Developed by Deck13, developers of Lords of the Fallen and The Surge.

Not to forget Venetica, which I enjoyed a lot more than these two. For a brief moment I actually, and naively, though this was going to be a sequel to that.

It's also the reason why I didn't immediately dismiss Atlas Fallen, because I'm not entirely convinced of what is shown here.

I've actually grown quite interested in this. It looks like a nice, solid double-A title, a bit like a game they came up with during the 360 era but only now got the time and money to develop it. I might check it out when it comes out if I'm in the mood.

I ordered it. Will have two weeks off towards the end of the month and I get the feeling I'm going to need a distraction big time, so this is a convenient release.

From what I heard people mostly disliked, or rather didn't love, the combat. I've enjoyed some odd combat systems here and there over the years so maybe it won't bother me too much.

I just finished listening to an interview with its creative director. It's in German, so no point in linking it here, but it was super interesting because he was extremely transparent. Some tidbits:

Quote

- there will be some sort of Enhanced Edition, with news about this coming 'soon'. Sounds like an update rather than a DLC, but will likely have a small marketing push as well.

- they didn't want to stagnate by making yet another soulslike. They felt like this slightly bigger thing with a more approachable combat design was a good next step.

- development took roughly four years (keep in mind this includes Covid slowdowns).

- they hired a 'three Cs designer' (camera, character, control) for this game specifically. I never heard that term before but it's the person who makes sure movement is on point. I noted in the game's topic that this felt really good to play and I guess I now know why.

- the game's budget was in the 10-20 million range. Let that sink in for a minute when you remember the average triple-A budgets of today.

- they are fully aware that the intro is pretty bad and recognise that's a problem they haven't quite figured out yet, because some of their games start off like this, and some start off great (Venetica, Surge 1). Will be improved in the enhanced version.

- side note, but speaking of Venetica, that game is apparently still selling well on Steam, which I was super happy to hear. He also mentioned that Atlas is their only game so far that hasn't been profitable (yet?).

- Focus, their publisher, is also committed to Deck13 and only recently appointed a proper CEO so that their creative people can focus more on the actual games. Which is a really good thing to hear in between all the layoff stories.

I'll definitely check out the update when it comes out (hopefully for its first anniversary in August?). Depending on how much has changed I could even see myself going through it again. The game just hit all the right notes for me and was super enjoyable despite some flaws.

There is at least one other who could watch it :)

I hadn't heard of this before, looks epic!

Noticed this pop up as an update yesterday. Didn't know about the new voice cast – seems odd, I don't think there was anything wrong with it in the original.

Will definitely check this out at some point, but I'll wait for a bit as it's stylistically rather close to Flintlock which I just beat.
