I just found that that Air Control is one a lot of ppl might miss out on which has huge gameplay benefits. edit I might be mistaken about the 'generating momentum' bit maybe, either way it's huge fun to use

I know, I just don't really want to do that. Anyway WRT handshakes I spent the entire morning debugging another developer not being able to call an API I made.. because our VPN is overloaded. Requests constantly timing out. Just would rather not bother having the same issues with a game I play too. Anyway it's an easy thing to work around so no big deal (doom I mean)

I'm struggling to get through this and basically turned it off last night and did something else. The only thing this game does well is combat, sadly. In every other aspect DOOM 2016 is a far better game. An entire level swimming through spicy water, fuck off with this. It isn't endearing or interesting that you went so old school that you remade the shit parts of old Doom as well

PSN lowering speeds for corona Outbreak https://blog.us.playstation.com/2020/03/24/preserving-internet-access-for-the-entire-community/ This is one of a few reasons why I didn't want to set up a Bethesda ac for doom if I didnt have to, I think a lot of these services might be getting pruned or running suboptimal We are having massive issues with our VPN and azure hosting at work also.

I heard doom 64 is actually really good

You know I was literally just looking at Rift S just now cause I still want to play this. Creeeepy

The difficulty for me peaked around missions 3 and 4, I think. Before I got more comfortable and had more tools. The missions after that are harder but you are also better at the game by then. Mission 6 is incredible fun. I died a lot though, so I had lots of practice I guess. Some fights take me over an hour, which I'm ok with when the action is as good as this. But I am a moron who will play anything like this over and over if there's a good combat puzzle to figure out
-
I watched some gameplay online (?) including the ending, it's an extremely impressive bit of tech and I'm sad I can't play it. Looks like a real step forward for VR as a medium.

I havent watched wrestling in about 20 years but Vice have this interesting documentary called Dark Side of the Ring, about Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit. Both of which are figures I recognise at least (and of course I know what happened with Benoit). I've only watched half so far but it is pretty interesting, not a light subject matter however. Also they have a tendency in the doc to call every deceased wrestler the best of all time, or maybe Benoit actually had that reputation and I didn't realise? I dunno. edit part 2 is on his channel too.

Just use the chainsaw to mop up weaker enemies. For the most part you are just supposed to shoot the bigger ones. If you're regularly sawing up the little shits you never seem to have major ammo issues. What I usually do is use the chainsaw to get a breather in a fight, a few seconds to think, or to clear a path if I'm blocked by an imp or whatever I think also avoiding damage is less about dodging the stuff that's moving at you than it is about just constantly moving in a non-straight direction, vertically and horizontally.
-
I slayed too hard. Tho it is fitting that I break the game while using this particular weapon. WRT your ammo issues Nag the trick is to use the chainsaw frequently. It can home in from a certain distance so it's also a nice get out of jail free. It has a 15 second cooldown too so it can be used all the time nearly.

I think it's a great game which is constantly in an act of self sabotage with itself. I'm not far from the end, I think. But some of this back half makes me think they started with the middle to late game missions first and phoned in the early game. Like their single motivation was this extreme skill arena brawler FPS thing and they forgot how to pace the early game where it feels sort of bad (and unforgiving). I would say that to anyone having a rough time of it at the beginning. But then I really like busy combat systems in games so maybe this is sort of what I'm wired to like anyway. But the game makes some really bad design decisions with some enemies later on where it feels like you're fighting a Dark Souls boss. Doom is a game about movement and momentum, not about pausing to read enemy tells and exploit openings. It's impossible to overstate how shit these bits feel once you've been swinging through the air like a bloodthirsty spiderman, when the intensity just gets suddenly replaced by something which feels like a turn based combat system in comparison. It's a really messy and annoying game that I love once it allows the good parts to shine. I will probably play more of this on a higher difficulty but I'm going to ignore the bad missions when I do.

Yes well I warned you because I am a nice doom slayer ?

I did one of these slayer gate things. First second or two has a mission objective on it, if ppl care about story spoilers (lol_ This was very relaxing and not stressful at all. So I think I got chapter 6 done now, I'm much more positive on the game as I go on. Once you get fluent with its controls it feels very exciting. I found out you can use the shotgun hookshit in conjunction with slowdown and air control to basically swing yourself around and use every enemy as an anchor to get anywhere you want. On top of all the other movement options you have it makes you feel very powerful, The platforming is still god awful but I notice it comes up less and less in the sections I'm doing now. Hopefully it stays like that. Given how things are going in the wider world I expect this to rank high on my GOTY this year. Only FFVII can stand up to it
