Burnout Crash

Burnout Crash will be an action game that offers points for creating traffic pileups, according to US age-rater ESRB.

In a departure from series norms, Crash's "cartoony vehicles" are controlled "from a top-down perspective".

"Each level is accompanied by crashing sounds, small explosions, and vocal encouragement like "cool" and "maximum carnage", just like on Fox News.

In more whimsical levels, "oversized airplanes, tornadoes, lobster monsters, and UFOs slide across the screen, destroying any vehicles in their path".

This isn't the first we've heard of Burnout Crash - the Australian Classification Board outed the game last month. EA has yet to formally announce the project.

Not sure how I feel about this. I love top-down racers but not sure I want it in a Burnout game.

wtf is this? Sounds like an xbla game rather than a full burnout.

EA confirms Burnout Crash! is downloadable game

http://www.metro.co.uk/tech/games/868723-ea-confirms-burnout-crash-is-downloadable-game

The game's existence was leaked in some detail earlier in the year, when the American age ratings board put up a listing and description for it on their website. It always sounded like it was some sort of downloadable spin-off though, not a full sequel, and that's exactly what it's turned out to be.

The game is being developed by series creators Criterion Games, but instead of the usual tarmac level action the game uses a top down viewpoint reminiscent of retro classics such as Super Sprint and Micro Machines.

The game isn't a straight racer though, but rather an expansion of Crash mode, one of the most popular extra modes from the earlier Burnout games - but which was strangely absent from the more recent Burnout Paradise.

Criterion describes the game as being inspired by 'pinball, retro music and game shows'. So, instead of being number one in a race you have to be the best at causing a massive pile up. Starting off at a crossroads you have to cause as much collateral damage as possible by pilling your car into traffic and hopefully through the odd petrol station and tanker.

If that all sounds a bit too simplistic it is at least in keeping with the original mode and Criterion are promising three different play modes and 18 maps.

Like all of EA's recent driving games Autolog will also be used, so you can keep abreast of and try to beat your friend's high scores. The new Autolog Challenges will also allow you to create your own dares for friends and set off a turn-based head-to-head challenge between them.

Burnout Crash! is compatible with Kinect and will be out on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network this autumn.
