Rockstar Games has broken its vow of silence over Grand Theft Auto V and released two new screenshots via its official website, although as you can see they don't exact reveal anything new or surprising about the game.

The images were stuck at the bottom of a recent Q&A from fans and represent the first time Rockstar has said or released anything about the game since last November.

The following answer was given after a fan named 'Mouthoff' asked, 'Why don’t you give us more news?'

'As we have said before, we have often had long gaps between asset releases on previous games and will continue to do so in the future. We are sorry if you find this frustrating, but please understand, we don’t do this because we ‘don’t care about our fans' 'don’t respect our fans’ 'hate GTA fans etc' – precisely the opposite! We do it because we want to make sure we only release 100% correct information, and because we want to keep plenty back for the actual game release so there are still lots of surprises when you play it,' was the reply.

'The only things we care about are that you enjoy the experience of actually playing the game and that we release accurate information. We just have not been in a position to show more of the game than the trailer and will not be for a while yet. We did, however, manage to sneak a quick screenshot out for you… it’s not much, but we thought it was pretty fun.'

The first screenshot is of a helicopter flying over what is presumably Los Santos. The Q&A then added the second picture of the harbour, saying: 'We will try and get some more screens for you soon and then another trailer when we are ready.'

Although the screenshots in themselves are not significant, the fact that Rockstar claim it will be 'a while yet' before more of the game is show seems to put the kibosh on any lingering hopes it will be released this year.

Unless it's a bluff of course, but we wonder if maybe the game is not being lined up for next generation consoles - rather than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

You can have a gander at those pictures in the link.

Not long now...

It seems Rockstar is finally set to pull back the veil on Grand Theft Auto 5, with a demo ready to be revealed to the outside world.

The developer is showing the game to press today, as confirmed by Game Informer editor-in-chief Andy McNamara, who posted on Twitter moments ago: "In NYC, about to check out December's cover game #GTAV", with an accompanying picture of Rockstar's logo.

So, GTA 5 will adorn the cover of GI's December issue, due out next month, and as Kotaku points out, it often reveals first details on its cover games shortly ahead of the magazine release.

So those of you tired of the slow drip-feed of info we've gotten so far will likely get your fill of new details next month if not sooner.

As reported earlier today, GameStop UK is listing a Grand Theft Auto 5 release date of Friday March 1, 2013. Probably placeholder, but March has been previously rumored.

Apparently, Grand Theft Auto V will be rocking up in spring 2013, according to a supposedly legitimate promotional poster for the game leaked on a Polish website. While Rockstar Games has yet to comment on the leaked poster images, a spring 2013 window seems fairly plausible, what with Game Informer being shown the game recently.

It also looks remarkably legit, with the trademark artwork in the style of GTA IV depicting a thug outside a liquor store, with a baseball bat and a length of chain wrapped around his knuckles.

Can we expect to be playing Grand Theft Auto V in spring 2013 (the poster's bear European PEGI ratings, by the way) then? It certainly seems possible. A pinch of salt is advisable however, until Rockstar confirms something more official. Check out the GTA V poster images below.

It’s all unconfirmed, obviously, but yeah, looks kosher enough.

So, presented in an easy to digest, bullet-pointed list, here’s all the salient info posted online. If you’d rather go unspoiled, then you should probably avoid looking.

You play as Albert DeSilva a half American half Puerto Rican

He is 42 years old and has an ex-wife and two kids

The show Breaking Bad has a little influence on the game, as Albert is drawn to the life of crime from an older age for the money

You also play as Dougie Vejo a younger criminal just coming up in Los Santos

Los Santos is the only large city, smaller towns round out the countrtyside

Grove Street makes a return, however Carl and Sweet are not in the game

Money plays a large part as Albert lost most of his in a ponzi like scheme

Property buying is back

The only customization for characters are clothes/hair/facial hair. no gyms or tattoos

one or more characters from 4 may show up

car customization is back, seems more fitting for Dougie however Albert may be going through a midlife crisis

the triumphant return of Lovefist!!! or as the band is now known as the Jezzies

Songs confirmed so far: My Michelle-Guns and Roses, Magic Power- Triumph, California Dreaming - The beach boys and Beautiful-Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell

New mini games include golf, tennis and surfing

Mission played was called "Alimony" featured the scene from the trailer in which they rob the jewelry store

Robbery returns only for Dougie, dispensaries are a large source of cash income

You can switch between Albert and Dougie by holding down the back button(360)

Game autosaves at that point

Stinger makes a return

Speculated not confirmed Aziz Ansari voices radio DJ for current hip-hop station

September 17.

Grand Theft Auto V is coming this fall, Rockstar announced today.

The fifth installment in the popular open-world action series has been delayed from its initial spring release and will now be out on September 17.

Here's Rockstar:

Dear all

Today, we have an official release date to share with you: Grand Theft Auto V will arrive in stores on September 17, 2013.

We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.

To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be. We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience.

Yours,

The GTA Team

The folks behind Grand Theft Auto V have been slowly sharing details about the highly-anticipated blockbuster for a few months now. In the fall, we found out that there will be multiple protagonists, and that the world is bloody gigantic.
