Best trailer we'll see all year? A recap of the Famitsu interview from earlier today:

In an interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu (translated by Polygon), Suda51 said Killer is Dead "picks up where Killer 7 and No More Heroes left off" in that it's the first game in the company's assassin series since those two cult hits, but it is not a direct sequel to either game.

Killer is Dead has the same stylised visuals as Killer 7 and No More Heroes and just as much gore, but the graphics have been upgraded for current generation consoles.

Suda51 said: "It's not trying to regress into the past. We're trying to make a game that we'd only be able to make right now, at this point in time. The result is seen in our unique high-contrast shading seen in the graphics, as well as the high-speed wrestling-like action."

Killer is Dead is set in the near future. The wonderfully-named Mondo Zappa is a 35-year-old man with cybernetic enhancements who is sent on a mission to execute assassins. Zappa wields a sword for melee combat and has a gun arm that transforms into drills and other objects. He uses it to absorb the blood of his enemies to charge a powerful sword attack.

Suda51 continued: "It's the story of a man who doesn't show himself much in the public world, but still worms his way into society and mercilessly eliminates the evil dispersed in it. It's a personal story, not one that's conscious of the chaos going on in the real world at the moment, but you might get more than a taste of that in the end anyway."

The game is due to launch in Japan in the summer. It is yet to be announced for the west.

Man that looks good! I've been hoping Grasshopper would do a game with Killer 7's graphical style for ages. I thought Shadows of the Damned would be it but it turned out not to be the case. Will be looking forward to that later in the year.

A brief interview with Suda51 regarding Killer Is Dead - http://www.destructoid.com/talking-killer-is-dead-with-suda51-249818.phtml

A brief synopsis:

The game is called what it is because Suda likes The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths and he just changed The Queen with Killer since he's into that (both Killer7 and No More Heroes games are part of a 'Killer' series to him). It doesn't make sense grammatically but he doesn't give a shit; it sounds good.

Akira Yamaoko (Silent Hill, Shadows of the Damned) is 'chugging away' at the soundtrack.

Killer Is Dead's protagonist shares a name to the protagonist from Flower, Sun and Rain but it's nothing (I heard else where Suda just likes the name Mondo) but they may be sort of distant cousins... yep.

And Timothy Dalton's Bond is a big influence to this Mondo. Suda loves Living Daylights.

That's Killer Is Dead.

I'll probably grab the fan edition since it is just as likely to plummet in price after a month as the limited edition is. I assume the limited edition is just the basic version but is just a statement about how everything is finite and we will all one day die. Obviously. I also enjoy being a pervert so.... Gigolo glasses!

Maybe people are just getting too familiar with their style and it's not working people into a lather as much. If Goichi Suda is the Quentin Tarantino of video games then maybe this is his Death Proof. A bit too self indulgent and not enough honest heart, maybe?

I dunno. I definitely want to play it to see for myself.

They have been firing out a game a year for while now, as well as contributing to smaller titles on the side so maybe it is a case them needing to take stock and focus on something.

It's fine if they want to make these games but they'd probably find more success selling them as budget titles.

I'm still interested, but I can't say I've properly enjoyed a Suda game since NMH, and depending on your viewpoint how often he puts his name to things is either cynical or spreading himself too thin

Have you not played Shadows of the Damned? I thought that was a very enjoyable romp.
