A Song A Day

Hendo

Well, I think I well and truly killed it with that one.

Aye, even my 10 minute bollocks did better than that.

I dunno what to say about it, maybe some muso like Hendo can go on about how well it's constructed and layered and stuff but to me it's like this doesn't even sound very maritime-y, where are the harpsichords? Rubbish.

Completely missed that, sorry.

When it started off it reminded me of the kind of thing John Barry would write, did a bit of Wikipedia-ing and it's a classical piece, "an excerpt from the Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia from the ballet Spartacus by Aram Khachaturian".

Haven't heard the Skee Lo track in quite a while, always liked that track. If nothing else, refreshing to have the anti-brag hip-hop track.

Inspired by the boating drama thing, I'm bringing the John Barry.

Really enjoyed that, never heard it before.

The woman's voice reminds me of someone, might be Bjork.

Making the connection from Lord of the Rings, I'm going with this by Clint Mansell.

A little obvious of a soundtrack theme to use but it's a great piece.

I would quite like to say something profound about that, and it does work incredibly on Requiem for a Dream, but unfortunately it'll now forever be the Sky Sports News theme tune. A shame because it's oppressive in its proper setting

No real surprise that I like that. :)

I figured it was someone going for that old sound and then I wiki and it was an old sound! The guy did all that on his own as a one-man band, fair play to him.

I think I posted this in the RB3 thread but I'm posting it again because I love it so.

get his best of (The True Story of Abner Jay), it was one of my favourite albums last year. He's one of those people who I'm unsure whether he's genuinely pretty funny or just a bit tapped. Most of his songs are about coke or hating his ex wife, but in a tongue in cheek kind of a way

Sod it, regardless of interest i shall be posting a song each day anyway.

Inspired by the RB3 songpack, here's a masterclass in bass lines.

I always find that song weird how they seemingly planted an entirely different song onto the end of their country/rock track. I'd love to know why, other than a metric fuck-ton of coke.

And yep, that riff is F1.

Was listening to a lot of Depeche Mode last night, many great contenders for the new Rock Band set-up, especially this one.

That's what's so brilliant about it. You have this song that plods along about a dude sat alone thinking about the lies and deception his woman has done and gradually getting angry before mulling it over again. He gets angry again, then calms down. There is a moment of precise though (the bass to the outro) then it fucking kicks off. Maybe he's like fuck it, we can work through this, or maybe he is like, fuck it, I'm gonna kill her and bury her in the yard. It's one of my favourite songs ever. I love it.

great song, it's maybe the most Depeche Mode song ever but that's no bad thing. Kind of bleakly entrancing

I'm sure I've heard the name Sun Kil Moon but don't think I've heard anything of them before, though I recognise the guy's voice.

Bit long but for the most part it seemed to go by pretty quick, not sure the end fits though.

One of my personal favourites from Bob. I actually don't think I have ever met anyone that doesn't like Bob Marley. Bet even devout KKK members like his music too.

Going back into TV land for my next choice.

Very much a case of we have a *insert instrument player * here, lets get them to do a part in our song. It'll be awesome.

it lacks a bit of punch from the tv version, still awesome though. Fitted the show too as it sounds good natured

I didn't like that. I've never seen MASH but I thought I had, I thought it's theme tune was some American rock, but I was probably thinking of The A-Team or something.

I'll go with something more modern since I know balls all about TV.

That was quite cool, I liked the contrast of the plinky-plonky keyboard sound and the rough-as-fuck guitars.

And his singing like he wasn't fussed about being there.

I'd like to recommend the

of the Tom Waits song, much better than the original and also very funny. "We've got to go in with a hydraulic system, and BLAST HIM OUT!"

Also, let's go crazy.

I saw him on Buzzcocks one time, he was brilliant.
