I'm about to buy my copy. Are you?

"Killing in the Name" became the center of a popular protest via social networking site Facebook against what the protesters described as the dominance of corporate manufactured music in the United Kingdom. A group was formed in December 2009 to generate publicity and try to take the track to the coveted Christmas Number One slot in the UK Singles Chart, which has been dominated for several years by winners from the popular TV show The X Factor. As of 13 December, the group membership stands at over 700,000.

God I really hope they manage it. The whole irony of picking that song is epic. If it wins (unlikely IMO), I wonder if Radio 1 will censor it?

I would like to buy it and stop the Cowell machine getting another X Factor related number 1 - but I feel sorry for Geordie Joe who has done nothing wrong and has had to endure the horribleness of X Factor so I think he deserves a number 1. I doubt very much he will get anymore due to his complete blandness and granny appeal.

His song is absolutely dire though. Like, not just even a bit bad. Properly awful. :(

Oh there's a thread on this. I don't like the X-Factor but..

If the idea is to buy it because you don't like X-Factor then it's a pretty pointless one.

  • If you don't like X-Factor, don't acknowledge it.
  • People that will buy the XF single do so because they like it. Not because they are made to.
  • You're promoting X-Factor.
  • You're buying a single because you're been told to do so.
  • Nobody looks at the singles chart as a mark of quility anymore.
  • The XF single will be released on CD too so thats that.

I think the main point is.... Its pretty funny if Rage Against the Machine keep The x factor single from being Christmas Number 1. I know no one cares about the singles charts, that's not a recent thing, the charts have never been representative of quality, but of popularity, that is as true now as it was in the 1940's, but Christmas Number one is something of a British institution. The X Factor single is a dead cert still, once the CD single comes out it'll eclipse RATM's sales and they will still get the top slot. But, at the same time, it is significantly raising the profile of one of the most important bands in the world, and thats not a bad thing IMO.

That, and its a bit of fun.

Due to software restraints, I can only give you +1 rep for that, but if I could I'd give you about 54 more.
