Not liking the areas I’ve uncovered after Godrick so far. Just loads of empty water. Lots poisonous, some not. Boring and a waste of space. Going to divert elsewhere. Anyway, regarding Ashes of Wars. I’ve got loads but scared to use any. Thing is I’m Samurai class and his default unsheathed ability is ace and don’t want to risk losing it. Does anyone know if I equip and try some ashes of wars, will I be able to re-equip the Unsheathed ability if I don’t like them?

Yep, probably. And don’t you dare buy the more expensive PS5 version if you want to transfer a old PS4 save.

Not heard much about the Dualsense implementation either on the vids I’ve watched (not seen DF). Any good? Favourite thing about the WRC games on the PS5. Almost makes up for not having a wheel.

Sweet! I’ll give RE2 remake another go then. Good excuse to play the amazing VII again too.

I prefer Godricks first phase, find that fun, but when he starts spitting fire fuck him. He has attacks which are punishable for sure but mostly he just spits fire everywhere with nowhere for me to go quickly enough. Much prefer Marge overall. Also just want to mention performance since it came up, I’ve not actually found it that bad on SX. Especially considering how bad it’s meant to be. I’ve had a couple of sections which have slowed to a crawl but they were isolated and didn’t last long. Not happened during a fight either yet. Mostly it feels solid. The load times though… wow. First time I’ve noticed them in a intrusive way on the SX. Which is stupid. If a game like Horizon 5 can load near instantly this should easily be able to do it. They’re not actually long, compared to previous gen but they’re noticeable and I’ve not been able to say that about any other game I’ve played on it. I think it’s a From problem not a Hardware one. Just like the frame rate could be better if they didn’t strive for 4k still in performance mode, some silly decision has been made somewhere. Always been a bit technically ropey their games IMO. Least I don’t have to worry about my save data though.

Take it in the only one who’s slightly disappointed in the graphics then? The tracks have a weird “flat” look to them IMO. There seems to be very little detail in them, the tarmac for example just doesn’t have much texture to it and the roadside detail seems lacking. In photo mode the cars look incredible but during races they look worse than most Horizon 5 ones IMO. The chase cam makes it look ridiculous too, the cars pivot rather than turn. Look like toys. In car view looks fine though thank fuck. I’m definitely still getting it, gameplay wise I doubt I’ll have little to grumble about. Fast loads in racing games make a huge difference too. But I don’t know if it’s the shit YouTube videos or what but graphically I’m really disappointed so far especially since it’s meant to be one of those games that really shows off. Hopefully it’s better when natively running on my Tv, finding that a lot lately with games I see on YT looking a bit disappointing but when I actually play them they look loads better

I’ve just beat Godrick too. What a bellend. Seems specifically designed to punish melee only builds like mine. First phase is a push over but during his second, what a cunt. The range he has and the AOE’s are ridiculous. Took the longest amount of time just trying to edge regular attacks out of him which I could parry or dodge so I could get a swipe or 2 in more than anything. Tedious, but done.

Turns out this is a good podcast game. Played it last night but shoved some videos on in background in my iPad and just wandered about. Enjoyed it a lot more than when I’m fully focused on it.

Put a few more hours in. Reached Godrick and his 2nd phase is just too much. So decided to do a bit more exploring, “unlocked” 3 more areas. Went far south and beat another achievement worthy boss on a island in a lake. That was really fun, great design to that one. Now travelling west. Enjoying it more but still not sure. Put about 10 hours in as well but feel like I’ve not really accomplished anything yet and I’ve still yet to get any items or abilities that have made a difference. Some people see that as a good thing but it’s feeling like a waste of time to me. In Sekiro, or any other Souls for that matter I’d have done and seen fucking loads by the 10 hour mark. Feel compelled to keep going though for some reason so it must be doing something right.

I’ve got a bow but keep getting bolts. Frustrating. I don’t like using the bow anyway so guess it doesn’t really matter.

100% 👍

Sekiro 1000%. It’s the pinnacle and all others are in its shadow. The other Souls games can do one. Talking of just FromSoft games, Ninja Blade is one I adored. It’s a God of War style rip off & its ridiculous. I loved it even though technically it’s not amazing. As for ones inspired by Souls games. I love Darksiders 3, Blasphemous and Jedi Fallen Order is great but quite different yet has enough of the Souls DNA to count IMO. Souls like games are usually better than actual Souls games for me.

Made a start last night, beat the first major boss and progressing through the castle. Yea… I’m not feeling it. The open world so far has added nothing. All it means is that I can waste time running in the wrong direction in a empty space for a significant amount of time just to get my arse handed to me by enemies that I’m way too underlevelled for without warning. Or beat a boss which gives me a weapon or magic thing that is completely useless for my character. What a waste of time. All reviews and podcasts are saying it’s a new way of doing open worlds again. How? Im still running around empty fields, collecting plants (nobody told me this type of fucking looting was in it 😡) and going into copy and pasted caves. The usual open world busy work crap. There’s just not a ton of icons that’s all. & I die more often making it more frustrating to explore. However I can run forever when not in combat so it’s already better than BotW. The fast travel system is good too. I have enjoyed all the bosses I’ve come across so far too. Some great boss design going on. I love how acrobatic a lot are in a flashy Sekiro way. But talking of Sekiro, the combat is just nowhere near as good & that along with the open world are my sticking points. I just don’t enjoy the combat as much in these souls style ones. Its just slow and nowhere near as satisfying. I much prefered the setting of Sekiro too. Although this is a very beautiful world where some vistas have wowed me even though the graphics are a bit shit. But I’m just not as interested in it. Anyone made any real progress yet? Does anything change as you progress or should I just stop & accept it’s not for me?

10/10… The load times on SX are surprisingly long. It’s not terrible by any means, still 5-10 seconds but I’m already used to not having to wait more than a couple of seconds for loading anymore, hope this doesn’t become more frequent.
-
Cunts, agreed. I’ll pay it though. Unless they’re Nintendo like in delivery and choice. Oh and if I can afford electric to run PS5 by then.

Wretch it is then. Samurai looks cool and Sekiro-y. That’ll do.

My brain is broken. No matter which I pick it’ll be wrong. Even if it’s right. Because I’ll always be thinking “should I have picked X class instead?”. But thanks for the vid. It’ll help!
-
Reading into it, PS4 version running on PS5 seems to be the only way of getting a solid 60fps. Bit shit. Edit - Argh! Just seen there’s 10 classes?! Which one do I pick? This is one of those things I hated about Demons Souls. I always feel like I’ve picked the wrong class (that magic class was absolutely the wrong one for me BTW). Sekiro has it right, just one option, have at it.

Not the whole conversation but it repeats a lot still. Only going off what I’ve heard.
-
Early talk isn’t great for Series X either. Sounding like it’s running on average 10fps lower than PS5. Only seen that from comments and not actual sites like DF & don’t know if it’s before the day 1 patch but worrying for me. Nothing I can do it it now though, mines been despatched and I’m not fucking about returning it. Edit - just realised DF video is up now. Sounds like the SX version isn’t actually that much worse so should be ok.

Haven’t a lot of criticisms been the opposite? As in it expects you to have a lot of knowledge of the previous game without a good recap. Heard many podcasts recommending YouTube video recaps because the game doesn’t do a good job of it. The big criticism I’ve heard similar to what you’re saying is how she constantly recaps everything which is going on at that moment in time. Not the previous game. As in literally repeating cut scene dialogue just after the cut scene ends. Whereas it’s be more useful if she did it just after a break - turning it off and loading a save. Or talking about climbing a cliff 4 times in 1 go. Anyway, just listened to Nextlander do a bit of a spoiler talk. I’m 1000% more interested after hearing where the story goes. It’s crazy & I want to see it!

Gave it a go. The story mode is included, seems like the full game to me. Shame it’s BORING AS FUCK!! I appreciate what they’re trying to do, but God Damn it sucks shit. Really don’t like the handling model either. It’s not sim, but it’s not arcade and it’s not that great middle ground either like a PGR, Dirt, Driveclub etc. Do yourself a favour and turn down the speed camera effect too, that weird, horrible lurching it does when changing gear or letting off the accelerator goes then. It’s not exactly a looker either. Thumb down from me.
