  1. I think this is a game that maybe a bunch of people have picked up at some point during a Steam sale, maybe. It has even been reduced really low on Wii U so I assume someone may have this game as well. I just want to say if you haven't played it yet but have it then get it played. It's a a cool game. What I've noticed is it promotes itself as a game with no real tutorial and you have to just figure it out. That sounds all well and good but therer are a few to many games out there that claim to do that but are just obtuse and a pain in the arse; Toki Tori 2 isn't that. Maybe it has too much of a simple opening, but it's only after playing it a bit and getting to appreciate the level of complexity do I realise why they started this game slowly. What is awesome about it is that the game is based around interacting with wildlife, and when you start off you don't know the amount of interaction you actually have until you've gone through a load of the game, and then you're like 'oh shit, those butterflies were at the start and I could have got them to do such and such'. I guess it's almost like playing a Metroidvania but having all the power-ups from the start, except you don't know what they do unless you play more, which is super cool. It has the most natural progression without you having to unlock anything. I know it's far from the most exciting game in the world but it is such a perfect Sunday afternoon hang out game. You just potter about and solve some surprisingly satisfying puzzles. I think it's worth a punt, but I don't know for certain if anyone herer would like it. But I'm giving it a hearty thumb up, anyway.
  2. Scram Kitty is a pretty weird game. It's a sort of top down shooter and platformer, but the platforming is still side on because you can only move while attached to like a rail wall thing... and you can only shoot in front of you. It sounds like everything in it is just going to hamper you but there is some satisfaction in unlearning what we usually know about these kinds of games and getting good at Scram Kitty. What your goal is for each level is you have to collect four cats in each level: one you get when you reach the goal, another you get for collecting 100 coins in the level, one appears after killing a tough enemy and the final, and most problematic one, is a cat that moves around the level when you first touch it and acts as a checkpoint race which you have a very limited time to get between checkpoints. I have around 30 cats right now and the more you have the more levels you have access to. From what I can tell you just need 70 to get to the final level, but it seems like there may be over 100 to collect. It's certainly got that 3D Mario game structure in terms of progression. The levels are good, in fact they get super tough, especially where I am now and it's all about using the geometry of the levels to kill bad guys, since you can only shoot forwards getting into position is key. In fact the way some enemies move is really erratic and does get frustrating as it often seems you can't avoid them or shoot them. I'd say that's the worst part of it. So it's an interesting game... not sure I'd call it a great one, or even recommend it, but it's certainly something. It's not boring, that's for sure.

    Pure Pool

Whats to say? It's pool. I have this on PS4, it costs about £5.50 with a PS+ discount and its pretty kewl. You can play local or online and theres a career mode with unlockables and levelling up as you go along. It's very pretty too.
  4. I've gone through the game at the leisurely 50cc pace and I suppose we better get some impressions down. I kinow it's lazy to say but I'm going to: this is a Mario Kart game, but it's a good one... well, they're always good so I'll go so far as to say Mario Kart 8 is a great Mario Kart game. I could see it being my favourite (I have yet to play Super and 7). I think it's because of the courses since they're the most imaginative ones I've seen and a lot of them have some surprising shortcuts and split off in ways. I think the good track design is down to the new anti-grav karts. When I first saw it I thought it looked cool but I didn't think it would change the dynamics of the tracks very much. I thought it would just make you go upside down sometimes, but that's not really the case. The tracks sometimes have optional, subtle little sections that require it and those little things open up how you use the track for certain situations. I just think it makes you think about how to deal with the tracks more than you might realise. It's cool. I dunno how I feel about the kart customisation stuff, really. It makes it so it almost doesn't matter who you pick, which is good in a way. It means you can just pick a character you like and tailor a kart more around your style, instead of using a character you don't really care about but they suit your driving style. But we know the score really. we've seen it looks really nice, I can vouch for the new tracks and say they're pretty awesome... and while the game does look nice I played the N64 track and just couldn't get over how good the music is on that track. It's glorious (remember this from the Direct they did?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RslKeW5SHcw But anyway. I need to try the online a bit more... I'm getting my arse handed to me quite a bit.
  5. With great surprise, we have threads for the other Mario & Luigi games but not the first. I think I got most of the way through on the GBA but I think I came stuck due to not possibly not being powerful enough. It's on the WiiU Virtual Console now (3DS too?) and I put a load of money on my account and picked it up. I wondered whether I got some of the mechanics messed up with the second game but I've not long got the hammers so I think I can remember it well. Unless the two games were pretty much identical, mechanics-wise. I'm not finding it as funny as I remember it being, but maybe that was the second game. As far as the WiiU version goes, it's worth noting that it starts up with the "Gameboy Player" logo so maybe that has something to do with how they emulated it? Also if you click in the right stick, you can smooth the scrolling and slightly smoothen up the graphics which I've stuck with.
  6. I gots to tell you, I really don't like this game. It's really humourless and annoying. The controls are all nice and I've had no issues with the platforming but the script is boring and flat. I just want to smack his stupid face.

    Child Of Light

I think that's all the tags for this, basically it's out on just about everything. Child of Light is actually a surprisingly complex rpg, even if it is a bit on the easy side. During combat you and your enemies share a movement meter. Once you get towards the end of the meter you can cue up an action, that action takes a bit of time to activate. If you manage to land a hit on an enemy whilst they're activating their move you'll interrupt them, sending them back down the meter. You also have a firefly who can slow down enemies as they charge, heal you a bit, and pick up items. If you have multiple characters you can switch out characters, this doesn't spend your turn so you can still perform an action with your new character Out of battle the game starts off like a simple platformer, but then you learn to fly. There's still the odd puzzle element to the map, items to find, even alternate characters it's apparently possible to miss (Brad missed one on Giant Bomb). There's gem stones you can equip to add perks, things like fire damage or resistances. It sort of feels superfluous with how easy the game can be but it's nice that it's there. It looks amazing obviously, and the soundtrack is great, made by someone respected but I'd never heard of her anyway, I'm really enjoying it, it's not the greatest rpg ever, it's just missing something, but it's pretty good so far
  8. Ive played this a couple of times now, both times with mates and both times we've all laughed our asses off. I'm not going to go on about each event and what you do because there are loads of them and it would be a post worthy of Sly and similar to my cock - incredibly lengthy. But it is really good! You need to have the wii plus motion controller and to a lesser extent the nunchuck at hand, it tells you which one you'll be using before the event. Particualr events we enjoyed are the bob sled, speed skating (got a serious competition going on with that one), snow boarding trick event and that skiing one where you have all those little hills and then do some jumps in the middle. The figure skating was pretty clever but a little unresponsive, also you can do pairs figure skating which involves two people, one wiimote and an oxygen machine so you can regain your composure if you are watching two other people make utter cunts out of themselves. It's a shame we aren't a very competitive site as the world records in each event would make for good times. If you see this on the cheap now the event themselves are over (not belittling the paralympics - i mean not that some of them arent little, they are... but in a good way. Not that i'm saying it's good to be disabled or anything. Fucking hell.) pick it up. It's fun.
  9. I just wrote a massive post about this that would have got me lost of pluses and a pulitzer prize but I lost it all because my laptop is an utter fuck. Anyways, this should be called Donkey Kong Country Again But Looks Lovely because it really does. I don't have your fancy schamncy Xbones and PS4's but for cartoony graphics these are awesome, DK's fur in the opening cut scene looks amazballs. I still have Donkey Kong Country Returns pretty fresh in my mind so this feels like more of the same just with some bells and wistles. I played DKCR on the 3DS so I'm enjoying having this on the big screen. More of the same means the same controls which still have the same problems. You can whiz about like a trooper, doing you platforming as demanded but there is still that horrible delay between pressing the jump button and actually jumping that I could never get on with. He does the same when he rolls too, you hit the L or R buttons and there's a couple of frames of animation that leave you vunerable before he launches his attack. Ive played up to halfway through the second area. The first area is the normal introduction, all jungle with a few underwater bits. The underwater conrols are nice by the way, you have a thrusting manouver that propels you through the water with speed, you can also use it to launch out of the water when near the surface. Worthy of note is how the music changes in to a nice chill out version of the current score, DKC has laways gotten water music right. The second area is WIndmill Plains, I kinda wish this would have been first, its different enough to convert anybody who thinks they might have just picked up the previous version again. The music has been good too aand it has an autumnal setting that feels nice and fresh. The main differnce this time round is the introduction of Dixie and Cranky inside the barrels as well as just Diddy. Diddy still has his jet pack to boost your jump, Dixie gives you extended height on your jump similar to Yoshi with that dip and extra effort at the end and Cranky has a pogo stick jump a la Duck Tales (awoo-oo) that you can perform indefinitely if you so choose. It lets you jump on spikes and other surfaces that would otherwise kill you. There are only 6 worlds this time around but the individual levels are longer. The first boss fight was a bit drawn out, that cunt took some hitting and I fucking howled when i died after hitting him about six times but falling prey to the poopy jump delay. Its good so far, i guess that's all you really need to know. Haven't.encountered any ice yet.

    Earthbound

It's an unusual day in Eagleland. A meteor has landed in the hillside just above your house in the outskirts of Onett and that's enough to make a classic RPG out of. It literally starts just like that and you and your dog go and explore. It's a very atmospheric start, the music is quite cool and the characters you meet say odd things to you and its night time so it's dark. You fight random wild animals that attack you, combat is turn based. As you level up you start to get PSI powers, the first one I got was a healing spell that can be used both inside and outside of battle. Ive since got a hypnosis spell and a half powerful offensive multi enemy hitter. At the beginning of the game it asks you what is your favorite food and what is your favorite thing. I put food as pizza and my favorite thing as boobs. This offensive PSI spell that I learnt is called PSI Boobs on the select screen, that made me chuckle. Ive only progressed so far as to actually visit the town of Onett which opens up to you the next day. Onett has shops and hotels and hospitals, all of which can be utilised. Fighting enemies puts money in your bank account which can be withdrawn from ATM's located inside drug stores. Drug stores also sell weapons and clothing (which is your armour). Saving the game is accessed via telephone calls to your dad (!). He also tells you how much money you have overall and how many exp points you need untill your next level up. You can only hold so many items so again via the phone system you can call your sister who works for an express delivery firm, she send a guy to you whom can take excess stock items for you and deliver them back when needed. You can call your mum too but that seems pointless, although going back and visiting her in your house gets your Hit points and PSI points restored. I hand to spend a little time grinding so as to comfortably beat a guy who was running a gang from the local arcade. This pleased the mayor who gave me a key for a shack not too far away. Unlocking this shack took me to a new area and another boss who, despite my new found strength from leveling up, beat me comfortably. I started playing this around half midnight and now it was 3am and I was getting sleepy,so that was enough. Guess its a little more grinding before I tackle him again, I really enjoyed what I have played so far. Some of the dialogue between you and the townsfolk is pretty funny and the music has been pretty good as well, that always helps. And I do get the impression that this is a game that everyone should give a go, it's from a classic RPG era after all and it does feel a bit spesh. I have no idea what direction this game is heading in but I'm kinda excited about the prospect of finding out. In fact I'm going to play some more right now.

    NES Remix

So this is good fun. You have 6 NES classic games unlocked from the start -Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jnr, Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros, Excitebike and Balloon Fight. Each game is made up of a series of challenges. You have three lives in which to accomplish your task, Its pretty simple to begin with but you are at the behest of 1980's controls which will fuck you up somewhere along the line. Like Donkey Kong will start you out just jumping a certain amount of barrells and ends up getting you to do a couple of quick challenges before tackling a whole level. Each time you complete a challenge you get given points which fills up a bar at the bottom that when filled unlocks a stamp for Miiverse posting. Each challenge can earn you three starts depending on how quickly you completed it. Earning stars unlocks level in the 'remix' game which accompanies the original 6 NES games. The remix challenges are things like racing through a level of Super Mario Bros in silhouette mode (so its tough to see enemies) or playing Donkey Kong Jnr with a periodically disappearing background. These levels have been the most fun so far. At 100 stars I unlocked the original Zelda, there space for another game in the selection bar and the remix levels are under the banner of 'Remix I' so i'm guessing there will be a 'Remix 2' series. £7.99 feels a little steep for whats basically WarioWare with NES games, there is a lot to do but a fiver would have been a fairer asking price imo. Exitebike and the original Mario Bros are terrible games as well, I cant understand what made Nintendo pick them to star here. The jumping in Mario Bros is fucking awful. Ive managed to get all the stars in Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jnr so far but Mario and Excitebike are pretty tough. Actually, some of the Super Mario Bros challenges are pretty hard, can see me have a tough time with some of the latter stages.
  12. I've done the first two worlds so far and it's pretty good, unsurprisingly. The things that happen seem to mostly be about nostalgia, or at least the bits that have stuck out. You have a SMB3 style map with little huts where you get stuff and there was a level where you make your way over a bunch of moving tanks. But there was a level that used shadows to some cool effect and I hope its expanded on. But listing the stuff doesn't do it justice. Everything just feels really tight and polished, more so than the older 3D games. I feel like I can maneuver Mario around really confidently. Like sprinting around narrow paths is doable and you're not having to do a balancing act all the time which 3D platformers have taught us to expect. It really does bring the best of either the constant sprinting and careful jumping of the 2D titles and exploring with the weird mechanics of the 3D games (like having to get places with a certain power-up). So surprise, surprise. It's brill.
  13. No impressions of this? I thought some people had it. If you don't, well you should. This game is pretty damn amazing. I think if you played Origins you'll know what to expect when it comes to the normal platforming levels. You sprint, jump, punch and bounce your way through a bunch of levels that make some pretty creative use of Rayman and the gang's skills. Of course, it looks amazing, again, with those lush hand-drawn graphics and it has some of those funky ditties again. But there is new stuff. You have music levels which are awesome. It's a shame there are only one per world as I'd play the heck out of a game that was just all these; they're just so much fun. I guess they're not unlike the levels in Origins where you chase the sprinting treasure chest but seeing the levels and the enemy placements sync up with the music as you take them out just adds more of a silly playfulness to it, and they are really imaginative with it, too. The other thing they have which I think is only on the Wii U version which I played is having levels where you take control of Murfy, a new wee flying fella with a big underbite. They are controlled solely using the touchscreen of the Gamepad and you basically interact with the environments with it. Like you move platforms around so an AI controlled Goblox will navigate the level. Early on they're not great but they do build into something a lot more interesting, and again, there is some real creative stuff going on with this different way of playing. Though some of the final levels have it fall apart slightly where Goblox will just do dumb things and get himself killed when you do the right things... it's like the levels get a bit too complex for the AI to handle. But over all, it's amazing. Maybe the lows are lower than Rayman Origins but I think the highs are much higher than in that. It still manages to be surprising despite being a strict follow-up and it is just one of those games where you can tell everyone working on it loved working on it; you can tell, it just pours out of the screen.
  14. Whut no Rocksteady? Burn it. Its ok, its good, honest. And it doesnt feel like there's been much change. Infact, so far it feels exactly like Arkham City, just earlier in time. Its been a while since I played that so forgive me if I havent picked up on some mind bending change but it seems the WB Montreal have done their homework. It feels the same, looks the same (Batman seems beefier though) and you have the same stuff to do. He fights the same, walks the same, has the same move set (so far). Voice sound the same even though its a different voice actor (same guy that did Ezio from Ass Creed and does Sonic's voice). Ive only played an hour but I can pretty much say that if you enjoyed Arkham City I can see no reason why you wont enjoy this. Its the same. So far.

    Sonic Lost World

I'm just going to cut to the chase: this is terrible. Admittedly i've not even done the first world yet but at this moment in time I really dont want to. It starts off ok, a blatent copy of Mario Galaxy but feeling more like Ilo Milo without any puzzles. Nice crisp graphics. Controls are ok. Sonic, like Mario but with less of an excuse, doesn't accelerate as quick as I would like but my immediate problem lies in the homing attack. It doesnt always home in. Instead Sonic bounces and then looses all his acceleration. Anyway, after a terrible cut scene introducing some new badly designed enemies, the next level starts which was just a simplified version of all side scrolling Sonic levels. At the end I fought a boss, Zazz, which I didnt enjoy much. If you lock on and attack for some reason it hits but does no damage. What you have to do it time your air attack so you bounce just in front of him and hit the front of his face. You have to do this for a while. Next level was back to Mario Galaxy, then another piss poor cut scene, then another Mario Galaxy level that becomes a side scroller half way through. Then I had to fight Zazz again. There is a little chase that takes about a minute to get through, then you fight him. Again. He carries this massive yellow ball with a face on it, he chucks it at you 3 times, twice it bounces, once it rolls, repeat. My problem was hitting Zazz. Again. I kept homing him which hits him without damage, you just sort of bounce off. So i was trying to bounce in front of his face like last time but he's standing still this time round: last time he was running at you which made it easier to time as he pretty much ran in to you. This time it just seemed pot luck. I was hitting him sometimes but not really understanding why. Anyway, i died loads. What i havent mentioned is that I used all my lives up and had to continue TWICE before I even got to this boss encounter. Once you get to him and you inevitably die because he's really hard to hit you have to repeat that minute long chase sequence before you get to fight him and his stupid ball again. So I did that five times, repeating that shitty chase sequence and then dying because I coudnt hit Zazz. On the fifth and final time, on the chase sequence I died by trying to homing attack a pinball thing ( you know, red and blue thing with a yellow star) that makes Sonic ping through the air at speed but it didnt home in, it missed, so instead i just plummeted to my death down the gap next to it. Then I turned it off. I dont know why I bother. I honestly had no fun what so ever in the 30 minutes or so I played. Sonic game for sale, only used once. Anybody?
  16. I had to google the title, I've been playing this quite a bit, honest. Not single player mind. Bought for spies vs mercs mode. On some of the previous games this mode has been brilliant, really different take on multiplayer. This version I'm not convinced by, not that it's bad. The setup is a bit different to previous games, there's 5v5 teams for a start, well it's definitely more than in the past. And when you start a hack you have to stay within a zone till the hack ends, the zones are quite big, the other spies have to then help protect the hacker for the duration, if the person who started the hack dies you have to hack it again quick or all progress is lost. And only one point out of 3 can be hacked at the same time. There's a lot less places to hide as a spy, but spies now have guns and are capable of cloaking and punching/killing mercs from the front, which seems to turn it into a more of a deathmach than previous games. But really I haven't played it enough to fully comment, you really need to know the maps inside out to play this mode and I haven't learnt any of them yet. There is also a classic 2v2 mode too, so maybe that's better. Also played some coop which is good fun. And amazingly buggy for me, a missing clif face that I was climbing along, people walking in mid air, staying stood up when dead, objectives/actions not registering etc. and the person I was playing with could see none of this.

    The Wonderful 101

Ive been playing this for about an hour and honestly I havent got a fucking clue whats going on. I've managed to bumble my way through the game so far but its just been a load if crazy shit chucked at me that I think I'm doing right. There's huge potential here for a great game, I mean it feels like a super action fighting version of Pikmin for fucks sake but it was all a bit chaotic to really properly enjoy. It starts off easy enough, running, jumping, basic fighting, combining with other wonderful souls (as the game calls them), hand holdy shit that you expect from a prologue. Then the first level proper starts and it feels like Ive missed something. And the prompts were telling me to do things and calling moves by names that I'd remembered reading but couldn't remember how to do. So you run around as a small army, defeating enemies and rescuing citizens by forming a circle of heroes around them, then the rescued citizens become temporary heroes and join your hive of soldiers. The you just run around trying to kick 7 shades of shit out of everything and being hit by super fast enemy attacks that seem to always hit you and scatter your army. They lay on the floor dazed untill you run over them (Pikmin) and then you'll attack an enemy untill you get hit again. You then resue more citizens and get more heroes to fight with. I fought this tank with a shield in front of it. It hit me a fuck ton with its super fast energy cannon balls and it managed to jump on me quite a lot. I killed it, it took some time but about 2 minutes later you have to fight another one but this time there are a few enemies on the screen too. So this time it took even longer than the first because the play area was a little restrictive. I killed the cunt nonetheless but then managed to walk in to some fire and apparently I was so low on energy I died. The game asked me if I wanted to continue but I said no, Think I need to walk away and start again later with a fresh head. Spatular?
  18. So we know about this yah? .So its basically a hardcore old school platformer that fucks you the better you get at it. I'm currently on level 121. This is a video of level 329 (penultimate level). You can spend the cyrstals you pick up in game on stuff, one such stuff is a video of the AI doing the level. On the websites I look at, only one person has beaten that. That dude bought the video for the last level: Fucksticks.

    Pikmin 3

This games all about being awesome. If you want to be awesome, play this. Its pretty hand holdy to begin with as you'd expect from Nintendo. Story wise, does it matter? Ship crashes, 3 different crash site for three different main characters, shut the fuck up cos I want to play. First dude (Charlie) you get to control gets you used to commanding pikmin around, second dude (Alph) gets you to building stuff and creating new pikmin. Ive met up with the third, this is a chick called Brittany, she showed me that with two main characters on screen we can split in to teams and multi task. I already met up with two types of pikmin, red and rock, rock pikmin being super awesome and tough, so i can split in to multiple teams with multiple pikmin? This is gonna hurt my poor brain. Looks effin gawjus, cant wait to playa new Zelda game like this. Wii pad is lovely, sticks are just right, movement is super smooth and the buttons arent at all confusing so far. Also have an instant affinity for my pikmin chums, the lovable buggers. Just finished Day 2, have to stop for a little bit now but hoping to wank some time in over the weekend. Loving my Wii U.
  20. Is this an indie? I think it could be so it gets an 'indie' sticker. But the game! It's pretty good! I say pretty good but what I mean is it's text book good. It doesn't do anything wrong and it uses the 'Metroidvania' template pretty well and has some interesting uses of its mechanics (I'm getting sick of using that word but I don't want to get specific as they get kinda surprising). What I will say is that there is a flip dimensions ability that mixes things up, but only in the same way as Outland does. Remember that game? Guacamelee! is a lot like Outland in some ways so if you liked that you'll like this. But I suppose the combat is better in this. You're a Mexican Wrestler so flinging folks about is important and you do have a big repertoire of combos and moves to do that are fun to pull off and hurt things a lot. You also have a bunch of fun internet jokes to laugh at about cats and stuff in the game, you know, all that referential stuff we enjoy. Like you climb a big mountain and near the top you find the the dead body of the thing from Journey and you go 'hahaha! I know that reference! Choozo Staues! hahaha!' It's so funny, it's like those guys who make the Scary Movie films and stuff made it. In summery: a pretty well made game that is fun but with with shite, incestuous nerd comedy. Play Outland instead.
  21. I'm probably not going to give this game the credit it deserves in the first impressions, mainly because the thing is so vast, it's easily one of the biggest most complicated games on the market. Easily. The game starts out with a tidal wave that fucks over a tribe that you'll be hunting for. You get told to talk to everyone about the village which gives you the ins and outs of what everyones job is. That's the most uncomplicated thing you'll ever do in this game. You learn that some big fuck off monster is angry for whatever reason and is sinking the fishing boats and causing earthquakes and tidal waves. You are then tasked with sorting out the villages problem by killing this monster. As a rookie the chieftain realises he can't just send you to fight this monster so you must work up to taking on the monster thats making their lives miserable. This path means you're going to have to kill everything on the island. The village makes you report anything you've killed and gives you resources in exchange, some of which can be used to fashion or bolster equipment while other parts are just used to sell to various vendors, as far as I can gather. Credits earned go into purchasing stuff to help you out in the field, or at least some of them do. That's it for story related stuff Out in the field is a missmash of game styles. The combat feels similar to the Souls series. You have stamina management to take into account, and fighting the monsters requires you to learn how to beat each monster. From what I can gather each enemy has ways of telling you what they are about to do before you do it, so if you keep getting flattened it's sort of your own fault for not noticing that that particular attack is going to take you down. The fighting feels very purposeful, you have to see when you have an open spot and commit, if you get it wrong you're going to be thrown across the floor and have your health chewed up. There's different ways of playing with different weapons. Some require you to poke away but make it hard to evade and run about, while dual wielding doubles your damage output but leaves you unable to black. There's also a big fucking cannon that I think is a sword that can utilise various ammos and a set of bagpipes on a stick to beat on the local fauna. I'm not shitting you. Bagpipes! The other game that it reminds me a lot of is World of Warcraft. Anyone that spent life mining or collecting herbs will be right at home here, there's nodes all over the place for you to harvest which will fill up your inventory. Corpses of slain monsters can be carved up to give you loot ranging from food stuffs, vendor trash and reagents for creating things. Creating things. You'll be doing a fucking lot of this. Put simply, you cannot buy potions or anything like that. Those things you collect in the wild? The herbs and the mushrooms? That's your alchemy set for healing yourself. The meat you find can be cooked to refill your stamina by cooking in the field. The stamina and health you have varies on the quality of stuff you consume from what I can gather, so eating a burnt steak can actually hinder you. In fact, the amount of combining you'll do in this game is comparable to most professions in MMO's. The best thing about it it once you've done it once you can just go and select the finished item from the combo list if you want to make potions or whatever, so it's never really a chore. There's also a farm that can grow items for you, although I've not delved into that much I'm betting it becomes something you seriously rely on when it comes down to getting further into the game. There's an area in the game that you can go play in which is detached from the village that has an arena and allows you to play with others and stuff. I actually fought my first thing in there. This is my first criticism of the game. The signposting is terrible. I shouldn't have been guided to the arena until I went out to kill the herbivores you are meant to kill. Again, this reminds me of Dark Souls in the fact that it's just letting you go anywhere you want whether it is the right way or the wrong way. Apart from that I see no problems with it. In fact it's sort of sublime. The graphics on 3DS look lovely, the animations on everything looks amazing and the music adds to that weird view Japan has of recreating the medieval style. The no online on 3DS is a bummer but I can cope with it. There's probably bits I've missed, but really, this game is massive. If you'd played it you would agree.

    Little Inferno

Made by the team that did World of Goo and the guy who was behind Henry Hatsworth. You can tell the World of Goo thing by the art style and sense of humour, a mile off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04GSCt2Wiqo It's a little bizarre. It's a sandbox game with no fail state but there is a running narrative and story. You order objects which you place in your fireplace and then set them on fire. Build combos by combing certain objects together and you'll start unlocking more lists of stuff to buy. All in-game money, no IAP's as far as I'm aware. It's oddly compelling but there isn't much point to it. From Wired:
  23. i rented this to play some coop, not really an aliens fan, it's not great. anyway, had some bugs - first of all i had no main gun, the guy has his hands out like hes holding a gun but there's nothing there, so i had to use the shotgun and pistol only, rebooting the xbox didn't even fix that. another point my friend fell through the scenery in the game. we had trouble on a few sections with the difficulty despite being on the easiest mode, but it does look like the coop is supposed to be for 4 people.

    The Cave

Been playing this for a bit. Playing using the same 3 characters as the Giant Bomb video - the knight, twins and monk. I'm not sure as the usefulness of the twins as yet but the knight's shield is good and the monk's telekinesis seems invaluable. I'm not convinced with the control feel - it just feels a bit sticky, a bit too heavy. It looks fantastic and it's Ron Gilbert and Double Fine so the writing is top notch. The trial is pretty short, then I unlocked the full game and got some kind of almost game-breaking bug where the camera wouldn't follow my character but I also couldn't change my character. I'm not sure how I got out of it but I ended up saving and quitting a few times. I'm currently stuck on a puzzle that is most likely staring me in the face but I have a minecart to deliver and no sign of what should go in it.
  25. I remember the glory days of playing Tekken 3 on the PS1, and the not so glory days of playing Tekken 4 and the first tag tournament on PS2, the latter two were average at best so I lost enthusiasm to try 5 or 6 moving instead to soul calibour and Mortal Kombat, however seeing the new tag tournament in the shops brought back memories and I decided to give it another go. I'm very glad I did! It arrived yesterday and I've been playing it non stop since. The first thing I noticed was the sense of real power, the sound vibration and graphics all combined perfectly to convey a sense of power from the characters I haven't felt with other beat 'em ups. There's also a massive list of characters to choose from, mastering them all would take all year. The game is a lot more balanced then previous installments as well, Eddie is no longer a button bash your way to glory character, yes you can button bash him but you wont get too far, the game actually rewards good fighting and learning the characters so you don't get the annoying old scenario where you spend weeks mastering Hwoarang and then some little git comes along and button bashes Eddie, beating you in no time flat. To balance things out further it now also uses a true skill system, you go up belts, from Kyu to Dans which works well for online multiplayer, the true skill means you battle people around your level, however offline it's a bit pointless to start with as until you get into the higher Dans the levels are all about the same, pretty easy. The achievements for the game are also really simple, I got 20/50 in the first couple hours of play without even trying, none of them are hard to get. Arcade mode is so easy no matter what belts you're fighting, you just seem to stroll through until the final stage which is a bit rubbish but the other modes make up for it. Speaking of other modes, it has a fight academy to teach bad players how to get better, but it really just shows the basics unfortunately, it uses combot to teach movement, blocking, simple limb movement, punishers, throw breaks and tag dynamics, the special moves for each character and combos you have to teach yourself in practice mode. It also has a customise section where you can buy and change clothing and items, a bit like soul calibour but without the abilities side of it, and you can equip random and silly things if you want. No story to the game though which is probably it's biggest let down but that's ok because it's just fantastic arcade fun! It's hard to describe just what's so great about this game but the gameplay really is a lot of fun. Overall then it's too easy to begin with and lacks a story mode but that doesn't matter because this game is incredible fun, more fun then I've had from a game in ages and I'd highly recommend it to everyone. 8.5/10 So, I thought I'd start a thread so people could arrange matches and talk about the setups they're using. I'm a Jin player myself, I did start off teaming him up with Eddie but I've switched that to Nina now because they both like each other so they give each other +1 Netsu activation and can do combination tag throws. Item wise I've given Nina a handgun so if I'm in a stand-off position with neither one of us advancing I can just tag and shoot them. I'm currently hammering practise mode to learn Jins 10 hit combo and then move on to Ninas. If anyone fancies a fight let me know!
