    Resident Evil 2

Me and a mate started this the other night and at the minute I am impressed but not really satisfied. It is obviously very high quality and production valued out the ass but it’s just a bit lacking in bite. That’s not a pun, I don’t do puns. I played for just over 2 hours and only got hit once. I’m playing on standard, and no doubt it will get tougher. But the sense of dread, which it does extremely well, is completely undermined by the lack of threat. I haven’t reached Mr X yet and I’ve only seen 1 licker. But so far I only got hit once and have shot about 5 or 6 zombies, 2 of which was just in the leg so I could get by. I was concerned about ammo but then I got 70 handgun bullets and over a dozen shotgun shells. I’m only scared by the thought of what might be there but when something is actually there I’m too slippery and well stocked to actually be worried. It feels good, though. Movement physics are weighted very well, sound FX and sound design are super high standard, puzzle solving is ridiculous. But then that’s just this series and is fun sitting there laughing at it with a friend. Each individual thing on it’s own feels good and is satisfying but as a whole it just feels like the bark is worse than the bite. No that’s not a repeated joke, I don’t repeat jokes.
  2. I think I’m about 60 hours into this game now and have still only done 2 missions in chapter 3. I love this game. Like I love this game. Like I love this like it might be one of my favourite games of all time kind of love this game. It’s. Just. Awesome. I still can’t get over the vistas and the music even when travelling over the same fields again and again. I’ve come around big time on the hunting and have almost kitted out my camp. I need Mouse antlers, one more Ox hide, 2 Cougar hides, and something else. Then I got to start hunting again to get all the outfits in the game. Most of which are terrible and I don’t understand why they all do the same stuff but I need them anyway. There is a particular waist coat that looks great and I need it. I also, finally, learnt how to catch legendary fish. This is the thing I love most about the game is the player discovery. It’s sort of similar to Breath of the Wild where working out how to do things is still the reward. However in BotW the things you do have more direct applications on how you can interact with the game world and Red Dead is still more that traditional loot getting check list orientated progress. But it’s still great because it’s hard to work out and you have to discover how to do it. You can’t catch fish with regular bait. But the game only hints at that and doesn’t tell you where to get it. The map for legendary fish is nonsense and you have to look at it 3 or 4 times and cross reference it with your real map to work out the locations. Then you got to work out which of the special baits work best. Etc. And it’s kind of like that for everything. Hunting, treasure maps, finding ingredients. The only place this falls falls down is the collectibles aspect of the world. That isn’t so much player discovery as it is player luck. There are 30 dinosaur bones to find in the world. So far I have found 3. And one of them was in the middle of a field I crisscrossed a lot and just happen to find it. The Dreamcatcher trees are a really a cool idea except there is only 20 specific trees in a WORLD OF FUCKING TREES. Even though it is really, really fun finding cigarette cards I did find a way you can get around that and that is too simply buy infinite packs of premium cigarettes from a shop. They’re like 3 bucks a pop and I have 1200 bucks so if I ever run out of places to look I think I can solve that one. But I still love this game to death and back. I think it is fantastic both in the scripted and the open world. I love the story and characters and get sucked in as soon as anybody starts talking. But I can also leave that behind and really get in to the game parts of puzzling out mountains and locations trying to figure out these treasure maps. And then for the most part the game just blends it together when I’m wandering through foggy woods, gun in hand, horse trotting by my side, and we’re both very quiet listening for wolf howls and following bear tracks. Not only does the game land me in a sense of space unlike any game I can really remember. But it’s also landing me in a type of era I’ve never thought or cared about but now am super into. I liked Red Dead 1 ok, but it never really clicked for me. I think because John Marshmellow is a fucking joke and an idiot and I love this game points that out all the time. But something about this game is just firing for me on all cylinders all the time. From the quiet to the insane this game just has it all.

    Crackdown 3

I finished this earlier in the week and actually really liked it. It’s bland and stupid and easy and brain dead and that suits me kind of perfect. I know it’s had a bit of a tough time out there, and what you’re hearing is true, but for me this just kind of worked. I haven’t played such a simple game like this in such a long time I actually found it really refreshing. I certainly had my fill by the end but for the majority of the near 20 hours I played I had a great time. My big complaints are the driving is terrible, the central section is horribly designed and just a confusing mess, and they don’t have a ‘ping’ for orb locations. There is an associated sound when you’re near but it gets easily drowned out, you have to be very close and it’s this that stops it being a podcast game. But, big blowy up-y, smashy, smashy v good fun.

I was watching a Lets Play of this but I think I need to stop and play it for myself because it looks fantastic. Dark Souls Lite is about where I’m at right now, I think.

    TV Shows

Oh, this is pretty fun. Someone took the 90’s Spider-Man cartoon intro and did it live action using scenes from all the movies. Some parts are kind of accurate as well? At the very least they did a good job matching the sound FX with the action
  6. This. Is. Amazing. Lol
  7. Inspired by the Super Sons series and wanting to ramp up to Final Crisis I bought this I love Grant Morrison’s interpretation of Batman and the little character details he folds in so easily between their already established traits. Andy Kubert’s art is so good as well. That last panel is the only drop of sadness in the whole scene but it still hits because of the eyes. I already have some some of these issues from later in Morrison’s run but they were also the first Batman comics I read since I was a kid. Now after all this time coming full circle I get this stuff a lot more and it’s more potent now I have my own history with the character instead of jumping straight in.
  8. 2 out of 5. And a JRPG main character. I’m going to give myself 2.5/5 Fuck Bomberman

    Final Fantasy XV

Oh, funny how the one you like the most is the ‘best one’. Where is your objectivity? My list is a cold hard list of fact. These are the best FF games. You don’t have to like it, but you do have to admit it

    Dragon Quest XI

I feel like it’s strongest selling point is that it’s breezy. Sit down, chill out, hit the buttons, read the text, get tired, turn it off. Rinse and repeat.
  17. HAVE I TOLD YOU ABOUT DANMAKU UNLIMITED 3
  18. Imagine how much better it would be if you had a real pro controller instead of a fake one
  19. I don’t like the Joy Cons for anything. Also weird how the last two big Switch releases came with their own controller. Telling?
  20. Yeah pro controller is essential.

    Dead Cells

It’s one of my go toos. That or the Duplex bow.

    Dead Cells

And this is what I was saying earlier about the downside to the game. Leaving out the people that are god like at this game, the only real winning build is freeze and turrets and also those bows that act like shotguns. They’re amazing. But anything else and it makes a hard game an exceptionally hard game. You can always ‘git gud’, I guess, but I think it’s kind of an under pinning problem with the game when it has so many weapons and 97% of them you would never use if you didn’t have to
  24. I’m sitting next to a night time campfire drinking booze and cleaning my guns while Javier strums some cool music on he’s guitar. Then I’m gonna eat these fucking wolves that keep trying to eat me and going to bed. This is game is so much fun
  25. I know I’m still really early but this could be one of my top 10 of the generation. This game is incredible.
