Arcade machine porn

Was in good ol' Skeggy over the weekend and we found a bit of a gem tucked away in the back of one of the arcades down there: A full 4 player sit-down Simpsons Arcade machine!

Not seen one of these beauties in years. It was in pretty bad shape with a lot of the control panel rubbed off from years of supporting wrists and the monitor didn't display the whole game with most of the top portion totally gone. Despite the obvious lack of TLC the machine had been shown over the years, we stuffed a load of credits into it (20p per play) and proceeded to have a brilliant time. I felt a pang of sadness knowing that might be one of the last times four people sit down to play that machine before being scrapped :(

Here's some pictures of the old girl...

That area of the coast has loads of stuff like that. A few years ago I went to Ingoldmells and Mablethorpe and they had tones of old arcade machines. Sadly they had done away with all the pinball stuff. I was looking forward to some real life pinball but it looks all but dead in the UK. I've not seen a table in years. I blame the fruit machines.

those shots look instagram'd to me

one of my favourite gaming memories is from being a kid and playing through the turtles arcade machine 4 player. There was 3 of us that knew each other, then some random kid we coaxed in to joining us. Everytime we saw each other around the holiday camp after that we were all like B)

We used to go on day trips with the rugby club. There was this pub called "The Moon" that had an Avery, a pinball machine from about 1500AD and 2 arcade games. One was SFII and the other was Turtles Coin-op. Because of the amount of kids there you always had someone to play with. It was amazing. I think that pub was in Bridlington although I'm not certain. It could have been in Blackpool. We went on so many day trips back then.

I was playing a Simpsons arcade machine in Felixstowe a lil while back but of course after so much wear over the years, the buttons were fucked.

I do kinda miss the arcade days, when i was younger, always ended up on the Street Fighter & Time Crisis machines

Instagram? Pah. All taken with my Nikon D3000 and a 35mm lens at f1.8, plus a bit of post in Lightroom to capture the retro-ness of the cabinet.

Was itching to find a Mortal Kombat cabinet, a personal favourite from my youth, so I could take some more shots but couldn't find any other old cabinets at all :(

then I apologise and ask you to join my crusade brother

I've always wanted an arcade cab for my home. Either something stupid and elaborate like Samba de Amigo or simple that you could get really good at like Metal Slug or KOF. The sad truth is the realities of having room for it put a stop to it. Stupid adulthood

I grew up about 10 miles or so from Hunstanton, and as a kid the arcades there were amazing.

They had some great oldies there like Track and Field, Pole Position, and the Star Wars game, as well as classics like Street Fighter 2, Final Fight, Sega Rally etc, and big flashy cabinets like a G-LOC: Air Battle R-360, 8 player Daytona, etc.

It was really sad going back a few years ago and it was all fruit machines.

When I was a kid, I use to play Laser Quest down Portsmouth and they had the 6 player X-Men arcade. Loved that. Also spent all my Deutschmarks on a coin up on the ferry home after a school trip. Some beat em like Streets but involved saving animals.

There was no arcades where I grew up so I totally missed the arcade scene, but Morecambe still has a few places with some machines. I'm sure I saw one of those Namco developed Mario Kart machines where I bought some chips the last time I was there but I didn't go in it, though.

I bet it would of been awesome 15 years ago for games.

It's quite funny the idea of going into an arcade, seeing the fruit machines and nostalgically going 'when I was young this was all video games.'

Yeah, Morecombe towards the West End had some super old arcade machines. It's a while back now, around 2007, but they had original Space Invader and Pacman cabs in there towards a pub called The Battery. There was another few going up the past the jetty and clock, I think the names of these two amusements were 'Oasis' and 'Pleasureland'. Sadly they'd started to just fill up with fruit machines but they still had some cabs in them. There were amusements all along the front of Frontierland but that's all gone now. There used to be an old arcade next to what used to be Tussauds (later a laser quest place) that had the aforementioned Simpsons cab stand up model. It also had a kick arse jetski game that on the way back to the hotel on a night we'd all have a go on. I think the jetski game was the most recent cab in there, they had all sorts of old stuff ranging right up until the collapse of the arcade cab industry.

Thinking about it makes me feel quite sad actually. I just checked on Google Earth, these pictures were from 2009 so they are way out of date.

Space Invader place. Now an antiques dealership. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=morecambe&hl=en&ll=54.066566,-2.880446&spn=0.004376,0.013089&safe=off&hnear=Morecambe,+Lancashire,+United+Kingdom&t=m&z=17&layer=c&cbll=54.066485,-2.88056&panoid=eg_gE-E7kQLwoURIG2au0g&cbp=12,155.72,,0,-4.24

Oasis still stands. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=morecambe&hl=en&ll=54.072882,-2.867233&spn=0.001102,0.003272&safe=off&hnear=Morecambe,+Lancashire,+United+Kingdom&t=m&z=19&layer=c&cbll=54.072928,-2.867065&panoid=ee5zVQTlcZde6b56DVv6Ww&cbp=12,108.01,,0,-2.58

Pleasureland still stands. It's probably silled with more fruit machines than it was last time I went. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=morecambe&hl=en&ll=54.07251,-2.871529&spn=0.001102,0.003272&safe=off&hnear=Morecambe,+Lancashire,+United+Kingdom&t=m&z=19&layer=c&cbll=54.07251,-2.871529&panoid=C77LOPn6S6uke3IqNpbGNA&cbp=12,180.06,,0,0.61

Place next to Tussauds. It is barren. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=morecambe&hl=en&ll=54.067989,-2.878193&spn=0.004376,0.013089&safe=off&hnear=Morecambe,+Lancashire,+United+Kingdom&t=m&z=17&layer=c&cbll=54.068064,-2.878094&panoid=9bWU8Z5HS5oMrc1ot4eSaw&cbp=12,126.02,,0,-2.58

It was Pleasureland where I saw the Mario Kart thing. It is mostly fruit machines but some games are still there. I just looked from the outside of Oasis but it seemed similar in there was also loads of fruit machines but there could be something more.

I may have wander there this weekend or something and check them out properly if I have any spare coins.

Centre Parcs - Elveden Forest used to have one of these and we went there a few times as kids. My little brother and I spent hours and hours on this!!!

I'd LOVE to have a go on one again. Ah, the memories :)
