  1. Cheeky fuckers, I've a bad history with Blockbuster. Nevermind, thanks!
  2. No Radiant Historia was developed and published by Atlus, released in 2011.
  3. I haven't watched the video yet but on this subject...I've been watching the Japanese anime Nodame Cantabile where the male character Chiaki frequently gives a haymaker to the main girl in the show, to be honest it's hilarious. Although I think sexism in Japanese culture would probably be enough to send her into meltdown.
  4. I don't want to be too harsh on GTA IV because I only played it once, in 2008, when San Andreas was relatively fresh in the memory and not the ancient relic it is now. And it does have a sunshine period, for the first 15 hours or so I wouldn't have had any reason to argue with the critics, I thought it was brilliant. Those early moments with Roman are a great opening to the game. But then it unravels, or I suppose, to put it better, the magic wears off. Most of the complaints have already been mentioned - the switch to a more realistic style which was a really a giant step backwards for the series (although laughably hailed as some kind of maturation by the press), the repetitive missions, the irritation of being harassed by peripheral characters in the game, the ridiculousness of Kate's death being supposed to mean anything to the player. I suppose what sunk the game really was Niko's lack of any kind of development ("I need the money") and the fact that the story was really forgettable from the second island on. My memory of it: 8/10.
  5. I must play this. In fact I think I've neglected my NDS backlog for far too long so I'm going to have to make that a priority after my exams. Btw if you're interested in an rpg that's a bit different then I recommend Radiant Historia if you haven't played it.

Plus it's free! I own Analogue: A Hate Story so I'll give that a go. Her next game Hate Plus is out later this year.
  10. Ah, now I don't feel so stupid. Yep definitely after my exams! Le sigh...

  12. Anyone want a copy of Frozen Synapse? I just bought it and now I see I already had a gift of it in my inventory... Stupid steam with it's not very visible notifications.
  13. Half-Life 2 is weird. My main memory is the hyper-realistic graphical style, especially outside (like in the speedboat section). The game is a bit of a rollercoaster - not that it relies on explosive set pieces but just that it moves between periods of downtime and then a lot of action like people have said. There's a fair amount of variety when you consider the long vehicle-based sections. I suppose the moments that stick out for me are the Ravenholm level and then the huge war going on at the end with the giant creatures in the city. I suppose the problem is that there's not much character to it (and when you think about it you could level the same complaint at GTA IV). I'm not going to argue whether the mechanics of one shooter are better than the other (I probably wouldn't even know) but when you take something like Bioshock which clearly has a personality and a strong artistic leaning, that type of game just makes so much more of an impression on me.

  15. I've seen that, I agree with you. Nice film. He also made The Place Promised in Our Early Days which is really good. I need to watch his two recent films, Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below and Garden of Words. Also I still haven't seen Voices of a Distant Star. I've made a list of all the anime shows I want to watch: Beck Crest of the Stars Death Note Eden of the East FLCL Fullmetal Alchemist Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Future Boy Conan Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Haibane Renmei Honey and Clover Kino's Journey Legend of the Galactic Heroes Maison Ikkoku The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Monster Nana Natsume's Book of Friends Neon Genesis Evangelion Now and Then, Here and There Outlaw Star Paranoia Agent Steins;Gate The Tatami Galaxy Texhnolyze Time of Eve Trigun The Rose of Versailles The Vision of Escaflowne That should last me a lifetime!
  16. Coming to PC: http://ie.ign.com/articles/2013/07/30/guacamelee-gold-edition-is-coming-to-steam
  17. All I got from that was that you apply your cock to everything?
  18. Blockbuster I can't buy from Blockbuster for some reason. If someone would like to buy me a copy I'll refund you on paypal. Also, same price for Resident Evil 6 and Dishonored.
  19. Picked up my first card, "Elbow Pads" from Retro City Rampage. Worth fuck all so I might as well hold on to it.
  20. Housekeeping: You should add Satellite Reign which got funded for £461,333 and seems to be a reboot of Bullfrog's Syndicate Wars. Leisure Suit Larry and Shadowrun Returns have now both been released. There's a thread for Shadowrun Returns in the games section (same for Kentucky Route Zero) so I guess you should link those. Leisure Suit Larry maybe just delete it and forget about it, it's gotten terrible reviews.
  21. Yeah I've caught up on a lot of Ghiblis through their seasons, although it's a shame they insist on showing certain movies dubbed. I guess they only have one copy of a film in their system (however it works) and that's the one they keep showing over and over. Still, My Neighbours the Yamadas is on in Japanese so I'll be watching that. In fairness MAL is pretty good for recommendations, you should join Ben if you haven't. It has lists for the most popular and highest ranked manga and anime, and there are recommendations on the home page as well as each individual movie/anime page. So you come across a lot of stuff. As far as what's hot at the moment well I think the most popular show is Attack on Titan, which you can actually watch here: http://www.crunchyroll.com/attack-on-titan I haven't watched it yet though. I'm up to episode 8 in Cowboy Bebop and ep 5 in Nodame Cantabile.
  22. I just realised that we don't even need a dedicated backlog thread since there's already the Game Ledger thread, I'm just gonna keep up my retro ramblings there. So we can close the lid on this then? Who am I kidding I've written the last seven posts in here! "Though I never knew you at all, you had the grace to hold yourself..."
  23. So if everyone is in favour of continuing this thread, what will be our game for August? I guess the obvious choice is Monaco but I have exams this month and I want to join in when we do that so... How about Don't Starve?
  24. Updated my post on the first page. Currently playing Gemini Rue which I abandoned many moons ago because I couldn't get past the start. No such problems this time around. Seems like an interesting game, although the graphics are ugly as hell.
