spatular
only the organisers know at the moment, they'll be announced just as the playing week starts i recon. they did announce a theme for each week though: Raizing Week Last Year's Straggler Week Psikyo Week Hidden Gem Week DRAGON Week the only one i'd take a guess at is raizing week, which i recon will either be battle bakraid or battle garegga, as armed police batrider was already played in a previous year. spatular
cave are sort of letting people vote on which of their games they should try and get released on XBLA!!!111 exciting stuff, i voted for Muchi Muchi Pork. http://www.gamerbytes.com/xbla/ also there was a festeval/show thing they have quite regularly where they showed the 360 ports of mushihimesama futari 1.5 and espgaluda 2. futari is now up for preorder at play-asia: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-br-49-en-70-3cq6.html all info from the shmups forum
Hendo
I always try to listen to podcasts while playing something that doesn't involve any reading or great deal of thought, so I can concentrate more on what's being said, so my Idle Thumbs marathon has been soundtracking my dips back into some XBLA shooters. I've gone back to R-Type Dimensions and I'd forgotten how hard those games are. I don't think I've ever spent much time with the second one. There's some good ideas in there, considering how old they are, hopefully Gradius will get an XBLA makeover soon. Also, I realised how much I'd overlooked Galaga Legions and I think most people are the same as me as that's the one game from last year's Summer of Arcade that no-one can ever remember - "ok so there was Braid, Bionic Commando, Geometry Wars 2, Castle Crashers.......hmmm, something else....". I'm really enjoying it and I think I'd barely played it at the time. Still don't fully understand how you're meant to tell from the lines that appear first, where the enemy ships will appear. Any tips? Also, anyone up for some co-op on R-Type?
spatular
oddly i've just been doing the same thing , listening to thoes idle thumbs podcasts while playing trials! gradius v on xbla would be all kinds of awesome on galaga legions - Still don't fully understand how you're meant to tell from the lines that appear first, where the enemy ships will appear. Any tips? i haven't played this for ages but think the lines come up are the path the baddies will take and they come in the same order as the lines too, but often there's so many lines at the same time it's a pretty useless indication and you need to remember what's going to happen. the game is all about the option placement, get it right and it makes things a lot easier, think there was some runs through on youtube that might help. hammered this when it came out, brilliant game but i've not been back to it much. i'm in a non-shooter-playing mood at the moment, tried one the other night and wasn't feeling the fun at all, hope it passes before the tournament, either way it will pass. spatular
been playing varth quite a bit today, it's by capcom, thought i should point out that on one of the levels if you shoot the right place, ryu comes out of the floor doing a dragon punch and you can collect him for points and stuff, which is pretty cool
spatular
cave are sort of letting people vote on which of their games they should try and get released on XBLA!!!111 exciting stuff, i voted for Muchi Muchi Pork. http://www.gamerbytes.com/xbla/ the results from this are out now, pretty amazing that they even posted it in english, and then hinted they might try and get futari made region free : "Thank you all for your mail. Here are the results of our Xbox Live Arcade survey. 1. Guwange 2. Esprade 3. Dodonpachi 4. Progear 5. Pink Sweets 6. Mushihime-sama 7. Dangun Feveron 8. Muchi Muchi Pork 9. Espgaluda 10. Ibara We have received many requests from our overseas users for region-free versions of our games. "Death Smiles" was released only for Asia, but the region for "Mushi-hime sama Futari" has not been decided yet. I believe it will be decided around the time of Tokyo Game Show 2009. We are very happy to have received so many e-mails from overseas. DANGERMAN
Just oredered Illvelo, which is a Wii shooter by Milestone who made the very good Radirgy and the pretty good Karous. It's kind of like those, with their chunky cel shading, but crossed with Warioware in that it's really short levels where you have to kill everything really quickly. Going to go back to Radirgy soon too, really enjoyed that when it came out
spatular
good shmupping Ben. there's a new shooter out on DSi ware today from arika, 500 nintendo points, apparently you can only get it if you have a japanese DSi though. if it comes out over here i might have to get a DSi. spatular
awesome news, mushihimesama futari 1.5 is apparently going to be region free, this is a first for japanese exclusive games i believe? it's a great game and i recommend everyone should buy it (if you like 2d shooters) but it's going to be a hard sell as its expensive and not quite as noob friendly as deathsmiles, although original mode is reasonably easy and i think they are adding a new easier mode too, just don't watch any videos of ultra mode as they even put me off, the arcade version displays a warning screen when you select it, that's how hard it is. http://kotaku.com/5368190/bullet-hell-shooter-creators-cave-going-region+free-for-next-xbox-360-game
