retroed
Blizzard have issued Starlite: Starcraft DS, the DS homebrew game, with a Cease and Desist. Could they be bringing something similar to DS? Hmm...
retroed
This project has begun as a way to learn how to program on the Nintendo DS. After seeing how the DS was used vertically as a book by some famous games, I thought it would be really cool to have some old gamebooks converted on this system. For those who didn't know about Gamebooks, they were novels which had a nice success during the 80's, and which were allowing the readers to choose their own path by jumping from one numbered section to another, in a fun and interactive way. They were introducing the concepts of inventory, enemies fights, random dice results, and other nice ideas which were the precursors of what we find today in role playing video games. http://www.projectaon.org/staff/frederic/index.php
Jimboxy
thats an awesome idea, are they actually using existing stories or making up new ones?

Pikman
OK, so a friend and I are both looking to get hold of one of these. What is the best one to get? I was going to suggest the R4 DS but a quick look Dealextreme and I've seen tons of others!?!
Jimboxy
the r4ds is as easy to find as rocking horse shit... I ordered a MS real from consoleup.com, they have various bundles on there with micro sd cards, rumble packs etc. Think it was £35 with 1gb Micro DS and the DS rumble unit. Looks exactly the same as the R4 although i haven't installed the firmware in it yet, but i assume it works in the same way.
retroed
The DSTT is a cheap alternative. Build quality and interface isn't quite as good, but it works, and it takes the SDHC cards so you aren't limited to 2GB or memory. They're around £12 delivered at dealextreme, plus your microSD of choice.
Pikman
I'm confused. I need like a little helper fairy to sit on my shoulder and advice me 24/7. I guess its depends if 2Gb is sufficent, basically.
Jimboxy
well if you want something that is the same as the r4 just rebranded, then go for the m3 real. It is essentially the same thing. I'm going to have a better look at it tonight so i'll post some feed back about it.
Pikman
Nice one, cheers. We are both just after the most comprehensive one basically
retroed
Seriously, I'd go for the DSTT. They will play anything you throw at it, auto DLDI patching for homebrew etc, and there is a custom firmware available now that makes the menu screen and layout just like the R4, i.e. nice and simple. And of course, it has the added bonus over the R4 of being able to take the SDHC cards. Check out the review here for the general idea, although some parts of it are out of date. They are currently waiting on stock at DealExtreme, but you can't go wrong at the price. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10289 You could always go for one of these for your slot 2 device, too. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2967 Under £25 delivered for those two, a pretty good combination I'd say. + 2GB SanDisk microSD at £6.99 at Play.com or 4GB at £12.99. retroed
Portal / Still Alive DS! A homebrew programmer has cooked up a version of Portal for the Nintendo DS, titled "StillAliveDS." Naturally, this game plus an editor to create your own levels is free and available for download. You move about the map, aiming a portal gun with your stylus to finish the level and grab pieces of cake along the way (naturally.) http://kotaku.com/5012099/portal-for-ds-ha...ake--eat-it-too (download link included)
