Epic/Awesome Sorry to not use one word

Well ive already seen it once and am seeing it again after my little girl's swimming lesson so spoil away as far as im concerned but its just one of those films where even reactions can give a slight hint as to what happens.

Can we all agree not to discuss it until at least Sunday/Monday just in case, the spoiler potential with this one is fucking high.

Saw it at midnight, seeing it again at 430 today. Its great fun, so much happening and it definitely needs a few watches.

It is Zero risk because he is Cliffy B and he knows some fuckers will fund it, as they are doing. If you or I or the various companies that are doing it did the same thing then yes there is risk, but in his case there wont be, it will make money because people will pay for anything like this and will see it as a jaunty kickstarter type approach.

Okay well I meant they arent entitled to make a living full stop. The games industry, as with any software based industry is always always a risk to work in, you can be up one moment and then down the next, and to make a business in that industry you need to come to terms with the reality that you might not make it. Games are high cost and generally speaking bespoke products, you can re-use the engine and some assets in a sequel etc, and you can buy an engine and assets too but if you do then you are risking people saying its a knock off. The risks are well understood within the industry and so for Cliffy B to make a move like this is probably whats garnered the instant dislike. That and because people just dont like things any more, they hate things.

I would question your logic of it not being greedy because they have to keep afloat. They arent entitled to make a living from games, and thats the point that if any I object to. Lawbreakers seemed like a good game but didnt do well, not sure really what the exact reason was but there are a few I guess that it could be, Cliffy B factor, over saturation of the market, it tried to take on Overwatch when it was already well established dont know. Its basically the guy in Monopoly that is about to go broke, but if you just sell him all your blues and greens for nothing he can get back into the game and make loads of money and maybe win, and if you dont sell them to him you are being a bastard and crushing his dreams of winning. Not every game can do well and not every studio can just open up and be guaranteed of success, it seems to me that there is an air of entitlement that like 'hey we are making this game you fuckers, why arent you buying it' kind of thing. In theory its a great business model, put out a barebones offering and get some money and some customers and then they can pay you to keep making it, and they can give you your ideas to make it different enough from the other games you are competing against. Zero risk, lots of profit, thats why people dont like it.

I've nearly got my internet and stuff set up after moving house so I might be into getting into this. Is it all guns or can you make a decent job with a melee build too?

I can't disagree with the sentiment of wanting more of the smash hit games that Nintendo put out. Mario platformer, zelda game, pikmin, Mario kart, three or four other massive titles. That's why I have a switch and id like more of those kind of games, generally speaking its why I've always owned a Nintendo console. The areas of frustration for me as a Nintendo console owner down the years have always been that only Nintendo seem to be able to make those games generally, and I don't meant specifically those titles but that calibre of game. Rare used to get in on the action sometimes and there have been a few notable other 3rd parties but if you look at breath of the wild and its enormous success and acclaim, it surprises me that nobody else does that or wants a piece of the action. I suppose when you compare generally the sales of massive games on a ninty platform to those of a different platform then you can sort of see it from a money making point of view that if you were a software company with a profit margin and salaries to pay and a future to consider then you want the biggest slice of the pie you can get but I still am surprised by it and frustrated by it that things are the way they are. I do get annoyed when I see another port to be honest, its just my initial reaction because when you come to a thread thinking ooh maybe there's news of pikmin or pokemon etc and you see its a payday 2 port or Doom then it is a slight dampener, and the accumulated effect that has is a frustrating one, but if these ports mean that developers are seeing what the switch can do then great maybe it will be the planting of the seeds thats required for future generations of the Nintendo consoles to have more Zeldas and so on.

Its funny to mention this because this is exactly the appeal of many RPGs for me, learning the system and finding that shortcut / unconventional way to become super powerful. Levelling up smithing in Skyrim to get the best armour, prioritising finding the Master Sword in BotW so that I could get the edge earlier on, Grinding out overly difficult strikes in Destiny where you could chip away at the boss in order to get the best loot as soon as possible (fucking RNG).... The best game ive had for this was the absolutely excellent Divinity Original Sin 2. You start off really weak and especially on Tactician mode have to plan out every single move you play in the fights, and actually pre-fight, and then one of the best things about that game for me was to figure out firstly if it was even possible to become god-like (pun intended, you will understand if you play) and then how on earth you achieve that. After that you realise just how many builds/load outs there are avialable to you to play however you want. I cannot recommend the game highly enough and I think particularly @Sly Reflex will appreciate the mastery on display in terms of a studio knowing its game and genre and making the perfect product. Its a viable strategy to level up a skill that is usually at best a secondary skill - telepathy, useful mainly for reaching far away loot in a few scenarios - and becoming this all out killing machine just by loading up a magic chest, which has had its capacity raised beyond most other chests, with the heaviest items (other magic chests work) and then just carrying it around like its your buddy and dropping it on enemies (telepathy damage in the game scales with the weight of the object). Another viable strategy is to teleport lava around the game, as the engine lets you teleport surfaces too (there is a great mechanic in the game that utilises various combinations of surfaces/elemental types to create different effects) and the lava does immense amounts of elemental damage. These arent hacks either because you encounter enemies in the game that will utilise these mechanics against you at times.

To be fair to overwatch it did a great job of treading the minefield that is consistent content. It didn't feel like anything released was 'on the disk' and gates away, it kept things fresh with the content it put out, it didn't need constant injection of money. It has a lot that I'd like to see in other games.

Why on earth do we not know about massive games on the Switch at the moment. Does it not seem weird to anybody else that there is nothing about the next Zelda game, that surely has to be in the works after the success of BoTW, or even something that is a dead given like Pikmin 4. Have I just completely missed this sort of news or what?

Reading the impressions definitely makes me want to try it, if it's as rewarding for your time as it sounds then I'm up for it.

I watched the first episode of Ugly Delicious yesterday, its like a documentary about food. Each episode they focus on one popular food and look at how its made in different places, the history of it, they talk about authenticity and different chef's takes on that food and its kind of a travel documentary too. The first episode was about Pizza and it was cool, and its made me order pizza today nyom nyom yummy.

As a deterrent or as a treat?

Love playing video games or watching youtube in the Bath. Nice little top up of hot water every now and again, perfecto.

I think for me (I know we are talking about this in the wrong thread @admin please feel free to move this) I think its coincided with a resurgence of PC gaming, and that basically has opened me up to a new group of my friends that always played on PC, and a huge offering of games that I just didnt play on the PC. Its also got that thing of not taking up the main TV like the Switch has. Its not like I dont like the Switch, exactly as @regemond said I love it and think its a great concept, I just totally randomly fell in love with PC gaming at a similar time I got the Switch.

I still have loads to do on this, played a little bit one weekend when I went to my Dads and then just didnt pick it back up again. Got Mario kart to dig through too, for some reason my Switch just isnt appealing to me.
